Made this little lot up to guide myself for coherent yet irrelevent facts in FF7 fics (for instance, some of the items mentioned are in Ultima Farce) and felt I might as well share it to see if anyone felt it was any good.

In the unlikely event someone would like to use some of the ideas here, feel free to go ahead.

And yes, I am mad.

Go here to see the Shinra shooty stuff!
Weapons of the Shin-Ra Army and Police: Midgarian and Shinra standard equipment
Close Combat Weaponry
Buster Sword Model Alpha
Length:700mm
Weight: 35kg
Type: Slashing sword

The original Buster sword was made in 1975 for use by SOLDIER infantry who preferred sword and pistol combat. It has long since discontinued combat use, with only collectors and cheap copies still around today. It’s sheer weight made it a cumbersome weapon, but demand from SOLDIER was for a larger, longer, sword.

Buster Sword Model Beta
Length:1000mm
Weight: 50kg
Type: Slashing sword

The second version, made in 1980, proved extremely bulky and unpopular. It was replaced by two weapons: the Buster Gamma and the Buster Delta.

Buster Sword Model Gamma
Length:1200mm
Weight: 55kg(Modified ‘Light’ version)/45kg (2nd+ production)
Type: Slashing sword

Nicknamed the ‘backbuster’ for its huge size, the sword was made of lighter metals than previous builds, and came in as the same weight as the Beta, but had to have an outer coating of galvanized steel as the lightweight alloy used was found to be highly susceptible to damage, even being cut in half by some other blades, and enemy bullets would pass straight through: rendering the sword’s secondary use as a shield against enemy fire useless (The aim was the trooper hid behind the blade, reducing the areas in which he was likely to be hit). The 2nd production model was 10 kilos lighter than modified version, and this actually led to some of the mako-enhanced soldiers being able to twirl the huge blade. Nonetheless, the blade was retired in 1993 due to its weight.

Buster Sword Model Delta
Length:900mm
Weight: 30kg
Type: Stabbing sword

A long, pointed, blade, designed to stab rather than swipe. Far lighter than the Gamma, it is still in use and has in fact replaced it’s old rival.

Buster Sword Model Epsilon
Length:900mm
Weight: 30kg
Type: Slashing sword

A new experiment, most of the space behind the blade of the Epsilon model is Kevlar, with metal bands providing the cutting edge. So far, has proven relatively effective, but is yet to be issued to SOLDIER troopers as of September 1996.

CB-4 Combat Knife
Length:180mm
Weight: 0.70kg
Type: Knife

A Bayonet/Combat knife combination, issued as of 1990.

S-18 Sword
Length:480mm
Weight: 9kg
Type: Sword

A short sword issued to infantry on the day of their recruitment. Mostly ceremonial, few troopers ever use it for anything but a paperweight or on their dress uniform.

Rifles
NOTE: All effective ranges can be altered with scopes, as the range is calculated by accuracy with the standard sights.
Army Assault Rifle-10 (AAR-10)
Weapon Length: 750mm
Barrel Length : 450mm
Magazine capacity : 30 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 5.50x40 mm
Rate of fire : 300 rounds per minute.
Effective Range: 300 meters

An effective combat rifle, the AAR-10 features Bipods on models not equipped to receive the underslung G(A)-3 auxiliary grenade launcher, or a MkIV Underslung auxiliary shotgun. It’s support weapon match is the GPMG-2, which uses the same calibre of ammunition and even the same auxiliary weapons for some paratrooper variants.

Army Assault Carbine-10 (AAC-10)
Weapon Length: 500mm with solid stock/stock open, 400mm with stock closed/no stock.
Barrel Length : 290mm
Magazine capacity : 30 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 5.50x40 mm
Rate of fire : 300 rounds per minute.
Effective Range: 200 meters

A Shorter barrelled rifle, either with a solid stock, or a folding stock.

Army Dual-Role Sniper Rifle-1 (ADR/SR1)
Weapon Length: 900mm
Barrel Length : 750mm
Magazine capacity : 15/30 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 5.50x40 mm OR .48 Antimaterial
Rate of fire : 60 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 1000/1500 meters (Note: used with highest quality scope available)

The Shinra standard sniper rifle, available apparently in two calibres but really in both: the modification of the weapon from 5.50 to .48 Antimaterial is performed merely by five minutes internal work. The .48 rounds are available as solid, hollow point, full metal jacket, flechette and explosive. All are capable of causing severe trauma to the target if it is living, and all but the latter two can blast through up to 25mm of steel. The last round does the same, but explodes after halting within the target (if indeed it actually stops!).

Sub-Machine Guns
NOTE: All effective ranges can be altered with scopes, as the range is calculated by accuracy with the standard sights.
Submachinegun-5 Police/Military (SMG-5 P/M)
Weapon Length: 450mm with stock retracted/600mm with stock extended.
Barrel Length : 220mm
Magazine capacity : 60 rounds (SOLDIER model)/ 30 Rounds (Police model)
Ammunition calibre : 5.0x35 mm (SOLDIER model), 9x19 (Police model)
Rate of fire : 800 rounds per minute.
Effective Range: 100 meters

Famously used by police and army entry teams, the relatively short weapon length of this firearm make it ideal for a close-quarters engagement. It’s Army model is generally calibrated to take the special 5x35 AP round, whilst police models are equipped for standard 9x19 pistol rounds. The SOLDIER model uses a special type of magazine, with rounds at the bottom of the magazine well curving back up in a u-shape, giving the gun its large capacity. To prevent the likelihood of jams, an electromagnetic feeding system is used in these magazines, powered by a rechargeable battery housed inside the magazine., which can last for around three magazine loads. However, this means each magazine costs around 250 Gil. Police models use a conventional double-stacked, thinner, and cheaper, magazine. It’s in-built torch is also useable as a foregrip handle when pulled down.

Submachinegun Defensive Weapon 2 (SMG DW2)
Weapon Length: 260mm with stock retracted/450mm with stock open
Barrel Length : 165mm
Magazine capacity : 15/35
Ammunition calibre : .22
Rate of fire : 1000 rounds per minute.
Effective Range: 25 meters

A .22 SMG made for personal defence, cheap and easy to manufacture. It’s light recoil makes up for the fact it has very little use over 25 meters. Most commonly given to bodyguards or Snipers as a backup weapon.

Pistols
NOTE: All effective ranges can be altered with scopes, as the range is calculated by accuracy with the standard sights.
Shinra Handgun 9x19 Model Four(9mm M4)
Weapon Length: 180mm
Barrel Length : 105mm
Magazine capacity : 16
Ammunition calibre : 9mm
Rate of fire : Approx 100 rounds per minute.
Effective Range: 15 meters

Shinra Handgun 9x19 Model Four Subcompact (9mm M4S)
Weapon Length: 100mm
Barrel Length : 40mm
Magazine capacity : 6
Ammunition calibre : 9mm
Rate of fire : Approx 100 rounds per minute.
Effective Range: 5 meters

A 9x19 pistol introduced in 1985 for Police and Army units, replacing the old .40 M3 with a gun with twice its capacity. It is popular with police forces and home defence enthusiasts. Also available in a ‘Subcompact’ size allowing it’s use by federal agents and Shinra investigators such as the Turks and Midgarian National Investigative Police.

Shinra Handgun .45 Model Five (.45 M5)
Weapon Length: 170mm
Barrel Length : 100mm
Magazine capacity : 10 rounds
Ammunition calibre : .45
Rate of fire : Approx 100 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 15 meters

Introduced in 1982 but strangely not given a code until 1990 , this powerful and accurate handgun is used by police and army entry teams and Special Forces rather than the 9x19 M4 pistol carried by ordinary army units and police. Its only drawback is it’s small capacity magazine, but its sheer power makes up for this: Where it would need a double-tap to first crack and then penetrate Army body armour with 9x19, a .45 can smash the armour apart on the first shot. Due to be phased out in preference for the M6A pistol, a 5x35 pistol, with double and a half the ammunition capacity and all the benefits in penetrative power.

Shinra Handgun 5x35 Model Six-A (5mm M6A)
Weapon Length: 170mm
Barrel Length : 110mm
Magazine capacity : 25 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 5.0x35
Rate of fire : Approx 100 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 30 meters

A new handgun made to replace the Model Five, and also match the SMG-5 for SOLDIER use. Largely untried, it’s few users so far often cite its large capacity and penetrative power as proving the pistol a worthy replacement of the popular M5.

Auxillary and Heavy Weapons
Mk III Combat shotgun (Mk III shotgun)
Weapon Length: 400mm with stock closed/ 550mm with stock open.
Barrel Length : 350mm
Magazine capacity : 7 shells
Gauge : 12 gauge
Rate of fire : pump action: approx 60 rounds per minute, Semi-automatic, approx 65 rounds per minute
Effective Range: varies by ammunition type.

Used by Police entry teams (as Police are not permitted access to Carbines able to accept any underslung weapon) and also by some soldiers as a third combat weapon. It is a useful tool, especially for close quarters combat.

Grenade (Auxilliary)-3 Underslung Grenade Launcher (GA3-UGL)
Weapon Length: 300mm
Barrel Length : 250mm
Magazine capacity : 1
Grenade Types : 30mm Fragmentation, Smoke, AP, Shotgun, Stun, Beanbag.
Rate of fire : n/a
Effective Range: Up to 250 meters.

An unusual weapon as it is not manufactured by the Shinra: its is instead made by Midgar Dynamic Aerospace . It is a useful tool, due to its wide variety of grenades useable, and is issued as a support weapon to one in five soldiers

Mk IV Underslung Auxiliary Shotgun (MkIV UAS)
Weapon Length: 350mm
Barrel Length : 250mm
Magazine capacity : 5
Gauge : 12
Rate of fire : approx 60 rounds per minute.
Effective Range: 8 meters.

More often seen on carbines used by some entry teams, this shotgun is mostly designed for door breaching, but also can be loaded with beanbag rounds to subdue a target, or for an assault.

General Purpose Machine Gun -2 (GPMG-2)
Weapon Length: 850mm
Barrel Length : 650mm
Magazine capacity : 250 per belt.
Ammunition calibre : 5.50x40 mm
Rate of fire : 1200 rounds per minute.
Effective Range: 650 meters.

Standard Squad Automatic Weapon, issued to infantry squads for use as a support machinegun to one in five soldiers as of 1986. A reliable weapon, with a good rate of fire and fairly long effective range.

Heavy Machine Gun-5 (HMG-5)
Weapon Length: 800mm.
Barrel Length : 720mm.
Magazine capacity : 200 per belt.
Ammunition calibre : .50
Rate of fire : 250 rounds per minute.
Effective Range: 1000 meters.

Used on Tanks and APC’s, this HMG is still a powerful weapon despite being developed in the last century. Slower firing than it’s modern “replacements” it’s staying power lies in its sheer penetrative kick. The .50 rounds it fires can tear apart light vehicles and infantry with ease.

Rotary Cannon HMG-6/7 (RCHMG-6/7)
Weapon Length: 750mm(helicopter 5.50 version)/1200mm (Aircraft nose version)
Barrel Length : 500mm/1000mm.
Magazine capacity : 75000/20000.
Ammunition calibre : 5.50x40mm/20x50mm
Rate of fire : 7500 rounds per minute.
Effective Range: 1000/1750 meters.

A deadly weapon, mounted on Helicopters and armoured fighting vehicles, it’s sheer rate of fire is its deadliest feature. The 20mm explosive version used on fighter aircraft and helicopter gunships can tear apart medium-armoured vehicles with sustained fire, and has been known to destroy buildings. Targets simply disintegrate under the wall of lead hurled at them, with 125 rounds spat out a second. To cool the barrel, a battery powered rotation system is used, with eight barrels. This means a barrel fires and cools before seeing another round. If this were not done, the barrels would melt as they were superheated by the continuous fire.

Light Antitank Rocket -80 (LATR-80)
Weapon Length: 500mm prepared to fire, 350mm safe.
Barrel Length : 500mm
Magazine capacity : 1 shot launcher.
Ammunition calibre : 45mm AT rocket.
Rate of fire : 1 shot launcher
Effective Range: 600 meters

Nicknamed the ‘Later’ by soldiers due to its ID code, this antitank weapon is issued to one in two troopers. An effective weapon to eliminate light vehicles, buildings, and massed enemy troops, it can even eliminate some armoured tanks if it strikes a weak point. The issuing of Antitank weaponry is a controversial issue, with some arguing they are not needed: no enemy of the Shinra today uses tanks. Others point out that Wutai, as part of its surrender agreement in the Third World War (1985-91) retained half its surviving tanks and military equipment whilst demobbing its forces and leaving only defensive militias.

Grenades
NOTE: Most grenades with a 30mm type have similar effectiveness. If a 30mm variant of the grenade is available for 30mm launchers, this is indicated by a ‘*’.
Fragmentation Mark 4*
Weight: 0.90kg
Blast Radius: 1 meter flash, 25 meter shrapnel

These devices are issued to all infantrymen, and are valuable tools, more often used to eliminate dug-in foes or force the enemy to seek cover. A trooper is usually issued a choice of 8 grenades per mission, and most soldiers will select at least four frag.

Stun Mark 3*
Weight: 0.90kg
Blast Radius: Affects targets by noise and flash. Effective up to 50 meters in building, effective up to 25 meters in open.

These grenades are able to concuss an enemy target, and as such are highly useful for keeping the target alive.

Smoke Mark 5*
Weight: 0.95kg
Blast Radius: Emits smoke over a 20m² area.

Used to provide semi-cover for troops.

Gas Mark 2*
Weight: 0.95kg
Blast Radius: Emits gas over a 20m² area.

Contianing numerous types of gas, Gas grenades are usually used in non-military roles by police forces, but are sometimes used by infantry to cause panic amongst the enemy

EMP Mark 1
Weight: 1kg
Blast Radius: 25-50 meter pulse

A new development, this small device uses a shard of ‘bolt’ materia in a miniature materia bomb. Detonation releases an Electromagnetic Pulse, able to knock out unshielded electrical equipment and hardware over the range of the pulse.

Antitank Mark 2
Weight: 1.5kg
Blast Radius: Approx 20 centimetre blast, highly concentrated.

An unusual grenade in that it has magnets upon 5 of the cube-shaped casings sides, and a pull-handle in the bottom section. The cotter pin is removed from the handle, after the magnet has been clamped onto the target, and the handle is then removed, igniting the fuse. Upon detonation, thin metal (around an inch thick) can be penetrated, and the blast is able to eliminate tanks or doors if palced in the correct areas. Not actually designed for throwing, nonetheless if it gets inside a tank or an area with highly combustable/explosive materials, it can be deadly.

It was still pretty interesting, though maybe you should put the corespondning class the weapons go with, like the different Enemies in the game. I thought I could place a few of the weapons with the enemies, which I assume you based this off of, although maybe I'm crazy too.

Very interesting. I thought that it was very cool how you went into every little detail for every weapon.

A few non-shinra ones now. These have been sitting around for a while actually, so haven't all been done in the last day or so. No grenades, or close combat weapons, as those are pretty much self-explaintory and can't really be much different from the ones already mentioned. smile.gif

Common firearms used by anti-shinra forces, and other police/militia units outside Midgar.

Rifles
Nibelheim Bullpup (Lockair NBR-1)
Weapon Length: 550mm
Barrel Length : 450mm
Magazine capacity : 30 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 5.50x40 mm
Rate of fire : 350 rounds per minutes
Effective Range: 400 meters

A militia weapon made by Lockair Armaments of Nibelheim. A high quality accurate weapon, reputed to be copied by the Shinra for its next generation Army rifle. It is an expensive weapon, mounting a scope in its carry handle, but with good accuracy and a long range.

Simple Assembly Army Combat Carbine-1 (SAACC-1)
Weapon Length: 500mm with stock open, 400mm with stock closed
Barrel Length : 250mm
Magazine capacity : 20/30/50 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 7.20x35mm
Rate of fire : 180 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 200 meters

Made by Army Combat, a Cosmo company. The guns are machine-manufactured, and assembled via machine also. They have few complex moving parts and are made of sheet metal. Due to the cheap manufacture, the rifles are cheap to purchase: a mere 350 Gil. However, they are largely inaccurate over long ranges and have a poor rate of fire. However, with a low possibility of jamming and a minimum of training to use and field strip, they are nonetheless a popular weapon with Militias. Modified versions are common, either to take different calibres of ammunition, or made more accurate.

Wutai Combat Rifle-60 (WCR-60)
Weapon Length: 810mm
Barrel Length : 415mm
Magazine capacity : 30/120 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 6.20x30mm
Rate of fire : 600 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 275 meters

Wutai’s standard rifle until the 1980s. A fairly bulky weapon , it has a straight magazine. With the addition of a 120 round drum magazine and a Bipod, the combat support weapon 61 is created. The two weapons are not different in any real way, so the CSW61 is merely regarded as an alternate CR60

Wutai Combat Rifle-82 (WCR-82)
Weapon Length: 800mm
Barrel Length : 430mm
Magazine capacity : 30/75 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 7.70x35mm
Rate of fire : 750 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 300meters

Wutai Combat Support Weapon-82 (WCSW-82)
Weapon Length: 900mm
Barrel Length : 530mm
Magazine capacity : 30/75 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 7.70x35mm
Rate of fire : 850 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 1000meters

Wutai’s standard rifle from 1982 onwards, a lighter more accurate weapon using the 7.70mm bullet. It’s support weapon version has a longer barrel , far longer range and a faster rate of fire.

Shinra Army Combat Rifle-5 (ACR5)
Weapon Length: 900mm
Barrel Length : 600mm
Magazine capacity : 8rounds
Ammunition calibre : 7.20x60 mm
Rate of fire : Approx 60 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 350 meters

Issued to soldiers following the end of the 1930’s first world war, it was replaced by Midgar by 1942 with the semi-automatic variant, the ACR-6. It remained in use by Icicle, and is now a popular hunting rifle. It is regarded as the last Bolt-Action rifle used as a standard small arms weapon, and is still used by Militias, and also as a sniper rifle.

Shinra Army Combat Rifle-6(ACR6)
Weapon Length: 900mm
Barrel Length : 600mm
Magazine capacity : 15rounds
Ammunition calibre : 7.20x60 mm
Rate of fire : Approx 100 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 300 meters

The Semi-automatic AC-5 version. Loses some accuracy over range, but features a far larger magazine. Used almost identically to the ACR-5.

Shinra Army Combat Rifle-7 OR Army Assault Rifle1/7 (ACR7/AAR-1/AAR-7)
Weapon Length: 1000mm
Barrel Length : 600mm
Magazine capacity : 20 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 7.20x60 mm
Rate of fire : 120 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 250 meters

Issued from 1964, this rifle is still popular with Militias , collectors, and home defence enthusiasts. Accurate enough, but somewhat lacking in its rate of fire.
Special Note: The replacement for the ACR-7 was the AAR-10, in 1978.

Junon Armouries Rifle-93 (JAR-93)
Weapon Length: 760mm
Barrel Length : 450mm
Magazine capacity : 25/30 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 5.50x40 mm
Rate of fire : 1000 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 400 meters

Junon’s offering for a new army weapon, an accurate and long ranged rifle. It is prone to jamming according to some users, however.

Sub-Machine Guns
Personal Defence Weapon-1 Army Combat (PDW-1AC)
Weapon Length: 300mm
Barrel Length : 280mm
Magazine capacity : 60 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 4.5x38mm
Rate of fire : 1000 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 250 meters

Army Combat’s most modern firearm, an effort to replace the SMG DW2. It is not only short and accurate, but uses a far more damaging round than the .22 of it’s older Shinra rival. However, it is not adopted by any Shinra units, only some police forces and federal polices.

Simple Assembly Army Combat SMG 1 (SAACSMG1)
Weapon Length: 500mm
Barrel Length : 250mm
Magazine capacity : 30
Ammunition calibre : 9x19mm
Rate of fire : 200 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 75 metres

A similar SMG to the carbine , it has made itself popular worldwide due to the incredibly cheap cost and simple manufacture: it is estimated that thousands of copies are made for use by Mafia soldiers in Costa Del Sol.

Icicle Combat Industries -2 (ICI2)
Weapon Length: 500mm
Barrel Length : 350mm
Magazine capacity : 35 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 9x19mm
Rate of fire : 900 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 175 meters

Micro-ICI
Weapon Length: 300mm
Barrel Length : 150mm
Magazine capacity : 35rounds
Ammunition calibre : 9x19mm
Rate of fire : 900 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 75 metres

A submachine gun made by an Icicle corporation that is a subsidiary of the Shinra. It entered manufacture in 1987, and is said to be an accurate weapon. It’s clip is loaded in like that of an automatic pistol, similar to DW2 and Cobra-One (see below).

The ‘Micro’ version has a wire stock and a far shorter barrel. It is pistol-sized, presumably as another rival to the DW2.

Junon Armouries Anti-Armour Assault Pistol (J4AP)
Weapon Length: 450mm stock open, 300 mm stock closed
Barrel Length : 280mm
Magazine capacity : 25 or 50 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 5.2x40mm
Rate of fire : 1200 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 150 meters

A very modern weapon, only developed in the early 1990’s. Using Junon’s equivalent of the 5.0x40 round, it incorporates a built-in torch and a laser sight hidden in its foregrip handle, and idea copied from the older Corel Arms Cobra-One. Loads like an automatic pistol.

Corel Arms Cobra-One
Weapon Length: 550mm stock open, 450 mm stock closed
Barrel Length : 420mm
Magazine capacity : 30 or 15 rounds (9mm/.45)
Ammunition calibre : 9x19/.45
Rate of fire : 1200 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 180 meters

This SMG was once the most technologically advanced and most expensive in the world, and was once carried by Corel’s SOLDIER unit. It has a built-in torch above it’s for grip handle, with a laser sight in the handle itself. Very accurate and available in two calibres.

Lockair Entry SMG-2
Weapon Length: 600mm
Barrel Length : 200mm
Magazine capacity : 30 rounds
Ammunition calibre : 9x19mm
Rate of fire : 700 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 100meters

A Nibelheim made Submachine gun, very similar to the SMG-5 Police.

Condor Mark One (M-One)
Weapon Length: 500mm with stock open/300mm with stock closed
Barrel Length : 280mm
Magazine capacity : 60
Ammunition calibre : 8x15mm
Rate of fire : 1500 rounds per minute
Effective Range: 300 meters

A very unusual SMG. Its ammuniton is fed from a ‘helical’ magazine loaded in the foregrip, but the magazine makes UP the foregrip. Carries 60 rounds in the magazine, and is a fairly short weapon, making it a useful CQB tool. Has an immense rate of fire.

Icicle Army Weapon 2 (AKA Shinra SMG-2)
Weapon Length: 450mm
Barrel Length : 200mm
Magazine capacity : 15
Ammunition calibre : 9x19mm
