I've been looking around the web for a complete set of FFVI character sprites. Since I've found none, I've decided to make a set of my own. The set isn't complete yet, but it will be soon. All that I have finished so far can be found in this file:

ff6sprites.zip
Click to download.

So far, the set only includes 13 of the 14 main playable characters (Mog is not finished yet due to technical difficulties.) Hopefully, I will be able to add Kefka, Leo, Ghost, Banon, etc. in the near future.

You may be wondering why this is in "Site Submissions". It is my hope that (when completed) the set can be added to the main site in CoN's FFVI 'download' section.

Comment/criticise on them. Please report sprite mistakes, such as incompleteness in the set, or a wrong color in the pic, etc.

Much thanks to Fraudulent Tommah for hosting.

Nice Job, I wouldn't have the patience to spend all that time to crop them and stuff. (assuming thats what you did laugh.gif) Hoping to see the other ones you were talking about soon.

Those are perfect. Did you use the sprite editor to get those? What I've always wanted to do is create a FFVI sprite set with super eagle filtering, as seen in the popular SNES emulators. In order to do that I'd have to snap screenshots of them all doing their various expressions on a one colored background and that's impossible. Here's what the sprites look like with the filtering (compare this to my avatar):

For regular FFVI graphics that's a very nice set.

Yes, a sprite editor was used. FF3 SE is what it was called, I think. There's a page with all 38 sprites for eachcharacter, that you can edit, along with an extra slot (usually blank) and a tent slot. I took a screenshot of the whole page of a single character, cut them out one by one, named them (probably the longest task), and then gave them transparent backgrounds. Each character takes roughly 45 minutes to complete. Yes, I have plenty of spare time on my hands. I did all these in about a week.

I've never seen Eagle Filtering. Which emulators have it?

Yeah I highly recommend super eagle filtering. ZSNES and Snes9x has it. When I get home from work I'll post what I think the optimum settings are for ZSNES since that's what you use.

I also have FF3 SE which is what I use for all my monster editing along with making all those images for the new "Name That Monster!" thread in the FFVI forum.

One problem: the colours aren't clean. If you zoom in very closely, you can see dither patterns in some areas. I have a zoomed image which shows this compared to our avatar version:

user posted image

So whatever program/method you're using to reduce the colour depth, I suggest you change the options (use Optimised Octree and no error diffusion for Paint Shop Pro, if that's it). When the image is cleanly coloured, it should be possible to reduce every sprite to a 16-colour image rather than 256-colour, which will save masses of space over a big collection like this.

I can't see these being a CoN download until that is fixed, at least. It'd also be a plus to have them enlarged at 2x instead of 3x to match our current sprites as used in the actual section. But nice work, other than that.

3x? 2x? I've used sprites a lot in the past, and I've always tried to get them at original size... though that's easy enough to scale down, granted. Also, I would second the thing about colors; it is rather annoying when you think you've found a set of sprites you can use, only to find that they arn't really 16bit, and you have to recolor them.

When this gets done, it is definitly something I will download, if the color thing is fixed... 1x would be nice, but that doesn't really matter.

Does anyone know if I can clean them (like Tiddles suggested) all at one time? I'm sure I could do what he suggested to one or a few, but we're talking hundreds here. So please, someone, tell me some way I can clean these.

And I still need to rip Mog's sprites from the game...

If you only have the versions that already have dither patterns, I don't know of any easy way to clean them, even one by one. If you have original, non-dithered images, you could probably use Photoshop scripting or something similar, but I'm not familiar with any of that.
