This has bugged me for some time, and I'm finally going to ask. What was Terra's life before the game begins? Yes, we know that 18 years ago she was born in the Esper world, and as an infant was stolen by Emperor Gestahl. Yet, 18 years later, when the story begins, everybody's acting like she's some new thing. When I was younger, I didn't think about it really hard, and just thought, "Oh yeah, Kefka probably like kidnapped her recently and brainwashed her with the slave crown." But that's all wrong since she must have been living in the empire.
But it is true that there is a scene with Kefka putting the slave crown on her. So I don't think she has been wearing it since she was an infant or anything. Who do you think raised her? I mean, I know she was in the Empire, but like, did she think Gestahl was her dad? And Kefka/others just put the slave crown on her when they wanted to use her powers? Your thoughts would be appreciated. -------------------- Kupo! |

I'm pretty sure she was raised in Vector, maybe by the Emperor? Meh, it's been awhile. There's definitely bound to be information in those guide books for the game, if only they were translated into English...

I agree, she was probably raised in Vecotr (not by the emperor, but probably nannys or something). I doubt the Empire even knew how to use her magic for the first ten years, so it's not like she was under complete control all the time.

I like the idea of Cid raising her. He raised Celes, after all, and perhaps he also spent time with Terra, but didn't keep the two together after a certain age. Terra probably had a nanny and lived in a heavily secured house in Vector until Kefka decided she was ready.

That information is never really discussed in FF6. She is taken over with the slave crown probably less than a year when the story begins. Even when she once again remembers her past, she doesn't give out any information as to who raised her.
Also, it may be that Terra never regained her memory. Madiun tells the story of where Terra has came from, and Terra really doesn't reveal anything about her time before that. So, my theory is that she was raised in a test tube, under supervision of the empire, but whether or not Cid had anything to do with that is beyond me, as Cid and Terra never really even meet, nor does Cid recognize Terra. On top of it all, Celes and Leo don't seem to really even know who she is (Despite her being in the background in that one flashback). I'm thinking most likely its just a plot hole the developers couldn't cover, or that she had been enslaved for longer than previously suggested and raised by Kefka. The game is very loose in this subject, and no concrete evidence can really be found, but we know that she was in the empire's hands since she was a child. I find it more interesting that Madiun had to of been in those tanks for 17 years in the Magitek Factory, no wonder why they killed themselves off so quickly :x And what happened to Madonna, I wonder. -------------------- "A little tight, but the price was right" - Locke "Oh, what a Fuddy Duddy" - Relm "..." - Shadow "I'm a General, not some love starved twit" - Celes "Although Edgar showers his attention on the ladies, most are smart enough to pay him no attention. I also think (like Zeromus_X said) that Terra was raised by Gestahl since he thought that Kefka was a maniac and then Kefka got a hold of Terra somehow and brainwashed her and Gestahl never knew since Terra maybe ran away.

I coulda swore there was more information on this, though. Didn't some member from a very long time ago translate a guide book with some timeline? Although that probably doesn't have to do with this...still, there's got to be more information in those FFVI books.

Thanks for all your ideas!
I do remember some kind of thick Final Fantasy book that was about the history of the FF6 world. It was written by "Hayaku Kaku" which when I was 13 I was impressed by, since it sounded Japanese, but now as an adult I realize it is a made up name, Japanglish if you will, like a Japanese person calling themselves Guitar Jumpsuit because it sounds cool. Anyway, it was full of a lot of interesting nonsense. My uncle had it. Does anyone have it? (I'm totally heading over to half.com to see if I can get a cheap copy!) I like the theory that she was studied, raised in a test tube, and that sort of thing. Maybe after they unleashed her for the first time she went out of control and toasted a bunch of the Empire's soldiers or something, and that's when they decided to use the slave crown.

My pet theory is that Terra has been in crowns since she was small but that it was only in recent years that the Empire figured out how to tap her powers.

I got the book in the mail today. I had forgotten what a piece of crap it is. It's really thick, yeah, but it's just pages and pages of enemy stats for the most part. The guide is chock full of errors (A WOR tip - "If you weren't able to save Shadow on the crumbling Floating Continent, go to the Coliseum and he might be there - if you have the item he seeks." Yeah, you go do that buddy. Keep trying! He might be there this time!)
He doesn't shed any light on the Terra thing for me, because it according to him Terra was the result of a "mating" ![]() Um, OK, no, that would have been 1000 years ago when the world lay in ruins from the Magi War, but it wasn't over Terra, as she is 18 years old. Unless she was chilling in an ice block, Tritoch style. Meh. Waste of $5. -------------------- Kupo! |

My theory is that Terra is the granddaughter of the late Emperor Gestahl and he raised her as a replacement for his daughter Madonna, but when her powers were awakened by an Esper while walking around in the Research Facility, Gestahl decided to use his granddaughter as a living weapon to wreak havoc on the world. He then ordered Kefka to place a slave crown on her head to ensure her fealty.

Close, it's been awhile for me as well, it's like the fourth line in the game. Biggs talking to Wedge "And this woman, this... sorceress, why's she here? I believe Kefka had placed the slave crown on Terra shortly before the beginning of the game, and the slave crown wiped out her entire memory for the first 17 years of her life, therefore leaving that as a mystery to the players. She could have been raised anywhere, by anyone, and no one would be able to find out the truth.

im actually pretty sure Gestahl had something to do with the raising of baby Terra,
Possible spoilers: highlight to view anyways, im pretty sure she was raised as a test subject that Kefka got ahold of and brainwashed with the slave crown. Altho I may be completely wrong as Madonna gave her to him right before she died (or passed out, but im pretty sure the before ![]() ![]() |

Once... humans and Espers could trust each other... That was back then. Let me take it back a little further.
A lonely human almost front of their cave and passed out... They took her in. Maduin cared for this human. Cared for a while, got to know the girl. Then one day he cared so much he decided to have a kid. It was a girl.they named her Terra. Then the woman had trouble deciding if she belonged in the Espers World. She left. But then here comes Emperor Ghestal taking all of the Espers. The woman was spared, Maduin was taken to the Magitek Factory and Terra was USED as a Magitek Armor Mercinary, Celes magic was taught but she also wore one of them CROWNS.( War of the MAGI) |
