In the cave on the veldt in the WoR, there is this guy who talks about a fearsome dragon that lives in a forest to the north (the place with the dinosaurs most likely). Does anyone know what he's talking about?

Could it be that Final Fantasy 6 has a super hard side boss like almost all the other FF games? (Shinryuu, that dragon in FF4

that gives you the crystal sword
, Emerald and Ruby WEAPON, Ozma, Omega WEAPON)

Is it the brachosaur? It is a pretty fearsome "dragon."

Or is it the pathetically weak (at least to me) tyrannosaur? I sure hope not.

I'm fairly certain he's speaking of the Tyranousaur. The Tyranosaur is a much more common battle, and to him, it would have been fearsome.

That's just waht I think, though. It's probably just a piece of dialog to get you to go to Dinosaur Forest.

Uhh...Figaro, no offence but I think I disagree with you...

You see, I think it IS the Brachosaur. I agree that the Tyrannosaur would've been considered fearsone to him, but I also noticed he also said this about it:-"To increase your chances of meeting him, try having less people in your party." Implying that it's hard to meet, but the Tyrannosaur appears just as often no matter how many people you have. I'm not sure if the situation's the same for the Brachosaur, though.

However, he also said this:- " What a relief if we would be finally rid of the monster!" This means that you can only fight and kill it once. I'm not sure about you guys, but I've killed the Brachosaur twice already.

So what do you people think?

I'm pretty sure that refers to Gau.

As for the dinosaurs, I think he's referring to the Brachosaur, for the simple reason that it's the hardest non-boss in the game. He's dangling some bait to get you to go meet up with Mr. Longneck.

Yes there is some confusion with the word dragon referring to the dinosaur Brachosaur in the forest. I don't believe there is a Japanese word for dinosaur, just dragon. The english word dinosaur was coined in the mid-1800's, whereas before that they were referred to as dragons. So it's basically one of those translation issues of incompatibility, although it's perfectly alright to use the word dragon when talking about a dinosaur.

I played a direct translation version and the character dialog was actually Dragon'S with an s . So i assume he means the random encounters you meet in the forest. As opposed to A single dragon. So ya know.

You cannot get a Crystal sword nor a Gold Hairpin from Brachosaur. In fact, no monster has a Gold Hairpin to Steal or Win.

It has a rare Steal, Ribbon
You can Metamorph it into a Dried Meat
And it has a rare Win/Drop, Economizer

Gold Hairpin may be Found in Narshe instead of Mog from LoneWolf, in Mt Zozo, and in the Ancient Castle.

You can bet a Crystal Orb, Dragon Horn or Ribbon in the Colosseum to get one.

Those are the only ways to get a Gold Hairpin, other than glitches or hacking.

It's clear that he's referring to the north forest dragons. They are stronger than any other random monster in the game. Here's the exact quote:

Quote
In a forest north of the Veldt dwells a frightful dragon. I suppose no human could ever defeat it...but oh, how free we would be if someone could...

There is no Czar Dragon in any forest as he doesn't exist in the game, and even if he did he has no battle script (he would just do battle (or fight) over and over). I agree that the dragons were weenies. If you want something to fix that wait another week or two. smile.gif

It's quite possible that the quote refers to the Czar Dragon, but the dragon was taken out of the game (or never coded in), while the quote was accidentally left in.

In response to Rangers51's edit:

I couldn't remember the name of that dragon from final fantasy 4, so I specified which dragon I meant by saying what he gave you when you beat him. It was just a way of identifying him.

I thought it was the Brachosaur when I was playing but kind of half-believed it.

It seems strange to me that the Japanese don't use the word dinosaur seeing as it was taken from Greek to be the universal term, and tons of the scientific names have the root "saur", like Apatasaurus, Elasmasaurus, Parasauralophus.

And as I have said before, there is no such thing as a perfect translation. Translation is an art, not a science, and two people will not translate the same sentence the exact same way, especially with a translation from Japanese to English. So you really just look like a dummy when you claim to answer the question beyond all doubt.

And even if it is translated to dragons plural (note the lack of apostrophe error in my sentence, too), that doesn't necessarily mean Brachosaurs and Tyrannosaurs. It could just mean multiple Brachosaurs.

The finality of that quote by the guy in the cave really makes it seem like he's referring to something bigger than any random monster, I wouldn't be surprised if the Czar Dragon theory is correct.

By the way, are you guys sure that Czar has no attached text? In the Rumors section of this site, I thought something was attributed to him(in the truth section of the Czar Dragon rumor of course).

Yes! The quote exist! But, if you read the Czar Dragon battle script, you notice that he just attacks over and over without doing anything else. Maybe the EV2 of i90east will include " [...] I am Czar... prepare yourselves!" quote.

I'm pretty sure he refers to the Tyrannosaurs and the Brachosaurs when he speaks of the "fearsome dragons". However, if I never heard of Brachosaurs, I would've thought he only referred to Tyrannosaurs because so far, I haven't fought a single Brachosaur yet even though I've fought tons of Tyrannosaurs! I'm not sure what's wrong with my ROM, since it seems like a glitchless ROM (neither the Relm Sketch glitch nor the Psycho Cyan glitch works).
