Here comes another tidbit to pass the time until I finish up the timeline... Here's some data on when nations in the FFVI world were founded.
Doma claims to have been founded before the Wari of the Magi, though there is no evidence to support this. At any rate it is the oldest nation in the world, and it was in existence when the war ended. The Empire was founded 685 years before the game begins, which suprised me. I never figured that the Empire had been around so long. It may even be (and this is conjecture on my part) that the military organisation which forms into the Empire was in existance since the War of the Magi. Most of the small principalities in the game come into existance about 200 years before the game, after the industrial revolution begins. These include Albrook, Maranda, Tzen, and Nikeah. Figaro is first mentioned at -202, when Figaro Castle is completed. However, the desert kingdom was probably well established prior to that period. Narshe, formerly a lawless boom-town, forms into an independent state 150 years before the game. Though Gestahl's rise to the position of Emperor in -20 wasn't the first step in the nation's progression towards open agression, it was definitely the most important. Form this point on the Empire is also known as the Gastra (Gastra = Geshtahl) Empire. Jidoor is unaccounted for. The book doesn't count Jidoor as one of the industrial nations, but it doesn't have much to say about it other than that. -------------------- "Cavefish is delicious, but only if cooked." |

Fabulous. I can't thank you enough for providing this information. The book is in Japanese, yes? Otherwise I'd be picking up a copy for my sad, fangirl self.
Will you eventually be compiling all the information into one big FAQ? It'd be great if you did, though in no way necessary for you to go the extra mile. I'm just wondering if I should start pasting this information into my text editor for my own future reference, or hold out. Again, thanks so much. This is a great thing you're doing. ![]() -------------------- Wilson: "That smugness of yours really is an attractive quality." House: "Thank you. It was either that or get my hair highlighted. The entire creation data thing on one hand is very interesting, expanding the background of FF6 beyond the game itself, but on the other, is a little annoying, because it's invalidating ideas and assumptions people have had or made without access to this.
Still, most of this data here is a bit ambigious and doesn't really cover things in that much detail, but the existence of it is nonetheless interesting. Just out of inquiry, how widely available was this data in Japan, and how much of it can truly be confirmed as official canon? -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

Got a picture of that book? I've been hunting around on google for a while and can't seem to find any mention of it anywhere. Other than here, that is. It's gotten to the point where I'm starting to question its existence... :x I'm really curious as to what it'd look like, its availability, and wether it can be ordered from anywhere or if there are people who'd be willing to sell theirs online if it isn't available anymore.
Sounds like it would make for an interesting read. ![]() This post has been edited by Silverlance on 26th June 2005 20:26 -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Quote Will you eventually be compiling all the information into one big FAQ? I was thinking about organizing the data into a webpage. I have the equivalent book for FFIV, and maybe I'll see about tracking down a similar one for FFV and make it a Super Famicom good time. ![]() Quote Just out of inquiry, how widely available was this data in Japan, and how much of it can truly be confirmed as official canon? The book seems to be rather common, though long since out of print. I would like to be able to cross reference the data as well, since a lot of it can't be confirmed by in-game events. I hope to track down some of the V-Jump specials for this purpose. I understand they have good character background stuff. Quote Got a picture of that book? I've been hunting around on google for a while and can't seem to find any mention of it anywhere. It might help if you search with this: ファイナルファンタジーⅥ設定資料編 . I've seen some interior scans floating around on other (English) FF6 sites. If you've seen an illustration of the Blackjack with a page seam right down the middle, that's from this book. Unfortunately, every piece of rare production art in this book is in the middle of a two page spread. ![]() -------------------- "Cavefish is delicious, but only if cooked." |
