I dug through the forum's topics dating back to the launch of CoN 5 and could find no single instance of such a thread.  Because I wasn't around for CoN 3 and CoN 4 and all that stuff, it may have existed back then, but at any rate, here it is.  The Anime Thread.

And now the purpose of this thread:  What anime shows do you like/watch?

Me?  I watch/like these:

• Inu Yasha : Soup/Avalon got me addicted to this one.  It happened one fateful night in chat...heck, I may even have it logged (though I doubt it), but this one has really grown on me.  I love the characters, the plot, and the gratuitous humor and action throughout the show.  It's even given me two more favorite villains:  Sesshomaru and Naraku.

• .hack//SIGN : Possibly my second favorite, as it's the only other show besides Inu Yasha that I really just push myself away from the computer, set an away message or quit chat altogether, turn up the volume, and pay complete attention to the characters' every word.  ^_^  Although there's not much action to the anime, it's the brilliant characters and plot that keep me hooked on this one.  Each show is a cliffhanger that leaves me wanting for more...much more.

• Kikaider : I like this one.  As with most shows/movies that I like, the characters and plot are solid.

• Rurouni Kenshin : I've only just recently gotten into this one, but I already like the characters and the storyline; they're beautiful, just beautiful.  This is probably my third favorite anime series.

• Cowboy Bebop : I was really liking this one until Cartoon Network pulled the plug on it.  The characters and plot were brilliant.  It irked me a bit when it went off the air, because I had only gotten one single episode on tape.  ;-;  And that one was the second episode that I had ever watched of it.  >.<

• Trigun : The same here as for Cowboy Bebop.  I was able to get in three episodes of it before it was pulled, but only one on tape.  (It has since been overwritten by a couple of Kenshin episodes. >_> )

Edit
I should add that this should extend to television series only, not anime films.  Adding movies would probably just make this thread go really long.  >_>  I guess if staff thinks movies can be included, then I can edit mine in later.

...

I hate it when I do stuff and don't realize until later on that I should have done it another way.  >.<

Inu Yasha This show is flat out amazing. I have yet to see anything that has been done before within this series. This is the best anime.
Sesshomaru rules over all.

Rurouni Kenshin Only thing wrong with this one is I have no idea where the first word came from. This has got to be the first anime I have seen that isn't a stretch from reality.

Yu Yu Hakusho COMPLETELY freaked me out when the so-called "Anime Fans" in CoNChat haven't even heard of this. And: Darn you Cartoon Network for moving this to Toonami! Move it back to Adult Swim! It just shows how much of a delinquent the main character is.

Trigun I'm just going to say this: It's always the one you least suspect.

Cowboy Bebop this one was kind of nice for a while (except the intro) until I saw it too many times. WAY over-ran

.hack//SIGN Anime for gamers! Only outside thing I've seen that even recognizes video games. Music captures you, too.

Kikaider Kinda weird, but OK

And probably every other Anime ever shown on Cartoon Network.

For some reason, I think this one was MADE for you...
I have to say that, sadly enough, I have also seen this. I think the six or so I saw were the exact same episode, with the bad guy changed.
What really bothers me about this is that the leader of the billion-times savior of the planet is a total ditz.

My guess would be that the "Anime Fans" don't marry themselves to Cartoon Network for their anime, since Cartoon Network is not the beginning and the end of all anime viewing.

Anyway, the only anime I have watched all the way through is Cowboy Bebop, which was masterful. I might stop being lazy someday and watch Excel Saga, Chobits, .hack, Hellsing, and BGC, since they come highly recommended from various friends. But odds are I won't.

Don't blame Cartoon Network's strangeness for problems with Cowboy Bebop, either.  It's a fantastic series.  Maybe CN repeated it over too much, but so much the better if it gets to a wider audience (and even then, it looks like Zephir was unlucky).  I'm sure they weren't expecting you to watch it over and over again.

It's only 26 episodes, yeah.  That's a good thing.  They told the story they wanted to tell, and that was it.  If you've seen the ending, you'll know it wouldn't be worthwhile making episodes to continue on after that point.  Unlike certain series which just go on, and on, and on... yeah, you know what I mean.

I've only seen a few series.  Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Bubblegum Crisis, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 and Serial Experiments Lain, I've seen all through.  They were all good in their own special way.  I'm too lazy to formulate longer opinions than that.  I've also seen the feature Vampire Hunter D, and a few episodes of Slayers.

Generally at the time of year when I would want to spend my time watching Anime, I'm on dialup, and the rest of the year I get busy, so I don't see much.

I see Slayers every once in a while on the International Channel I got (subbed no less), and despite it's anime cliche's, it's gotta pretty witty sense of humor, so it's starting to grow on me.

My fave tv series would have to be Eva and Esca.  Cowboy Bebop would also be up there, prolly third, but Eddie's my favorite anime character of all time so that evens out.  Truth be told, I haven't seen a lot of series, and I'm fairly picky.  I like Inu-Yasha though.

And I don't know if this counts, but I'll include it just in.  FLCL also known as Furi Kuri or Fooly Cooly.  One of those off the wall animes.

The two series that I'm really into right now are Excel Saga and dot.hack//SIGN.  Both are completely different, but I like them all the same.  Excel Saga's appeal is just the humor. While I love the art in dot.hack.  There are others that I watch(ed), but these two are my favorites by far.

I have the entire Excel Saga series (26 episodes) and the first dot.hack DVD.  (I have the complete series on my computer, but I want to collect the complete series of this one too).  Why do DVDs have to be so expensive? ;-;

Well I'm not really big on anime or anything, but I used to watch Dragon Ball/Z/GT (I don't care if it "sucks", I used to like it back in the day) and some Cowboy Bebop. Also this one that I think might be called Trigun or something.

o crud excel saga sucks :)

but i reccomend highly hellsing, .hack, and bgc (2040) -- altho bgc gets a lil wierd in the end.  other anime i reccommend that u can buy in usa are boogiepop phantom, noir, kenshin, saiyuki and of course eva.  among many others that surely slipped my mind :)  but, if you liked CB you should like all of those -- cb is my favourite anime and i like all of those a lot.

i see also a lot of people talking about slayers -- that's a great series too.  lil cutesy sometimes but that's the idea

It's not about Cartoon Network. I was surprised because it was so popular and well-known before it even got to that channel

I'm watching two right now, one called Naruto about a world of Ninjas. It's really good, it follows a group of ninjas who just graduated (and are still teens) as they go up the ranks. Lots of action, adventure, humour, romance, and nifty ninja stuff ^-^

The other one, I forget the exact Japanese but it translates to Bluer then Indigo. I think it's something like Aoi Yori Aoshi. I'm only three episodes in, but it seems to be a romantic comedy (with more emphasis on romance) about kids who knew each other when they were little, then find each other again years later, after a lot of trauma has happened to one in particular.

I'm also sort of watching Excel Saga, but I've only seen the first episode, so I can hardly say I'm watching it. May as well say I'm also watching DNAngel and Gravitation, two others in which I've only seen the first episode.

I've seen more anime then I can usefully list here ^-^ Some of my longstanding favourites are Ranma 1/2, Cowboy Bebop, Tenchi Muyo!, NGE, and .hack//sign.

Oh, in responce to Tidu-who (or any who would respond to him) let it be known now that there is no specific-anime-bashing allowed in this thread. We all have our own tastes, and there's a lot of different anime out there.

I got my bro into anime years ago...he liked it too much...so I don't like it as much as I used to but...

Inu Yasha-I don't really need explain

Yu Yu Hakusho-this one is great.  If you're down here in the thread you already know why I like this.

Excel saga-just saw like 4 episodes.  But it cracked me up like a slightly watered down Family Guy.

Trigun-just saw one episodes (damn you Cartoon network!!!)
But I instantly loved it.  I saw this episode where this wierd girl with a eyething duel the protagonist.  It had style and made me crack up.

Cowboy Bebop-duh.  Great story and awesome characters.  and some great ending zingers.

DBZ is a living cliche and it should be taken off the air...and put back one Trigun or Cowboy bebop.

But the most interesting thing here is that I've seen almost all of the animes mentioned in this thread...and I dislike anime in general.

Ah, geez.  Here goes:

Ranma 1/2:  This is what got me heavily into anime.  This show is just awesome (not to mention hilarious).  Inu-Yasha fans:  Ranma was created by the same person as IY.

Cowboy Bebop:  What is there not to like?  Great characters, great stories, AWESOME music.  And Gren...*sigh*....

Sailor Moon:  (NO ONE LAUGH!)  This is my all-time favorite anime.  Yeah, so it was meant for girls, but I have an excuse.  And Sailor Uranus is one of the coolest anime characters of all time.

Evangelion:  Heh heh.... this show is....  different.  Makes you think.  (interesting side note:  my devout Catholic friend Elijah LOVES this show)

Escaflowne:  Just....cool.  And Folken's SEXY.

Hmm... I'm not very good at describing things.  Oh well, bite me.

I haven't seen all that much, but I'd swear by either one of the L.I.'s.  True, they are complete opposites, but that's kinda the idea.  When I want to laugh, I don't want to think, and vice versa.

Want to see NGE, but haven't...yet.

As an aside, I watched an ep of Kikaider tonight because I couldn't find anything else on. What a strange show. I suppose the storyline, what I could make of it, had some promise, but I didn't like the art style. I probably won't watch again.

Only anime I've watched all the way through was Excel Saga, which I enjoyed immensely.  I thought it was pretty funny how ridiculously airheaded Excel could be...she just didn't ever get it.  And the (I think this is the name) Daiken Rangers or whatever were GREAT.

I don't remember which one I actually watched.  There was a short series that followed Parn and Deedlit and those guys, and I really enjoyed that, but then it ended after about seven episodes and started with some kid named Spark or something, and I got really bored with it and just stopped.  I love the theme, still, though.

That throws alot of people as well. You should have seen the humans who had the colors of their pupils and the whites of their eyes inverted.
The story line is weird. Even when you see it from the beginning, but it is very difficult to follow if you come in the middle.

Ooo...  Anime is good stuff.

Yu-Yu-Hakensho.   I first saw this on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network... I don't know what about it appealed to me, but I love it!  The show is amazing!  If I had a job, I'll be saving up for the boxed set.

Final Fantasy Unlimited:  Now, while it wasn't the best Anime series... I do own the first 25 episodes (Not sure if there are more, only 25 I could find)... on my computer....  Shhh... Don't tell....    I liked it.  It was a fairly good series... not to complex, or long...

Edit:  Nm, missed something on the original post, asked if we were doing movies too.  = \

Well due to my disgusting lack of Cable TV, I don't have a whole lot of access to Anime on the TV. The Anime that I do watch comes from long, boring downloads on KaZaA. But it's all the same in the end. :p

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Confusing and strange at times, but still good none-the-less.

Slayers: Funny, filled with action. What's not to like?

Cowboy Bebop: Who doesn't like Cowboy Bebop? ^_^

Anime.. <3 <3 <3
The only anime that I myself have seen every episode of, would be the Loddoss TV and OAV series, Magic Knight Rayearth (both seasons...<3) and... That's probably it.. *L*
I like Sailor Moon, but not as much as I used to. I <3 Rayearth, and I <3 Loddoss, and I want to finish watching Excel Saga, and see more Ranma ½. <3

It's kind of funny how many guys like Inu Yasha. That's a girly show. It's like a romance thing. OHOHOHO!
Lesse... those who hunt elves is really funny, and so is Lost Universe. I like Lain, but I have to see past the first DVD.
UTENA!!! How could I not mention Utena yet?! OMG! This show kicks arse! It's about a pink haired tomboy who duels and stuff. <3 It's great! I'm in the middle of the second season, out of four seasons. <3 <3 <3
I'm a retard. :D

* A sucker for a good (emphasis on good) romance story.  ^_^

Plus it's hilarious, the characters are beautifully developed, the plot is quality stuff, and the action isn't half bad.  Come to think of it, it's actually one of the few movies/shows/etc. that have come closest to being fully rounded out well in all categories. O_O

But's that just my personal opinion. ;)

Zephir pretty much covered it all, but yes, Inu Yasha is a well rounded out show. It's a little bit of everything, not just a romance.

Figures I miss the anime topic while I'm away.  I know it comes awfully close to annoying, but my ego demands I post.  ^_^

Cowboy Bebop - Probably my favorite.  It's got all the sci-fi/western/martial arts action you need.  The visuals are breathtaking, the music is fantastic, the characters are deep and loveable, and the ending is easily one of my favorite endings for any series, period.  Spike is probably my favorite anime protagonist ever, to boot.
Ranma 1/2 - An oft-stated classic that I just had to mention.  I love Ranma 1/2 and all its zany, wacky characters and off-the-wall plots.  It's inspired some really great (and really awful) fanfiction, too.  Perhaps its greatest asset, however, is Ukyo.  (Fanboy senses tingling!)
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam - My favorite series out of all Gundam.  It has cool mecha designs, a fine plot, and superb characters, not to mention Char Aznable as a good guy.  Sweet.
Trigun - I'm actually not a fan of the anime, simply because Nightow's manga is about 1,000,000 times better.  Still, the anime is partially patterned after the manga, so it has to be mentioned.  (The ending of Trigun, however, is near-unforgivable.  Couldn't they have waited just a little longer?)
Rurouni Kenshin - Another anime that must be mentioned solely on the quality of the manga.  Watsuki's art is absolutely beautiful, and some fraction of it does make it into the anime.  Sano and Hiko stand as two of my favorite anime characters ever.
Great Teacher Onizuka - It's kind of odd to mention this on a "favorites" list, but I realize that I truly enjoy this series.  The premise is ridiculous, and yet somehow the whole thing works out beautifully.  It's a shame the dub is so poor; David Lucas (a.k.a. Spike Spiegel) is one of my favorite English voice actors.

Since i'm in France, there's a lot of shows you guys can watch on  TV that i can't...so most of my favorite anime are from renting, buying and borrowing VHS and DVD that may not be available in USA.

This i think would explain the fact that i'm the first to talk about "Serial Experiments Lain" : great show with awesome ambience, kind reminded me of Twin Peaks sometimes...maybe the english title is "hack//signs" (anyone can confirm that, please?)

Other than that, "Cowboy Bebop", "Evangelion", "Lodoss War", all great shows that i've seen and enjoyed in one session ...and every anime that i saw in my childhood such as "Saint Seya", "Robotech", "Ranma 1/2", "DBZ", and some others wich i can't figure out the name in english (Kimagure Orange Road anyone?).

I guess since a lot of people are talking about it, i've got to see "Trigun"...

Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Bubblegum Crisis, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 and Serial Experiments Lain, I've seen all through.

Lain is absolutely not the same series as .hack//sign.
