Ok ive been playing ff since i was, what, 3 years old. And theres ive always bellieved, but Ive never been able to confirm.
Now, is it the truth, that the mmore you steal, the easier it gets to steal? Or is there some other sort of factor. I dont steal much exceppt in ff9 and occasionly ff6, like to get dragoon boots, but thats about it. -------------------- Ff7 current game progress:Just finished the underwater reactor, on to rocket town! |

The exact formula varies from game to game, but generally speaking stealing is more successful if you've got higher agility. I can't think of a Final Fantasy game off the top of my head where its ever linked to how often you steal.

In Final Fantasy 3, 5-7 and 9, there is an accessory in each game that would allow thieves to increase their luck into stealing. FF3 and FF5 had Thief Gloves, while FF6 and FF7 had Sneak Ring, and Zidane was able to learn Bandit, and also Long Reach (this one makes him steal better items first).
I think the more you level up, the higher chances you have for stealing. Maybe just for FF6 I think. |

FFIV worked so that Edge always stole the common item.
FFV, FFVI, FFVII, and FFIX all had ways to increase the success rate of Steal. FFVIII and FFX did NOT, however, the latter had ways to increase the success of stealing a rare item (in FFX, the first steal was always successful). On FFVI's system (because that's frankly what I'm the most familiar with), the formula takes a fraction of the difference between Locke's level and the monster's, rounded to 0 or 128. A Sneak Ring doubles this value. Still, the common item has a 7/8 chance of appearing, and the rare item a 1/8 chance. This allows even a perfect Steal success rate can miss if you're unlucky. Oh, and do I Steal? All the time! It's fun to try and max out your inventory. And in FFX you HAVE to Steal in order to perform well. -CSM This post has been edited by Crazyswordsman on 8th August 2006 22:13 -------------------- The NEW Final Fantasy Wiki! Join us! |

In FFIV, Edge's Agility helps out his stealing. (Higher agility, higher success). And since FFIV is so great about stealing, you could steal an infinite number (well, until every slot in your inventory is filled with 99) of an item, in one battle. I did this in the GBA version to get all those nifty Sirens.

The only thing that number of times stealing affects anything is in FFIX where the number of times Zidane steals boosts the damage that Thievery does.
