I cant decide which is better I think the Illumina raises more stats but the ragnarok doesnt consume MP at least I dont think it does.

For reference:
Ragnarok/Illumina Attributes Battle Power: 255/255 Same back row damage: No/Yes Consumes MP: Yes/Yes Random Spell: Flare/Pearl Stat Boosts Vigor: 7/7 Speed: 3/7 Stamina: 7/7 Mag.Power: 7/7 M.Block: 30/50 Statistically the Illumina is better but I find Flare to be a whole lot more useful than Pearl, so I prefer the Ragnarok. A lot of late game monsters absorb HP from Pearl. Flare is a non-elemental attack so it always does damage to enemies no matter what. When using this with a high magic power character you're talking serious damage. -------------------- FFXI (Siren server) Tauu the Windurstian Tarutaru! White Mage & Paladin |

With that 20 % extra Magic Block, Illumina is the better one of the two...but I too prefer Flare, barrier-piercing and non-elemental as it is, over Pearl. Plus, the Ragnarok goes back in Final Fantasy history al the way to FF IV (as released in Japan). What can I say? I've always loved those references to other games.

Personally, I like the pearl elemental, and if you have it on a good magic user (I hope you do), then you can just use spells against the pearl absorbing monsters. I like Illumina better, especially due to the added Magic Block. Gotta love Illumina + Aegis Shield + Force Armor + Zephyr Cape= never get hit by magic attacks again!

I say the Ragnorak is the better of the two, becasue of the healing issue that i90 mentioned. Also, I hate fighting in the Collesium (sp), so the ragnorak is the way to go for me.

I prefer Illumina. In my most recent game, I haven't gotten it yet, so can anyone remind me if the Pearl-absorbing monsters will absorb the sword's attack, or just the Pearl spell itself when it randomly comes down?

Illumina does NOT deliver a Pearl-elemental attack, if that is what you are asking. But it does have a Pearl Special, that is, a random chance that it will cast Pearl (the spell) after a successful hit.

Thanks! So in that sense at least, it's different from, for example, the Flame Sabre.

Man, you think you're a hot-shot because you happen to know the 'Crystal' sword from II as released in the US is really the Ragnarok...and you get Deagol'D like this on the topic.
Well, some more info for my site, at least. -------------------- |
