Here's my opinion:
Vigor - Relatively useful, especially if you want to just skip skills and hit attack every time. Good for lazy people. Speed - I'd use it more if there was an esper that gave +2 to speed. It can be useful for breezing through battles though, Speed + Vigor = a quick fighter = lots of A-button-holding. Stamina - Stamina sucks. Unless you are doing a strategy where you equip a Tintinabar and a Cure Ring on that character, stay awaaaay from this stat! MagPwr - This has a huge effect on anything related to magic, it is a must-have. This is probably my favorite stat...it can affect Lores, Rages, some Tools, some Blitzes, some Dances, sketches...the only thing I don't think it affects is Sword Techniques...never really imagined Cyan as a mage anyway, but he can be if you boost his stats that way. The reason I created this poll is because some people have different opinions on which stats to raise. Some even may have a stamina strategy that they like *shrugs* you never know. I definitely raise the speed of all of my characters and then either Vigor or MagPower based on what command each character has

I think speed is the most important stat because:
1. You can quickly run away faster. 2. You have less time to stay inactive 3. Heal up/Attack immediately right before enemy gets their turn. |

Magic Power doesn't boost Sketch attacks, as Sketch uses the Magic Power of the sketched monster. There are two SwdTech abilities that DO rely on magic: Retort and Stunner.
I never really bothered to plan out Esper boosts, but the general concensus is that Stamina is beyond worthless to raise, Vigor and Speed need incredible amounts of boosts to become noticeable which leaves Magic Power as the best stat to raise on nearly every character. -------------------- |

Ah, so there IS a purpose for boosting Cyan's magic power...how exactly is magic power factored into retort? Say I wanted to boost my stats on Cyan to be a strong PsychoCyan, using the glitch...would raising his magic power make his retort stringer than raising his vigor?
On a side note, when I tried out the glitch earlier today (for the first time ever) I noticed that it didn't say "retort" at the top of the screen like it should have, not even the first time. Is this part of the glitch as well? |

There are two types of attacks in this game; physical and magical. All damaging physical attacks ('cept for a few oddball ones such as Dice) use Vigor to determine damage, all damaging magical attacks us Magic Power ('cept for, once again, oddball ones such as Blow Fish and Step Mine).
Retort is a magical attack, so it feeds off Magic Power only. However, the nature of the Psycho Cyan glitch is that you're an Imp, so you use a Fight attack instead of the magical Retort attack, the 'Retort status' isn't cleared, and you keep on attacking. Not exactly, to be honest, but close enough and simpler to understand ![]() For a superior Psycho Cyan, raise Vigor...but since the nature of PC is that he keeps going until everything's dead, does it really matter how much damage he's doing? Never seeing the Retort name appear is normal. I guess they forgot to install it on both parts of the attack because they thought it would feature the other one. -------------------- |

Well I noticed when I tried it I was doing like 13 damage per hit...the boss I was testing it on was Ifrit in the magitek factory, and it took 20 minutes to finish that battle...if I raised his vigor I could reduce that time, but it wouldn't matter once I got to the WoR since I could stick an imp halberd on him and do 9999 each hit. Anyway, thanks for the info

Depends on which character.
For Terra/Celes/Sabin/Strago/Gau I raise Magic Power. For Cyan/Shadow/Edgar its Vigor For Locke I raise Speed and Vigor For Setzer and Mog I raise both Vigor and Magic Power Obviously Gogo and Umaro don't get stat boosts. Oh, and for Relm its Stamina. This way she can heal my dead party members that actually matter in a fight. And if you guys are that impatient that you'd rather Edgar shoot off an autocrossbow that deals about 2000 damage per shot for a lvl 50 and have lots of inconsequential speed rather than seeing a lvl 50 Edgar deal triple that damage and rip throughe enemies, you're crazy. Plain and simple. There you have it. -------------------- "A little tight, but the price was right" - Locke "Oh, what a Fuddy Duddy" - Relm "..." - Shadow "I'm a General, not some love starved twit" - Celes "Although Edgar showers his attention on the ladies, most are smart enough to pay him no attention. Oh! King Edgar!" - Figaro Castle Inn Attendant |

I was always a big fan of MagPwr. With Ultima, Merton, Cure 3 and Life 3 its easy to own anyone without using an attack. I have always been a huge magic user in the game so I was sure to beat it once using no espers or magic.

speed because both phisical and magic fighters use it so it can really be used by any character effectivly.

Vigor is useful if you're planning to use a weaker weapon that has other bonuses (ie stat bonuses, MBlock%, etc) and want to deal 9999. However, I only find it useful to a certain point. Magic Power gets my vote since at very high levels, elementary spells (like Fire) can cause 5000 damage to a group of enemies. Something like Fire 2 can be used instead of Ultima to save MP (although it's elemental). The Economizer kind of defeats the point, but it's useful in the early part of the game. Stamina is nice with Marvel Shoes - you can recover a ton of HP at a time. Speed is nice but I have never seen enough of a difference to justify putting tons of points into it.
