Hi. I've been a poster here before, but I forgot my old name and password, so I made a new one. I know this topic has been semi-done before, but I'm needing a hand with the Limberry fight with Elmdor.
My big question is: Is the success rate of "Steal" increased by "Concentrate" as a Support Ability and by using Thief as a job class? If so, is there a way to increase my "Steal" success rate? I shall describe my setup for the fight (the parts that matter). Mexico - Male Lancer (Brave 75) Jump, Steal, Auto-Potion, Concentrate, Move+2. Oberisk, Crystal Shield, Circlet, Carabini Mail, 108 Gems. Comet - Female Priest White Magic, Yin-Yang, Auto-Potion, Defense Up, Move Mp Up. Gold Staff, Barette, Black Costume, Chantage. So basically after Orlandu and Agrias get done killing Celia and Lede, Ramza gives support to Mexico and Comet with his "Item" abilities. Last night, I tried for nearly an hour, but Elmdor simply would not give up the Masamune. I managed to steal the Shield first, Helmet second, Armor third. After five tries, I managed to snag the gauntlet. After five MORE tries, EVEN WHEN HIS BRAVE WAS AT ZERO, the bastard still wouldn't give the Masamune up, and I couldn't bring my Lancer/Thief back (ran out of Phoenix Downs). Do you all have any suggestions with this party? Any additional abilities I should learn before trying this again? Would making my Lancer back into a Thief help? When attempting a steal, all you need to matter for your looter is his Speed. Concentrate will help you a little, in the sense that you'll get the same percentage from the front, sides and back. Martial Arts virtually increase your Speed by 50% for the purpose of stealing only.
A good setup (one that never failed for me) is using Ramza's Yell ability every turn on my Ninja (best speed of all classes and good movement), and bring in a couple of beefed-up mages with Math Skill (final party member is up to you: I usually bring in a Monk, for sheer power, equiped with the Battle Skill secondary skillset for Speed break and Two swords for max efficiency). Dispose of the assassins quickly, while spreading out your mages. Th Math Skill can then be put to great use for reviving allies if you place your units carefully on the battlefield, but also for slowing Elmdor (only status ailment is sensible to). Give Haste to both Ramza and your stealer-ninja, then continuously use Yell with Ramza on your ninja. The Monk will be used for Speed Break first, to reduce Elmdor's number of turns, then can be used to diminish his PA for when he does get one. My advice is to go after the Shield first, then the Masamune: Elmdor tends to rely more on his fists once you have his sword (he's equipped with Martial Arts, so it makes sense). Good luck. |

Didn't you use to have that little lauging Gau as your avatar? *Misses Gau*
Anyway thanks for the advice. I shall change my Lancer to a Ninja forthwith, but I fear the lack of HP will complicate things further. If that doesn't work, I'll start teaching Orlandu how to "Steal" and hope that him having Excalibur will make him fast enough. I can't comment on him using his fists as both of them seem to be holding onto the sword for dear life. What strikes me as odd, however, is that Elmdor seems to have a limitless supply of swords. He "blew away" no less than 2 Muramasas, 1 Kikuichimonji, 1 Asura, and 2 Kotetsus during the course of the fight. Is it true that if I nab the Masamune, that he will no longer be able to "Draw Out"? I posted a strategy some time ago in the "Rare Weapons and Armor" topic, or some title to that effect.
Quote You can get Chantages by inviting, breeding, and poaching Uribos from the Finath River mission. All of Mr. Thou's advice is very sound, I just thought I'd contribute. My strategy involves Beowulf with his Chicken Magic Sword skill learned and a 108 Gems armlet equipped, a Knight with Battle Skill mastered (I usually make this Agrias with a Ribbon and a Chantage), and a thief with all of the useful Steal abilities (I usually make this a generic female ninja with Concentrate, Chantage, and Ribbon equipped). Your other two party members are Ramza and a second charater of your choice, both of whose first priorities are eliminating Celia and Lede; probably not a bad idea to make sure there is some healing ability somewhere, I usually have Ramza know the Murasame skill and make the fifth either Mustadio or a Summoner with Fairy. So with that party assembled, you should have Beowulf use Chicken twice on Elmdor (so his pesky Blade Grasp ability is no longer a problem), have your knight Speed Break (to lower both the number of turns he receives and his resistance to Steal) and then Power and Mind Break to further weaken the bum, and finally have your thief steal and steal some more. -------------------- |

He will still be able to use Draw Out on you but you will notice a graphic glitch when he will be doing so (I'm not sure if this affects Muramasa only). Well at least it's only an innofencive glitch.
If you don't reduce his Brave, after you steal off the Masamune he will not use it's draw out skills but his bare fists instead. Good Luck to ya... -------------------- Sayonara |

When I'm stealing his gear, I arrange three of my party members in a row but slightly spread out. Elmdor will use Kikuikimoji (spelt that wrong...) to hit the three party members as opposed to Muramsa. A lot safer strategy because you won't risk the Death Sentence or Confusion from Muramasa. There is a chance he will still use the Muramasa if you put your allies too close together. The other two party members not in the line will be Ramza (using yell) and my thief stealing.
Typically, the party I use is: Ramza (Squire, learn Ultima) Orlandu (Holy Swordsman, lightning stab to start to send the assassins to critical.) Beowulf (Chicken, obvious reasons) Agrias (I just always use her, had her as a chemist using a gun with battle skill to reduce Elmdor's speed from a distance) Thief (steal of course) Once the assassins are in critical, they'll use shadowstitch if anyone is close. Thus, move Ramza close enough to get shadowstitched. On the next assassin's turn, they will more than likely use Ultima. There was one problem with this strategy and that was that I think either Celia or Lede (or both) have throw. It's been a while. Edit: The graphic glitch occurs on Kikuikimoji (will never spell it right) as well. If you use the technique foxbird on Elmdor his brave will be lower, thereby making him use his reaction technique Blade Grasp less. Then take out the shield. He will then have about a 50% chance of stealing elmdor's stuff.

Thanks to all; I accomplished the feat last night by making the following changes:
Agrias - Chemist Item, Battle Skill, Auto-Potion, Concentrate, Move+2 Orlandu - Holy Swordsman All Swordskill, Steal, Counter, Attack Up, Move+1 Everyone else was essentially the same. All I did was have Agrias use Speed Break until his speed was 1. I was then taking about 10 turns to his one, so I had Orlandu and my other thief take turns Stealing. What was crazy though was this time, he wouldn't let go of the Gauntlet. I had to try about 8-9 times before he gave it up. I think the game randomly picks the item that Elmdor wants to keep the most and makes it nearly impossible to Steal it. Thanks again to all. Odds are in a day or two, I'll have questions about the Javelin II/Estucheon II battle. |

I'll make it simple and quick:
there are two pedestrals, If I remember well, the right one carries the escutcheon II and the left one Javalin II. You can only be sure two have the second version of item by the item's sprite (the Escutcheon II will look like a Gold shield while javelin II will be graphics that you won't have ever seen before). If I remember well again, The pedestrals are 7 height tall, so you will need a monster in order to get on it. Just make a dragon/Hydra type monster or even Worker 8 stand beside the pedestral. If you ahve 4 Jump, (3 Base jump class + Germinas boost / 4 Base jump class) you will be able to get on the pedestrals with Move-find Item. I would recommand killeing every monster before doing so and don't let Worker 7 Suicide, because his HP fastly goes down, be sure to heal him. I recommand getting the Nagrarock as well. I wish ya luck! -------------------- Sayonara |

Just make ur dude a ninja with steal as secondary ability.Have ramza yell at him, until his speed is higher than elmdors,10 or 11 should do the trick. Then,if have beowulf, have him use chicken on elmdor until he turns into a chicken, then,ur ninja should have a 50 or 60 percent chance of stealing.I wish u good luck.U'll need it
