As the topic says, anybody use the Auto Battle function?
Last time I played the game (about 6 months ago?, didn't get all the way through it.) I played using the Auto Battle almost all the time. Usually controlling just Ramza and letting my generics go hog wild unless I was doing the power-leveling I do so much. It's been awhile, but I do remember that it did save me a lot of headaches. I have a special knack at always move the archers in JUST the right spot to be useless, even if I placed them right, I'd have to check each Charge in the AT list to see what would hit. Then I'd have to double check the name of the guy I'm trying to hit to see if I could. I'd spend two or three minutes checking ALL the Math Skill combinations and comparing. I would have to check every target CT in range of the Lancer's Jump to see if I have a SHOT at hitting one. Auto Battle made all that a hell of a lot easier, as it do those in a few seconds. Most classes function pretty well. Squire, Geomancer, Time mage, Archer and Oracle are simple as is. Ninjas only throw stuff you have tons of, so no worries about losing that rare weapon. Knights, Lancers and Monks hit stuff to death. Some of the classes are better in your hands through, Mediators, Summoners, Bards and Dancers don't play as well or as strategically as a human could use them. Still, anyone try the Auto Battle? -------------------- Really Random Quote of the Day: "Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war." - Richard M. Nixon So if you're done reading this, you know I have nothing to say and you've wasted your time. Thank you come again. |

No, I never have. I like having control over all of the characters in a battle unless I voluntarily cast Berserk on them.

I'm with FabulousFreebird, I find it much more fun when you have control over your units. And it IS a strategy RPG so it's no wonder you have to plan your strategy well fullproof and have the patience with the plan. That is why I love FFT, it makes you use your brain and have the patience with executing it. Of course, if you are just in a battle to level up, than yeah, its better to have all your units on Auto Battle while you stand back, enjoy their training, and only but in when they fall in a serious tight spot.

the only time i have ever used auto battle is when im super leveling kill all enemies, and turn it and all of your characters into frogs and just leave it over night, otherwise i dont really trust the AI, i mean you beatit in every batlle right? therefore human strategy must be better than the AI's

I never have. I think the battle system is so wonderful that it would be a pity not to have control over all the characters

Hell yes I have. Certainly never in storyline battles, but it makes unwanted random encounters a lot easier. Just put it on Auto Battle, put down the PSP, make a sandwich, and you're set!

I use Auto Battle. Particularly with Mages and/or Calculators. Generally, the computer is better at playing Mages than I am. Also, Archers, people with guns, and Dragoons.
If I am having a really hard time with a battle, I'll set it on Auto and see what the computer does. Then I'll go back and mix in what worked from me and the computer. |

I actually did use it once, but didn't like the feel of not controlling my characters

i only use it to level up. get down to 1 enemy, drop their speed to 1 and set to coward. squire skill command for the win!

Only in tough storyline battles. But auto goes best with Mages, because they know what they are doing more than me. lol

Auto battle would sort of defeat the purpose of playing this game. I have never used it.

I used it once when I chose it on accident, and it was super boring to me. It would be like sitting and watching someone else play, which is never as much fun as playing yourself.

I use auto battle selectively, since sometimes it is extremely stupid. I use it for some of my mages, archers, calculators. If I am in an easy random encounter for levelling purposes I tend to put everyone on AI and just let them do their thing while I am doing something else.
I find that the AI plays mages and archers, on average, better than I do. Although there isn't as much of a difference with the mages than the archers (2-panel thingy). EDIT: And Dragoons/Lancers, if I want them to Jump, since there's no possible way for a human to use that move correctly. This post has been edited by yelanates on 27th July 2008 05:29 |

I agree with you, auto-battle does have the advantage of killing the random enemy battles for you, which is nice because no flee command was put into the game. -------------------- "I will never be just a memory..." |
