There's a lot of popular characters. Kain, Sabin, Sephiroth, etc.
There's a lot of unpopular characters. Edward, Strago, etc. Did you ever like someone that was considered unpopular or hate someone popular? I hate Sephiroth, he really didn't get me riled up for a second as a villian. Shin-ra was far more aggravating. I really like Edward. He really rocked, he was a weakling who fought with all he could, despite being a wuss. But he proves you don't have to be strong to fight baddies. -------------------- Really Random Quote of the Day: "Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war." - Richard M. I happen to like Gau, whom as I've seen is not very popular. His magic attacks were powerful and if you actually took the time to build up his Rages (and know how to use them effectively) Gau was one tough customer. I liked Gau so much that he was in my final party against Kefka.
Somone I didn't like that's considered "popular" is Locke. Sorry, I just don't see any use for him. His attacks are poor. Capture is a little more helpful than just Steal, but still not that much. And his storyline was typical lead male role. Bo-ring. -------------------- "When I turn the page The corner bends into the perfect dog ear As if the words knew I'd need them again But at the time, I didn't see it." ~"This Ain't a Surfin' Movie" - Minus the Bear |

Well, I liked Relm Strago, and Edward. Relm and Edward had uniqe abilities, and Strago was powerful. Â Also, Strago added the fun factor of going out and getting ALL of his lores (which I did) all in all,, I liked the strange/wierd/unliked characters, usually because they were unusual and challenging to play with.....and fun!

Gau! I heart Gau. He's one of my favorite characters in the game because he's powerful and he's a fun guy to have in the story. I especially like the first scene where he's dancing around with Sabin and Cyan and just generally goofing off. It's really great.
I always get really tired of Edgar in the game. His personality grates on me after awhile, and in battle he just seems kind of cheap (even though I use the Genji Glove-Offering combo on Sabin way too much). I think there are a lot of characters that are more fun to have around, so I've tended to skip around Edgar in games of late. -------------------- Hey, put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing? Popular character I really don't care for: Sabin (ffvi), Edge (ffiv), Sephiroth (ffvii), just about anyone from ffviii.

I liked Edward (FFIV) because
His Medicinal ability gives him a second job title (Now everyone has one! No...two!) Saves you when you're at your weakest! Highest growth at Lv. 70+, 4+ on certain stats (See Maximum Statistics Guide at gamefaqs.com) Tormented Hero personna I liked Strago (FFVI) because his cure rod saved me at the Floating Continent. I hated Edgar and Setzer, because the two of them are just a coupla little punks -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

I must be the only female on Earth who doesn't like Sephiroth. So he's got a big sword. So he poses dramatically. So he walks around with no shirt on. Big whoopee. One day his hair will catch on fire. Let's see him pull off Cold and Heartless then.
I also hate chocobos. Square likes them an awful lot. Fans like them an awful lot. Why?! Why?! As for normally unpopular characters... I like Cyan, who seems to be not so much disliked as ignored. And sure, I like Gau. I had no idea he was UNpopular... -------------------- "Turd-cookies!...they're hot and soft, though..." In terms of unpopular characters that I sort of like, I've always wondered why people hate Yuffie so much. Sure, she steals your stuff if you answer the questions wrong, and she's a little hyperactive, but nowhere near annoying enough to warrant all the derision, at least in my opinion. She wasn't my favorite character, but she was far from my least favorite. (Aeris gets that dubious honor in spades, of course.)
For popular characters that I dislike, I must say that I just don't like Locke. He's not really all that annoying, and at times he can be genuinely funny or inspiring, but he just rubs me the wrong way in the end. It's not that I can't stand him (at least, most of the time), it's just I think he's really, really overrated. Not very useful in battle, either, as his only strong point was the ability to equip the Atma Weapon and attack from the back row with the Wing Edge, since Steal is comparatively useless and his stats aren't great by any standard. Another popular character that I dislike is Aeris. She's just annoying to me, not to mention pitiably weak in combat, as her attacking potential was nil and her limits only partly useful. Her personality just wasn't appealing to me, and I often wonder why people like her so much. (I'm a staunch Tifa advocate.) Finally, I have a problem with Sephiroth. He's a fantastic character, to be sure, not to mention super-cool. But as a villain in all traditional sense, he fails miserably. When it comes right down to it, I couldn't hate him at all. His desire to annihilate life seemed less out of misanthropy than being misunderstood, and at times I actually found myself rooting for him. In my opinion, a great villain is one who you can really despise, and I felt nothing of the sort against old Sephy. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. My favorite FF6 characters are the basically the reverse of the traditional popular characters with few exceptions. I hardly ever use Terra or Celes, I HATE Locke to the extreme, and ignore Edgar. My favorite mage by far is Strago, and I use him just about every game. I mean come on, he has a whole extra spellbook, and he's a descendent of the legendary mage warriors. He is all-powerful, in my opinion, and he beats out Terra and Celes any day with spells like Pearl Wind, Quasar, and Clean Sweep since I don't use Ultima. I also actually like Umaro. I didn't at first, but the big brute grew on me! Same way for Gau. It's fun casting many of the same spells casters use but for free, with the rages. It's also rewarding to see how many rages you can get for Gau. The 13-year-old not only holds some of the better spells in the magical arsenal, but is a force to be reckoned with in terms of defense capabilities (i.e. snow muffler). His versatility ROCKS! I liked Gogo somewhat as well. One time, as a sort of challenge to myself, I attacked Kefka's Tower in the end with what I call the "uncontrollable party". I had Mog dancing, Gau Raging, Umaro throwin himself and others at Kefka, and Gogo mimicking (of course, I did it all after he cast Fallen Angel). With the prowess of the Snow Mufflers on three of the members, THAT was fun!
The only trends I seem to follow are that I like Sabin, Mog, and Shadow, and hate Relm. |

Okay SM, ya don't like him cause ya like him...hmm. Don't worry, I'll figure that out eventually.
![]() Okay, Gau right off. I love that kid and his hyperactive personality. I think he had incredible untapped potential as both a character in the story and gamplay. It's such a pity Square didn't make more use of him or at least develop his rage system a lil better. And Sephiroth I didn't like. White hair, long ass sword, brooding demeanor, slightly effeminate posture(sp?)...is there any anime villian cliche this guy doesn't use? I found everything people think is cool about this guy to be vaporous and manufactured. About the only possible plus I could find was his mother complex, but that is thrown to the side to make way for all that other crap. -------------------- |

I liked Relm from FFVI, and she's pretty much like Gau. You have to know how to use her well, otherwise, people don't get to see her true potential.
I don't like Locke either. I liked his personality, but he was just really useless in battle. Stealing isn't one of my biggest priorities, and his attack power isn't that great either. -------------------- "The Master of Past, Present, and Future has returned." |

i hate kefka. always have. i just dont know why people think hes so cool, he just doesnt stack up as a big bad villain in my eyes. hes like the joker in batman. i think sephiroth made a much better villain but a lot of people disagree. oh well.
as for more unpopular characters, i dont think vincent valentine ever really got the recognition he deserves. he was a cool guy and thats just the bottom line. -------------------- You watch the world exploding every single night Dancing in the sun, a newborn in the light Say goodbye to gravity and say goodbye to death Hello to eternity and live for every breath Your time will come... |

Cyan was great. People don't really tend to like him.
In FF7, everyone I know loves Red XIII. He's a great character, and a great fighter, but I never used him in battle. Don't know why. -------------------- Lou: There's a couple of guys fighting down at the aquarium, Chief. Wiggum: Do they still sell those frozen bananas? Lou: I think so. Wiggum: Let's roll. |

I think a lot of people use Red XIII after the events in Cosmo Canyon because he gets the Seraph Comb, which is an extremely powerful weapon at the time. I know he joined my party for awhile at that point, and characters that join my party for a while tend to be there for the long haul in my case. -------------------- Hey, put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing? i dunno if vincent was considered popular or not but i liked
him. I liked cait sith too. in ff9 i liked blank and cinna, i wish you couldve just had them instead of garnet, steiner, eiko, quina and amarant(sp?). I would sooo trade all 5 of them to have cinna and blank on your team. I think freya is unpopular, i like her, spear chucking from the sky. ![]() I didnt like sabin in FF6. Worst character in a final fantasy game, ever. He's a stupid King "Cat as the Hat" on a Marshmallow Moogle. I liked Zell in FF8, and I really don't have anything against Squall. Quina was cool. Boo to Kuja, just a shabby Sephiroth rip-off. -------------------- The clouds ran away, opened up the sky And one by one I watched every constellation die And there I was frozen, standing in my backyard Face to face, eye to eye, staring at the last star I should've known, walked all the way home To find that she wasn't here, I'm still all alone -Atmosphere "Always Coming Back Home to You" |

BLANK! How could I forget Blank?! He's easily my favorite minor character from any Final Fantasy. I would've traded any one of my party members to give him Trance mode and put him in my party. He's just really, really cool.

YESSS! Another Blank-liking dude! Me and my brother love that guy, and Haagen from FF9 too. (Haagen was the Pluto Knight who always went "FURY!" or "Feel my fury!!"

i can certainly agree with that, on the part of haagen. he was so damn COOL... i would trade steiner for him in an instant, i just didnt like steiner much at all. knights are usually real cool, but he wasnt. his saving grace however, is the sword magic he could do with vivi, who is also a great character and anyone who doesnt like vivi surely worships the devil. i liked blank, but not quite as much as zidane. though blank was only in the story for a short time, i dont think he could ever have as complex a past or story as zidane did. i liked cinna because he was one ugly mofo and was totally aware of it.
