Biography

A knight with the power of the dark sword, serving as a mercenary and prone to a lack of morality and desire only for a paying job and possibly the opportunity to dirty his blade. In the outset, he leads the band of sellswords tasked with supporting Agrias' soldiers to protect Ovelia, and in this role he serves as Ramza's commander. He is drawn into the plot with Ramza, though only to ensure he collects the paycheck promised.

Once the princess has been found, though, Gaffgarion reveals that he has been working two contracts, accepting pay from the royal family to protect Ovelia while simultaneously working for Goltanna to facilitate her murder and cancel her claim to the throne. Upon learning this, Ramza drives him away, fighting him again later when the mercenary triggers an ambush. Gaffgarion is finally killed at the gates of Lionel when the final mission to rescue the princess takes place. It's unclear whether Ramza is then able to claim his rightful share of the pay.
