Basically, when you think or draw Paladin Cecil, how do you think if his hair? You see, the menu sprite has blond hair and purple highlights, but the battle and field sprites have purple hair and blond highlights. And some webart has just blond or other colors. I think of him as with blond hair and purple highlights. It's a lot easier for me to picture that in my mind.

Purple with blond highlights. I believe the sprite more than the in menu picture. So yes, Cecil has purple hair.

I would rather look to whatever official art there is available, first, as whatever color(s) ye see in the game may be the result of sprite and/or color palette limitations. I could be wrong, but isn't that why Terra's sprite's hair is green? Judging by the official art of Cecil, I would have to go with blonde, perhaps almost white.

I think of him as having white-blond hair, as opposed to Rosa's golden-blond. As for highlights, I guess I've always imagined the pinks/purples in the illustrations reflecting some sort of an iridescent quality.

I think of Cecil having pure snow-white hair when I draw the real Cecil Paladin. When I want to draw my own type of Paladin Cecil, I always draw his dark armor on him, but I color it with gold and I have the helmet tilted a bit up to show his face (My favorite way of drawing battle-ready knights.)

When I've done fanart of Cecil, I've tried to the best of my ability to express his hair colour. I've always thought of his hair being white (or a colour close to white) with purple highlights (and maybe some blue-ish?).
Of the ones that I've done of Cecil, this one is the closest that fits my imaginings of him (at least in the hair colour department). I can't say I've ever thought of him having blond hair.... -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." "Arthur Philip Dent?" "Yes." In official Amano art, it's white.
![]() However, in my opinion (and in tandem with the menu portrait, please see left), Cecil's hair is one of the more difficult to catagorize. It's a veritable cornucopia of color! Since you see the battle sprite more, I picture him with purple. I like the menu picture better, but no matter how hard I try, I can't picture him with white.

I believe it's bleach blond, but sorta purplish-blue by way of reflections. I just envision it as being so damn shiny, and I'd like to know where he gets his shampoo...
However, given my way of coloring, it's either gonna be one or the other. Trying to do his hair correctly just irks me, mainly 'cause I find it, well, a bit difficult to get juuuust right. As a rule of thumb, I tend not to believe the field sprites (or any of the sprites, depending on the game). As stated before, Cecil, Terra, Butz and a boatload of other characters visually suffer from limited palette colors, and as luck would have it it's usually their hair that ends up the most screwed. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. How about white hair, with various tinges of other colors the result of lighting.
Not white as in "you're so aged", but white as in naturally white (think FFTA). -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I think his hair is kind of like Saruman's robe from Lord of the Rings. In the book, it describes how his robe changes color depending on which angle you look at it from. I'd go with that or Amano's interpretation of it.

i've always thought he was prematurally grey, with possibly a silverish, purple tint
but definatdely prematuraley grey i always figured it was a yin/yang kindof thing going from all black; black knight to a pally with light hair -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

Oh, yeah, and Terra's hair isn't green because of palette limitations. It's because they thought the player would get her and Celes confused. Which we would.
Besides, Terra's hair is so much cooler as green. ![]() -------------------- Some ghost of me might greet my son the day he is delivered. Eternal Sleep, Track 1-1: The Blue Planet |

Looking at the menu portrait, it seems to be whitey-blonde with purple ribbons/string in it, wrapped around some hair.

(i can't believe I'm spending so much time in the cecil hair thread)
It's perfectly possible for Cecil to have naturally-occurring white (or violet) hair in the FF4 world. Rydia's hair is green, after all. FuSoYa's has a blue tint. Uh... I thought there was another, more human character with weird-colored hair. I seem to have forgotten. -------------------- Some ghost of me might greet my son the day he is delivered. His hair is silver. I think the other colors are part of certain light reflections. Or a best attempt to display silver on a 16 bit system.

I would go with something that doesn't involve the word "highlights" as the technology to create this does not exist yet. The only thing that could be done was using Lime to make it white (which is what the Celts did), which I suppose is what Cecil did.

I always imagined it to be a very, very pale blond, and the purple was just there to show how radiant and sleek his hair was, like it was shimmering in the light. Well, not always, I'm sure if someone asked me on the street I'd say 'purple.'

Sure, you can create highlights in your hair with special kinds of hair coloring, but they're there naturally, too. Blondes with streaks of much lighter hair and brunettes with streaks of reddish hair are common. Also, even if Cecil lives in a world without natural highlights, he doesn't need any technology beyond a lemon to make streaks of his hair lighter. Lemon juice + sun exposure = highlights. Other kinds of hair coloring come from natural sources, too. Elderberry pulp makes everything very, very purple. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

i actually think of his hair being lavander with platinum/silver (whichever you prefer) highlights. The menu pic just doesnt seem to have that bold of a color.

Hmm it's really a tough call. If I had to choose I'd have to say it was white/silver with an iridescent quality to it, thus causing his hair to appear different in different pictures. Since he had become holy, I would think it'd be more logical to assume his hair turned white...or something.

I'm pretty sure you've seen his new head sprite in the GBA version. It's a golden whitish blond with know purple at all. The field and battle sprites still have purple though.
