Stuck on the Floating Continent!!

Argh! This is annoying...I'm to the point of the Floating Continent, which I've beaten several times before without any trouble. This time through, however, once I get to where the save point is, I wind up getting "stuck". By "stuck", I mean that I've hit all the switches I can find, and walked up to every conceivable spot where the ground should open up a path, and still no luck. There's a couple of transporters that I can't access because they're blocked with rock in front of them, but the rock doesn't give way, and there's no more buttons to push. When I go into the save point room, and leave, some of the switches have been "reset", so there's no way back to certain areas, seemingly no way forward, and the only real recourse is to jump back on the airship before I go nuts. Maybe old age is taking it's toll on me or something, but I don't remember this being so difficult. I even resorted to the walkthrough on this site, and it didn't help. Am I missing something really obvious here that you can tell my reading this? If so, I'd appreciate the help...this is driving me nuts!

Some good help would be is to go to www.gamefaqs.com and find a guide there could help. That is what I did. Just click SNES and choose FFIII (It is still the same thing) and you will get a list of guides look for the one by a guy called "DC".

Well, I already checked some walthrus...I looked at this one too, but it didn't she any new light on the situation. I can make it to where you can jump onto the airship without any trouble, but I don't remember seeing a way to go northwest there, which is what the most recent FAQ said...guess I'll have to look around some more. Too bad I'll have to start over...I've fought my way from the start to the airship 4 times, only to give up each time and hop aboard the airship again...my characters have gone up five levels just on the Floating Continent itself...

ok if you can get to the point where you can get to the airship then you should be able to continue... i'm new to the boards so i'm not sure if this is a spoiler or not but just to be safe

Welcome, and thanks for your help...
Just after reading your post, I checked one of the FAQs I'd downloaded...sure enough, it says pretty much what you told me. Now all I'm wondering is how I managed to miss that so many times over...maybe I just didn't look hard enough...once again...old age!  -------------------- You know me, you just wish you didn't...
