so what do you think is the best sword. atma or ultima? let's find out.

Well, actually they both work the same way; dependant on the characters´ HP.
Therefore, none of them is better; they are tide.

Statistically I like them both the same, but Atma looks more like a light saber, so there goes my vote. It also has a slight bit of lore behind it.

We've had talks about this before. The Illumina (I'm assuming is what you mean by "ultima") is easily better because of the stat boosts and the lack of dependancy on HP. The Atma Weapon just looks cooler when used.

Perhaps he is refering to the Ultima Weapon from FFVII. I don't know why this is in the FFVI forum then... If not, then I still prefer the Atma. Illumina is great, but I can get high stat swords in almost any game. To me, Atma is somewhat interesting.

yes that's ultima weapon sword from ff7. this is in a ff6 forum cuz it has atma weapon.

Well, they're both tied into the physical well-being of a character. Ultima weapon looks cooler with its crystal clear edges, and you can stick materia in it. Can't do that with the Atma weapon. I don't see how its any contest.

There are many factors which do indeed make it a contest.

Appearance: Your choice, as it is a personal preference.
Stats: Probably Ultima due to materia. Simular otherwise.
History: Atma has a bit of lore. The Ultima sword almost comes out of nowhere.
Location: Ultima is taken after numerous enjoyable battles against the Ultima weapon, and is found near the end of the game. Atma is located in secret room, deep within a volcanic cave. You find it while still in the WoB.
Character: The person who uses the sword. Cloud is the only one capable of weilding the awesome power of the Ultima sword. Atma can be weilded by a number of characters, allowing for more variety.
Memories: Personal choice based on your experiences using or obtaining the weapon.

So as you can see, there is a lot more to it than merely stats and looks. It's can be a hard choice if you find yourself enjoying more than one aspect of each weapon.

Atma Is better because all you have to do is keep leveling up and it gets stronger and stronger until it can beat Illumina in Attack. i dont like Ultima Weopon (FFVII) Because you can't raise materia in it.

Atma weapon, it just looks cool, thats why.

Ultima Weapon because "Ultima" is the word for 'best' for me. Atma is just some random word to me. plus, the Ultima Weapon didn't take forever for me to make to a lot of damage, and Atma took forever for me. Plus, I think Ultima Weapon (monster) looked much cooler then Atma Weapon(monster)

I havent got far enough for the Atma in FFVI but I liked how my characters could deal 9999 damage in a physical attack, so Ill go for the Ultima

I like Atma weapon most of all. Ultima Weapon has a major flaw, when Cloud has low hit points the weapon is weak. It gets most of its power based on how many hit points Cloud has.

Null-voted because I haven't played FFVII. Had lots of fun with Atma Weapon, though. Every time someone attacked with it, I'd make the light saber "bzzzzzzzt" noise.

Since they technically have the same name *cough*localizationnotwithstanding*cough*, I wouldn't say either sounds better. Ultima Weapon has the story significance of a dropped item (in other words, none), and at the point where it's acquired it doesn't come off as more than a mere upgrade...with its HP-thriving roots still intact, however. Also, by that time Cloud is always my healer; not an attacker--or at most a pretty worthless attacker--thus the Ultima Weapon loses all purpose.

The Atma Weapon, which I've alternated between Terra and Celes in so many playthroughs it feels like THEIR weapon, has its own story behind it and is obtained early enough for you to watch it grow more powerful. Later on when you have full HP, it'll extend fully to where you know you're gonna get a good hit in. Plus, it closely resembles our good friend the lightsaber! I think it makes better sense that way: a sword formed from the wielders soul isn't likely gonna form a physical blade with clear edges, but rather a blade made entirely of laseresque light.

Even if you hate powerful weapons dependant on the user's HP, there's always the Illumina, so it's a win/win situation. I'd go with Atma.

I guess i never really paid much attention to that... maybe its because I never let my characters get hurt.

Its just that most things were dead before they attacked me.

anyone notice that the ulitma weapon in 8 has the same sword as clouds ulitmate weapon in seven?

Atma Weapon in FFVI is originally named Ultima Weapon in the Japanese version.

Kinda makes this poll redundant, but there you have it...

As for which is better? The lightsaber of course. I find your lack of faith disturbing.
