So that's what they were singing about in that Gorillaz song. ... Right. Anyway, my name's based of the Namingway of FFIV. I came to this forum to post my fanfiction work. I love writing and I wanted a name that reflected that, but was still connected in some way with the Final Fantasy series. -------------------- |

Well...mine's pretty simple. My name is Kyle, and my favorite verb/adjective is 'rocks.'
I also go by Kyle the Bringer of Wrath (only on Starcraft) the origins of that are...mysterious...even I'm not sure... There's also Crazyolcid, that's obviously after Cid from FF4, I mean...he jumped off the airship, (which was underground), said some cool lines and blew himself up...and lived, tinkered with the airship twice afterward, then helped out in the battle against the Giant of Babil...and still went to the Tower of Wishes to pray, running around like a kid...Crazy indeed. -------------------- Really Random Quote of the Day: "Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war." - Richard M. Wow, I missed this for awhile.
My name comes from my track nickname. I was always known for having a good kick (the sprint at the end of a distance race.) My sophomore year of high school I was in the 1600 at a big invitational. I was sitting in eighth place with 200 to go, and just dropped everyone off, passing the leader to win it in the last 20 meters. My coach started calling me Gears after that, and the name stuck, so much that pretty much everyone in Evanston calls me Gears now, even people that have never seen me run. Now that one of my old high school teammates runs at UIC now, it's starting to spread here, too. -------------------- Hip-Hop QOTW: "Yeah, where I'ma start it at, look I'ma part of that Downtown Philly where it's realer than a heart attack It wasn't really that ill until the start of crack Now it's a body caught every night on the Almanac" "Game Theory" The Roots |

Doesn't relate to Steel Brightblade for all you DragonLance readers
![]() It refers more to FF4. I've combined the Dark Knight with the Paladin for sort of a "Yin-Yang" effect to describe me. Not neutral, but both. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

My name was origionally Pyro on AOL back when it was Aol 1.0. But then I forgot the password but by then there were so many people online that the closest thing was Pyro6666 but then I got my Yahoo! e-mail account and someone had taken my name there as well so then I had to go with Pyro6662 and the name stuck.

I got my name from Edgar Allen Poe's "The Telltale Heart". The EvilEye also refers to a superstitious malevolent spirit thought to constantly be cursing or hexing its victims. The only way to avoid it was supposedly to wear charms or talismans or other superstitious tokens to ward off the spirit and prevent it from doing harm. Although I picked it 'cuz I just thought it sounded neat...

i always find it cool to find out what other people's handles mean. In other words, why did you choose that handle? Since i'm new here and know absolutely none of you, i thought this would be a cool way of peering into your personalities...
anyway, my handle is acctually a nickname my dad gave me when i was a little kid, becuase i had virtually no fine motor skills (not much has changed in 17 years ![]() so i would always be breaking stuff on accident. I always though the name sounded cool so i still use it today. And 8 is my lucky number so i use it at the end of every sn/handle i own. therandyrhoads is my aol/aim screen name, and since im too lazy to make up an original handle for the CON boards, i just used that. i originally wanted to make my sn just plain "randy rhoads" but it was taken, and i didnt wanna put a bunch of numbers after it like everyone else does, so i put something in front of it instead. when i registered the screen name, i promptly sent a hateful email to the downtrodden soul who undeservedly took the screen name that was my birthright. i was only like 13 so i hope that sorta justifies things.
anyways, let me first clear up that randy rhoads is NOT my name, because a lot of people end up thinking it is. my name is gerard, i think its old german, and in my eyes, makes me a living monument to parental drunkedness when naming a child. randy rhoads was ozzy osbourne's guitar player on his first two albums after he left black sabbath (blizzard of ozz and diary of a madman). he was a classically trained guitarist, played very fluid, and had a huge influence on me in my earlier years of playing guitar. randy died on march 19th, 1982... nowadays, i gravitate little more to zakk wylde, who is coincidentally another of ozzy's guitar players, he also plays in black label society, and has a very different approach to the instrument, which fits my style a little better than randys did, even though he has had nowhere near as much influence on my playing. -------------------- You watch the world exploding every single night Dancing in the sun, a newborn in the light Say goodbye to gravity and say goodbye to death Hello to eternity and live for every breath Your time will come... |

I like my name. It has a combination of historical legend as well as games. The first word, Edge comes from my final fantasy character. I use it for about every online thing and for all games that don't give a default name. Murasame is the history part, although I know it is in about every final fantasy. The legend on the sword is about two sword smiths were competing to make the strongest sword of all. One made a sword of peace, the Masamune. The other made a sword of death, the Murasame. One day, they both they were riding on there horses and they both accidently droped there swords in a pond. A leaf started to float by the swords. It passed right along the masamune without getting a scratch. However, when it started to go buy the murasame, it was instantly cut in half.
And thats how I got my user name. -------------------- I will be the mustard of your doom! |

Here is an older thread with the same topic: A rose by any other name
As stated in that thread, Iain Peregrine is the main charecter in a book I'm writting. He's one of my favorite charecter's I've ever created, so I naturally chose his name for my internet handle. Iain was originally a remake of another charecter named John, with a bit more life experience, and that's why I chose that particular name. Iain is Scotch of John (through the Irish Sean). Peregrine is Latin for Pilgrim, or wanderer. So for me, the name speaks of experience and wisdom. To you, it's just something you don't know how to pronounce, I guess. When I take myself less seriously (playing cards, for example) I use the name "George Gnome". Don't get me wronge, I'm not George, I just admire him. ![]() |

I'll list all of my past usernames since I have nothing better to do (no job
![]() UFO2020 (Jan 98) After using the fake name "Mike" on several forums, I ran across the MSN Gaming Zone (www.zone.com) and wanted to play checkers. "Mike" of course was taken, and I wanted a cool username like everyone else. X-Com (extra-terrestrial combat) is a fantastic PC game that I was playing at the time. So I wanted to use "UFO" but the name was taken. So I tacked on the 2020 and it worked. People have commented that UFO2020 has a nice ring to it. Heh. I got involved with Descent 1 & 2 on the net for the next 3 years, and this username was great for that. Descent is a first person shooter where you fly around the insides of mines in a ship, shooting flying robots (or other players). So UFO was appropriate. I became so good at that game that I had the privilage of fighting one of the best Descent players in the world, and I lost miserably. I think I did hit him once! ![]() i90east (July 99) I live in the Chicago suburbs, and I don't travel much. Me, my parents and my brother would go on little vacations to Wisconson, Indiana, Iowa and southern Illinois. In July of 1999 I went with my grandparents, my mom and my brother to Massachusetts to see my cousins/aunt/uncle. I was 15 at the time so I had my driver's permit. As you can imagine for someone who doesn't travel much, this turned out to be the best vacation of my life. It's just one of those things where everything comes together perfectly to create a great experience. So we drove on I-90 East to get there. I-90 goes from Seattle to Boston, quite a long road. We went again in the summers of 2001 and 2002 without my grandparents and with my dad along, and unfortunately those trips just weren't as good as that first 1999 trip. The drive is still fun though, especially with my dad's CB in the car monitoring the truckers who tell where all the cops are. On July 5th last year there were no cops on the road at all that night. I was in the middle lane cruising at 80 mph for 7 hours while snacking on Rold Gold stick pretzels, drinking Coke and listening to the local AM radio stations. That was fun. Lancer (March 01) For a very brief period of time I was into FFIX, and when it came time to register an account at j-body.org I wanted a username that made reference to the game. Freya was my favorite character so that's where Lancer came from. I don't know if I really like this username or not, but it stuck. I only use this one on j-body.org. -------------------- FFXI (Siren server) Tauu the Windurstian Tarutaru! White Mage & Paladin |

I run cross country and track (although my career will soon be coming to an end with this coming track season.) I got the nickname Gears from my coach after a race my sophomore year in high school when I kicked (a kick, for the non-runners, is the sprint at the end of a distance race) down someone from 50 meters away to win the mile in a big race. He said it looked like I changed gears to catch him, the nickname stuck, and now basically everyone I know in Evanston knows me as Gears.

'Karasuman' is the name of a monster in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I always thought it was a pretty cool monster. 'Karasu' means 'crow' in Japanese--that's where the name originally comes from.
Interestingly enough, Sailor Lead Crow's Earth name is Karasuma. I only found that out a few days ago, while watching some subbed Sailorstars episodes. ![]() -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |
