"Doom Gaze moves to a random location on the World Map every time you get on or off the airship. While you're flying around Doom Gaze stays in the same location. Although it's location is random, Doom Gaze always stays still while you're flying, so in order to ensure that you find Doom Gaze, you need to cover the entire map."

I've been flying around the WoR in the Falcon for some time now, and Doom Gaze still hasnt turned up! I'm all set though, I've got Setzer, Locke, Celes and Gogo (all with Ultima and two with X-Zone, although I want Bahamut), but he won't attack me!

Try aiming your airship directly north, south, east or west, then slighty tap the left or right directional button so you're not perfectly heading in one of those directions but almost. This way when you cruise forward and cross the map several times, your ship will be slightly positioned more to the left or right than on your last pass. Just cruise going straight until you've covered the entire map. You can check your heading on the mini map.

This is not a perfect method for covering the whole map but it's pretty close. If you tried going north/south and got nothing, try east/west. That should cover every possible doom gaze location.

The encounter rate for Doom Gaze is theorically 0.

Doom Gaze sits on the same spot while you're flying around and never moves. If you're not actively hunting for him, you could go through the game without ever running into him. Your best bet is to just keep flying and to explore as many locations as you can; sooner or later you'll cross paths with him.

It helps if you do your Doom Gaze hunting while doing other sidequests. Beating him in one sitting, unless your party is well-powered, is unlikely and you'll probably have to fight him a few times before getting the best of him.

Thanks for all your hints. I took i90east's advice and hit Doom Gaze after about five minutes, just west of Jidoor. Killed him first time! Fairly proud. Apparently X-Zone kills him outright, am I right? I just kept smacking away and he went down eventually. It helps not to have any characters on lvl multiples of 5 or Lvl.5 Doom hurts.
And I got Bahamut, which is no bad thing.

X-zone can kill him, but if you do, he WON`T give you the bahamut magicite ,best bet is vanish/doom.

Yeah I'd heard that he wont give you Bahamut, so I didnt risk using X-Zone. I just had my normal rota of Ultima's coupled with the occasional Vanish. Also, why does he turn pink if you cast Cure on him? Is that just a pointles joke, coz pink Doom Gaze does look pretty funny. biggrin.gif

He turns pink when you cast cure on him? Didn't know that (but apparently, someone else also thought that Doom Gaze was undead).

About X-Zone: I've heard that you don't lose the Bahamut magicite when you use X-Zone. Rather, what happens is that Doom Gaze's HP is reset to its max HP, and you have to find him and deal with him all over again at some other point on the map. (Could one of our resident forum techies/rom-hackers such as Master ZED or Detah confirm that?)

No. The bahamut cut scene is triggered by doom gaze's death animation. If you kill doom gaze with x-zone, it prevents his death animation from happening, and you don't get bahamut. The battle isn't reset because he's dead.

Edit: I'm pretty sure this is what I've read from zed in the past, anyways.

The turning pink thing might just be a glitch in my game that triggers a palette switch or something from the cure animation, I don't know. Still its funny though, I'll try and get a pic of it.
