I decided to level up a bit before going for W-Summon, so I took a field trip to the Northern Crater. I sent everyone on their way and proceeded to go around and collect all the goodies before getting to Jenova. Well I decided I was done levelling up and went back to the place where the group is gathered for the first time (where my save crystal is). I saved and then walked over to the stalagmite thing to climb up and...its not letting me climb up. I tried walking off screen and resetting and it isn't letting me climb up the stupid thing.

Am I forever stuck in the Nortern Crater?

Did you use the save crystal in the floating rock area!? Ah...nightmare if you have, there's no going back.

Nope. When you first go into the Crater there's the cylindrical thing. Then you climb down the frosted rock thing. Then you get to the area where you jump down and go through doors until the very bottom. Once you get there you climb down the stalagmite and thats when the group is there. Everyone says "Well Im going..." right or left. That's where my save crystal is.

I though that glitch only occured in my game because I exited the screen while I was suppose to tell who goes where (since it doesn't prevent you from doing it). Anyway, the same thing hapenned to me and no solution is known. :/

Personnaly I just restarted a new game since I had no other save.

WHY?! I just got Omnislash! I hate my life. The first time I played the game when Diamond Weapon was trying to attack Midgar, I ran into a field battle and when I came out of it Diamond was gone. Had to start the game over. *screams*

Meh, gives me another reason to start a new game. And I still have my save from the (nearly) original first time I played.

What?! No need for a new game that's well over-the-top. You can just leave the Northern Crater by loading the save, then going ALL the way back up except at the very top go through the blacked out door. You'll then get a choice to go back to the Highwind. Job done.

No no no. I don't think you understand where I am. The first time you meet the group, before you get to them on that very same screen you climb down a rock formation (a stalagmite) and run over to the group. Thats when they tell you there is two paths to take and you tell them which way to go i.e left or right.

Now I did this randomnly to send them on their way and then went around by myself and collected all the goodies there is in the treasure boxes. I was leveling up. So once I decided that was enough, I went back to the area where the group was (which they aren't there now because I sent them on) and saved on my save crystal.

I then tried to climb up that rock formation which leads me up to area with the doors and jumping up to the top (which then leads to climbing up the frosty rocks, which then leads to the circular area which leads to the blacked out door you spoke of). BUT it won't let me climb up that rock formation. Thus I may be forever stuck.

No worries. But this does mean some game playing... gutted eh? You have to go on untill the party meets again - right at the end of the game. It's in the room when you see a bright glowing pool of green... stuff (lifestream). Go left from where you enter the room to meet up with everyone. Now after you repeatly tap circle to skip what they say (unless you've never completed to game), you can freely leave the Northern Crater.

It didn't work...went down and talked to everyone. When given the option to go on or not yet, I chose not yet and went back up but alas...I still cannot climb up. Thanks for your help...but I think I may go sulk now...

What?! No you have to go through the door at the top! You can't climb back up the same bit! There is a dark sort of... passage beside the way you came into the Northern Crater which you go into to get the chance to return to the Highwind.

*sigh* Not the part where you slide down from the Highwind. THE STALAGMITE!! I CANNOT CLIMB UP THE STALAGMITE!! *dies*

Yeah, that gray pointed rock near Yuffie is the way back up to the other caves and eventually out of the crater. I can go as far down as I want and all over, but when I try to climb back up that rock to leave Cloud won't grab onto it. As far as I know, thats the only way out.

Hey look, the glitch occured, he CAN'T go back. There may be a way using the gameshark to change the current location, but I don't know if he'd be able to go down again at that point since you can't climb it.

I know it's harsh, but all you can do is start a new game and not let it happen again. :/

I looked around at all the GameShark codes, but I don't think there is one to change locations randomly. Sucks.

Well it sure happens in the PSX version.
What causes the bug seems to be the placement of the save crystal in that room. I remember doing so, but it has to be on the lower platform since I remember placing the save crystal BEFORE going down meeting my party and I was able to go back up.
Exiting the screen before telling everyone where to go may also result in the glitch to occur but that's incertain.

I think the glitch stores itself in your save file, so if you place the save point and don't use it to save/load (what would be the purpose then of placing it then? ) you should be able to go back up.

I forgot about that glitch years ago, it happened on my first playthrough...

I'm going to try that this time I play it (having first made a save outside). You'd think Square would've fixed that as so many people would make a save there... I made my save (first time round) on the higher level and had no problems. I suppose you made yours on the lower level then?

That would be very idiodic.W-Summon isn't like THE BEST materia ever,and if you have KOTR be happy and live on with your life and finish the game.
I know its handy but....just dont use W-Summon,i know you can't get out now.

i agree it isnt the best materia but it is useful against the weapons unless you want to beat them without it

The reason I wanted it was to beat the weapons. I've already beat the game numerous times, but never beat the Weapons so this kinda discouraged me.
