is it just me or does anyone think it would have been cool if FF6 has a job system (like FF5) i mean in the sense that you can change the character's jobs... cuz they have jobs but you can't change them
terra - black mage celes - white mage locke - thief strago - blue mage relm - ???? sabin - monk gau - monster trainer, caller setzer - ???? shadow - ninja, samurai umaro - berserker gogo - mimic cyan - knight edgar - ??? mog - dancer i would have loved to make setzer a knight, or a thief... and if anyone knows the jobs of the people plz say also with your opinion -------------------- ~ A Hero Is Someone Who Stands When Their Legs Are Gone~ |

The Japanese version actually did have classes for each character, but they weren't all exactly the same as previous Final Fantasy classes:
Terra - Magic Warrior Locke - Adventurer Edgar - Machinist Sabin - Monk Celes - Rune Knight Shadow - Assassin Cyan - Samurai Gau - Wild Boy Setzer - Gambler Mog - Moglie Strago - Blue Mage Relm - Pictomancer Umaro - Sasquatch Gogo - Copycat Banon - Priest Leo - Shogun (very cool ![]() Biggs - Low-Ranking Imperial Soldier Wedge - Low-Ranking Imperial Soldier Your guesses are very good, though. In terms of my opinion, I absolutely love the FF job system (FF3, FF5 and FFX-2), but I feel the game is great the way it is. They've made it interesting in giving everyone a class and their own special ability, and I guess with so many characters, changing your party around is similar to changing classes. As a side note, I have noticed that FF6 seemed to set the standard for the newer games (7+). Set characters with set classes, and being able to change them around at any time after a certain point. You know, I'm kind of disappointed that there was never a 32-bit sprite-based Final Fantasy game... -------------------- --sbq92 <>< |

I don't think that Terra is a black mage nor Celes a white mage. I think that they are mage with elemental-oriented magic (i don't think if you can say this in English, but...), because they two have black and white magics. I think Edgar is a engineer because of his tools, but he looks like a paladin. A king, with a lance, that defend people, for the justice, doesn't remember someone? I can't remember, but... I'm sure that a wellknown paladin had once been like that
![]() Terra - Fire-elemental mage Celes - Ice-elemental mage/ Knight Relm - Painter Setzer - Gambler Egdar - Paladin / Engineer For Relm and Setzer, it's seems just too obvious for me. That's my opinion. But I'm pretty sure that's there already a official list of jobs for FFVI characters, am I right? -------------------- «À l'aventure compagnons, je suis parti vers l'horizon! I'm definitely a fan of FF5's job system, but I think that would be cumbersome for a plot-heavy game like FF6 (at least heavier than FF5). When there's 12-14 characters, it would seem superfluous if they could all change classes. If they could all be any class (like the 4 from FF5), people would be tempted to only use and develop 4 of the 12-14.

I think that they wanted you to use all the charecters. If they had let you change jobs, then you probably would have picked the four that looked coolest, and then trained them to be good in everything, and never used the others. Also, certain charecters wouldn't be half as good if they had to conform to specific jobs; Edgar is a perfect example, as he has traits from many different classes. As for specific job titles, I think that Gambler is the coolest and most original job title out there.

Right, character uniqueness is definately the theme to FF6. Every character's abilities fit in perfectly with the roles they play in the story. These abilities also define who they are. One of the things FF6 does better than any other FF is provide unique abilities for every character. In no other game do you have Morph, Tools, Blitz, Runic, Swdtech, Leap/Rage, Dance or Sketch. Maybe in the other games that variety isn't there because there arn't as many characters as FF6. That's such a cool aspect of the game so I think it's fine the way it is.

I liked the subtle job class...I always thought of Srago as a blue mage anyway. But I preferd the uniquness of the FF 6 characters to any other game and I have yet to see its enginuity in any other game and I hope to in 12

Berserker - FF5 I think that's all, although I know Blitz sort of shows up as Zell's Limit Break in FF8. Okay here is what I think:
Terra: Red Mage Locke: Thief Edgar: Dragoon/ Gadgeteer (FFTA) Sabin: Monk / Fighter Shadow: Ninja Cyan: Samauri Gau: Ragist Celes: Red Mage Setzer: Gambler Strago: Blue Mage Relm: Painter Mog: Dancer/ Dragoon Umaro: Sasquetch Gogo: Mimic |

srry for the misunderstanding... but the classes that i personally mentioned are the classes from FF5 that the ff6 characters would be in...
i chose terra as a black mage because she has the dark colored clothes and white mage for celes because she has the white clothes... now as you guys mention it i guess edgar would be a dragoon... (in a sense Also SBQ92 ur not too far off from the names (or maybe you just have a differant source) but these are the classes mentioned in a FAQ at GAMEFAQS (and i have changed the names to the english for better understanding) Terra Magic Warrior Locke Adventurer Edgar Machinery Sabin Monk Shadow Assassin Cyan Samurai Gau Wild Boy Celes Rune Knight Mog Moglie Setzer Gambler Stragus Blue Mage Relm Pictomancer Gogo Mimic Umaro Snow Man Banon Priest Leo Great General Biggs Imperial Soldier Wedge Imperial Soldier -------------------- ~ A Hero Is Someone Who Stands When Their Legs Are Gone~ |

Yeah, my source is different from the one on GameFaqs. That one is incomplete, and I needed a full translation, so I Googled and found a great one. I can't say mine's a better translation, but I do prefer it. I mean, Edgar as Machinery just doesn't seem to make sense, but Machinist seems more accurate. And Snow Man as opposed to Sasquatch... I don't know.
But, if you want FF5 classes carried over into FF6, here are my best guesses: Terra - Knight (with a Magic ability equipped) Locke - Thief Edgar - Knight/Dragon Knight Sabin - Monk Shadow - Ninja Cyan - Samurai Gau - Monster Trainer Celes - Knight (with a Magic ability equipped) Mog - Dancer Setzer - Archer (It's a stretch... He has projectiles...) Stragus - Blue Mage Relm - ???? (I don't think there's anything from FF5... Maybe a mage of some sort...?) Gogo - Mimic Umaro - Berserker Banon - White Mage Leo - Knight Biggs - Knight Wedge - Knight A lot of people become Knights due to the heavy equipment factor, and Edgar would probably be considered a Knight rather than a Dragon Knight because he doesn't Jump without Dragon Knight's Boots (DragoonBoots). -------------------- --sbq92 <>< |

True, FF games have been establishing character-types based on class, and I agree with most of what you guys have been saying.
Relm - Mostly like a trainer even though she's a painter. Sabin - Yes a monk, also like Tifa. Setzer - Gambler, like Cait Sith. I'm also on the side that puts Cyan as a samurai, Edgar as a lancer and machinist, and Leo as a sorcerer/magic knight. There's also a quasi-knight kind of category for smaller fighters, and that's where I'd put Biggs and Wedge, along with Tidus. -------------------- Get me off this Disciplinary Committee so I can play any FF except for FF8!!! |

Here's what I think they are:
Terra: mage-fighter (something like a Red Mage who's trained at physical combat), or mage and knight Locke: thie---err, treasure hunter ![]() Edgar: engineer Sabin: martial artist (aka "monk") Shadow: ninja (I've heard the discussion before about "assassin") Cyan: samurai Gau: wild child/monster imitator (a new character class) Celes: rune (mage) knight Setzer: gambler (yet another new character class) Mog: dancer and geomancer Strago: lore expert (aka "blue mage") Relm: FFV "meditator" (to some extent) and pictomancer (another new character class) Umaro: berserker Gogo: mimic Banon: "priest" was the suggestion of one of my friends Leo: knight (his occupation was "general") Vicks, Wedge, and the rest of the Moogles are probably just fighters. Ghost: spirit/ghost (another new character class) -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Due to FFVI's excess of magic, you really need to base jobs off of their uniqe skills, or unique weapon (If any).
Terra - Mutant (I'm thinking like those GB FFs) Locke - Theif Edgar - Engineer Sabin - Monk Shadow - Ninja Celes - Knight Cyan - Samurai Gau - He's kind of like a Blue Mage, Berserker, and Mediator all in one. Setzer - Gambler Strago - Blue Mage Relm - Trainer/Mediator Mog - Dancer+Geomancer Umaro - Berserker Gogo - Mime -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

What jobs do you think, from the other FF games, do the characters in FFVI have? This is what I think:
Terra: Red Mage (can naturally use all magic and equip swords and armor) Celes: Red Mage (same as Terra) Locke: Thief Cyan: Warrior Sabin: Monk Edgar: Dragoon (can use spears...) Shadow: Ninja Setzer: Lady Luck (LOL, I mean Gambler) Gau: Beastmaster Relm: Black Mage Strago: Blue Mage Mog: Geomancer Gogo: Mimic Umaro: Berserker Moderator Edit I think this topic is really pretty close to an old one. So I'll merge them together. -R51 This post has been edited by Rangers51 on 16th May 2004 14:16 |

I think Gau could also be considered a blue mage seeing as his whole character is learning the attacks of monsters.

Well, Gau does use the special attacks of monsters. However, his is a special case, since rather than simply use spells, he goes berserk and mimics one type monster specifically for the rest of the fight. So, I guess you could speciallize his class, calling him a Berserker Mimic, or a Blue Mage Berserker.
Otherwise, everyone's pretty much covered everything else. -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |
