What's the team/party/squad/whatever, that you find the most functional, and (i would think) use the most?
Mine:
Terra - mega-powerful magic; armed with Atma-Weapon
Shadow - good magic, throwing skill and dog.
Cyan - SwordTech's and every healing spell in the book
Sabin - Blitz's and as said higher. (Drop the SwordTech's with Sabin ...duh!)

I like keeping the game in reality. The one thing I don't like about the game is that everyone can learn everything. And once that happens, it's very easy just to see 4 Ultimas which isn't  a lot of fun. My previous endevor playing this game, I only gave specific magic to certain members. This was the most efficient party I had.

Terra <- Learned every spell. Mainly though, she was all offensive black magic

Sabin <- I had Sab leveled up to L45 before the WoR. I gave Sabin no magic, but Merit Award + Offering + Excalibur made up for that

Shadow <- I gave Shadow the dark spells (Death, Demi, Quake, WWind, Quartr, Vanish) but rarely used them. Mainly, I had Shadow throw.

Celes <- I gave her all the White Spells and all the Gray spells, but limited the number of Black Spells. She was mainly cural magic.

Terra- a powerful character since the beginning, i arm her with the genji glove+offering and give her atma weapon and excalibur.  shes all the physical power i need.

Locke- I tote him along for looks and locke's obvious cool appeal. Locke is stylin it up with that relaxed look and that bandana that says loudly to the world "i am".

Gogo- Go does everything terra does.

Setzer- Setzers my favorite character. set him up with a genji glove, dice and fixed dice, and hes a (potential) powerhouse.

everyone knows every spell.

I don't really think like that...

But I found Edgar, Relm, Gau and Setzer kinda cool.  THey all have cool commands and I custimized them.

Edgar= All rounder, bit of everything (came out best) and a good deal of magic (mainly support[gray])

Setzer=right hand man (with cool motif) alot of vigor (power) bu0t little magic.

Gau=(General Gau!!! :E Inside joke between me and bro) tank, LOTs of stanima, tons of hit points, snow muffler:E and a some magic (SUPPORT SUPPORT SUPPORT!!! and black!)

Relm= magic fiend!  75 magic power!!! Ultima kicked ass, even fire 3 did insane damage!

In case wondering I once got 112 (or around that) vigor for Sabin (or Cyan, can't remember)  But in conclusion, I pefer to play as someone I haven't or just felt like playing with...

Terra, Celes, Edgar, Locke.  Sometimes replacing Locke with Sabin.

Sometimes, out of pity, I like to take the other characters out for a spin :)

Terra, Sabin, Shadow, Mog.

Terra's great for spellcasting, Morph and Gem Box/Economizer if I'm feeling cheap.  Ultima for attack, Cure3 for healing.  Basically unstoppable.

Sabin's an all-around physical attacker, the muscle of the group.  He's got Bum Rush, of course, and a powerful physical attack besides.  He's got all the high-level spells, too, if need be.

Shadow's there to throw Imp Halberds and Cure Rods (9999 HP damage automatically).  He's also a great attacker, as his better weapons (the Striker and the Stunner) are great with Genji Glove for their nasty side-effects.  I sometimes like to equip him with the Genji Glove/Offering.  All around good choice.

Mog's there to do everything, particularly as a support spellcaster.  He can heal and cast powerful attack spells, and the Snow Muffler means he can't die, period.  Early on I'll use a Dance or two for Sun Bathe, and the Pearl/Aura Lance packs a mean punch.

As a good rule of thumb, I'll give all of my main characters every spell, just in case.  Mog and Edgar are also interchangeable in this situation, depending on what I feel like at the moment.

Celes over Terra, cuz Celes can fight too

Sabin cuz he's just powerful
Sometimes though, I will switch out Sabin for Setzer (Genji Glove/Offering/Fixed Dice =P)

Mog because he's strong, and good at magic

Last but not least, Shadow...self explanatory with Throw really =P

How about a good spellcaster team:

Terra/Relm/Mog/Celes (all members have all spells learned).

What could kill more?

My best team was this:

Edgar:All magic spells, high attack and evasion.
Setzer:All the white magic. Mainly curing.
Cyan:Cyan tended to do a lot of jumping....
Sabin:Sabin simply hit hard!

I try to build up all my characters evenly, but every game I play Edgar and Sabin are always the highest level, 'coz I always have them at the front of my party. Cyan, Shadow or Celes usually come in second.

My party right now *late WOB*

Shadow: Level 27, throws stuff, attacks w/ Genji Glove, Hardened and Blossom
Edgar: Level 30, regular attacks *Gauntlet and Stout Spear*, Chainsaw and Drill
Locke: Level 27, steal, magic
Sabin: Level 29, almost 30, blitzes, magic

Functional and most used isn't the same thing for me. I have a rule in RPG's that I will level all the characters evenly. That way I don't rely on a small team of overpowered brutes in any RPG. That being said here is the team I try to make survive the Final battle.

•Mog- Snow Muffler, Ribbon, Saftey Bit, Paladin sheild Genji Helmet and Auara Lance.
Mog is the only one whom I remember the equipment he had on for the final battle. I always forgot if there was an instant death type attack amongst all of those enemies. I don't even remember if there is one now pinch.gif . I just always have Safety Bit on him just in case.

•Sabin- Two words: Bum Rush.

•Terra- Because I thought she would double the power of Ultima. But Master Zed said I was wrong in another thread. It sounds fishy but because he would know better then me, I will take his word for it. At least, I will for now shifty.gif . I still think Morph is handy to have around.

• Locke- Because I leave Gogo on the airship and still need a jack of all trades.

What? Four characters? Cyan alone is more than enough.

I dismantled Kefka's Tower with this team.

Mog: Snow Muffler, Plus Water Rondo, Plus Killer Magic.

Locke: Gengi Glove + Offering + Atma Weapon + Excalibur = Death to all enemies in one hit.

I really only need those 2 to destroy everything, but when I use 4 characters, I add,

Umaro: Blizzard Orb, Rage Ring = Crazy Sidekick. Whenever I use Mog, he comes along.

Gogo: He/She dances a different dance then Mog, so the scenery always changes. I use Gogo on Desert Aria and Mog on Water Rondo, so the enemy is always being devestated by one element or the other. Also used for Blitz and Throw.

Could you repeat that?

for me it's
Terra-Learns magic without esper and can equip atma weapon and her morph does incredible damage.

Cyan-powerful sword techs fast speed.

Celes-Can use her relic option in battle to block magic also learns magic without esper.

Edgar-Has powerful tools and his attack is quite good.

To respond to Tonepoet: barrier-piercing attacks such as Ultima and Flare ignore damage multipliers such as Morph. I´m not sure why it does that, but from what I´ve seen and heard it´s very much Square´s actual intention.

Terra: Gem Box+Econimizer+Ultima=everything else is dead. She also has a little over 100% Mevade

Locke: Genji Glove+Offering+Atma+Illumina+High speed= Why do the others even bother entering the battle? Also has arout 99% Mevade and somewhat high attack.

Celes= Ultima+Econimizer+Excalibur+Vigor+Magic=Jack of all trades. With slightly over 100% Mevade.

Gau= WIND GOD+255% Mevade=Unstopable AND cheap!

Also, Locke and Gau don't have a lot of spells, and Terra and Celes have all the good spells.

A functional team? Two Imp Dragoons, full Imp equipment + Dragon Horn. Let's make those Sabin and Edgar, something along those lines. 255 Defense Gau with the Merit Award and a Sniper for weapon. 128 % Mblock Gogo (includes Merit Award). Now there's a team you'll be hardly damaging smile.gif

My team was Sabin, Edgar, Locke, and Cyan. For some reason, I can never keep Sabin and Edgar apart. Sabin's Blitz comes in handy for big bosses, and Edgar wipes out monsters along the way with Tools, with a little extra help from Cyan's SwordTech. Locke steals everything and keeps my inventory full. When I start getting Espers, I give them all one esper, rotate them, and then start another four, but Locke is usually support magic and healing magic, Cyan is healing magic, and Edgar and Sabin are my attack magic. This party has never failed me before!

Even though I usually wouldn't purposely use such a team

Terra: powerful magic and decent physical stats.
Sabin: Blitz.
Strago: Lores, lores, magic.
and one of the following: Gau (powerful Rages), Gogo (versatility), Shadow (Throw), possibly Celes (extra magic), occasionally Setzer (fixed dice)
