Can anyone exlpain the effect of the following stats:

Strength

Dexterity

Vitality

Magic

Spirit

Luck

Attack

Attack %

Defense

Defense %

Magic Attack

Magic Defense

Magic Defense %

Strength Adds to physical damage

Dexterity Adds chance to hit enemy/how fast your bar fills

Vitalty phyiscal damage reduction

Magic Adds to over all magic damage/ duration of spells

Spirit Reduces to amount of magic damage you take

Luck Affects everything you do in a small way (chance to crtical +)

Attack Base damage+strength+weapon damage = attack power

attack % chance to hit enemy (attack%-evade?)

Defence Physical damage reduction (base armor+Vitalty+armor=Defence)

Defence % chance to evade (base evade+dex+armor=Defence %)

M. Attack Affects how much magic damage (base magic damage+magic stat+ some weapons=Magic damage)

M.defence affects how much damage you take from spells (base magic defence+spirit+armor=magic defence)

M. Magic% chance to avoid magic damage (base M.Magic Defence+dont know stat+armor)

huh? I thought dexterity was the speed your character moves at. (how fast your bar moves) or am I being stupid? be honest.
I'm sure if you take a speed source, it makes your dexterity go up... hmm.

Strength
Base Physical damage modifier on your enemy

Dexterity
ATB speed gauge increasment factor, the higer, the faster
Also the main factor in base evade % (Dexterity/4 rounded down)

Vitality
Base Physical damage reduction modifier

Magic
Base Magical Damage/healing modifier (magic/summon/enemy skills)

Spirit
Base Magical damage reduction modifier

Luck
Base factor for critical rate (I think Luck/3/100 = Critical rate %)

Attack
Physical damage modifier (Weapon's strength + Character's strength = Attack)

Attack %
Chance to hit your enemy (reduced by target's evade)

Defense
Physical damage reduction modifier (armor's defense + Vitality = Defense)

Defense %
Chance to avoid a physical attack (armor's evade rate + Dexterity/4 [rounded down] = Defense %)

Magic Attack
Magical damage/healing modifier (accesory's magic attack + Magic = Magic attack)

Magic Defense
Magical damage reduction modifier (armor's magic defense + Spirit = Magic Defense)

Magic Defense %
Chance to avoid a magical attack (armor's magic defense = Magic defense % ; cannot be reduced)

Isn't it?

Note that you CANNOT exceed 255 in any stats. If you put on a magic materia, -2 str, +2 MA, so you will have 253 str, and 255 (+2) MA, If you then use 2 power sources on yourself it will go back to 255. But then if you unequip then equip back the materia, you strenght will be gone back to 253.

Besides, if you could actually exceed 255, it would reset back to zero, at least square prevented this for you hehe. Same goes for weapon, with max strength, a buster sword won't do any less damage than Apocalypse sword (This doesn't include Ultimate or special weapons of course)

I heard there was a glitch that prevents armor from adding to your defense, so Defense = Vitality
