Hey I'm still fairly new to FFT and I have just gotten my first Bard. I was wondering if the stats are permenant or if they just last for the one battle? Also will party members leave if their faith or brave is to high? How does that happen and how can it be avoided? Thank you for your time.

OK, first things first, the stats : the Bard can raise the Speed, PA and MA via his songs (and via MA Save as a reaction ability). None of these stats can be permanently raised, other than by leveling up. But the Bard has the Faith Up ability, wich leads us to our second point.
Brave and Faith can be permanently change : whenever one of these stats change by 4 points (either up or down) it is permanently change by 1 point. Here are the abilities that can be used to that effect : Cheer Up, Scream, Brave Up (Dancer only), Praise, Theaten, Chicken, Foxbird and the Ahriman's Look of Fright for Brave; Preach, Solution and Faith Up (Bard only) for Faith. A character can leave your party when he ends the battle either with a very low Brave (below 6) or a very high Faith (over 94). Note that these values are taking into account after the battle : if a character with a Brave of 30 is lowered to 5 during the battle, he will only permanently lose 25/4=6.25 points, wich is rounded down to 6, so he ends the battle with a Brave of 24, thus doesn't leave the party. So basically, you can raise your Brave to the max 97 (wich makes almost every Reaction ability you equip have a 97% efficiency), or lower your Faith to the minimum of 3 (the only interest being that this character will resist to every spell in the game, including the Cure spell...). Other than that, you just have to be careful when raising Faith (if you need a high Faith, the safest road is giving your character the Faith status, as it gives you a virtual Faith of 100 but doesn't change your stats in any way) or lowering Brave (my advice is to lower it to 10 in battle, wich gives you a probability of finding the rare item through Move Find Item of 90%, wich is IMO high enough). I hope this lengthy explanation cleared it out for you. By the way, welcome to CoN ![]() |
