So I started another file yesterday and I just did the Narshe thing where you have to protect Tritoch from Kefka. What were your parties?

I ask this because I made some pretty good parties today.

1 - Edgar, Locke, Cyan. Brute force, Edgar uses autocrossbow, and Cyan with a Genji Glove does a lot of damage.

2 - Terra and Gau. The best party for taking down soldiers. Gau's Hazer rage casted Bolt 2 and basically destroyed everyone, while Terra used Fire and healed.

3 - Celes and Sabin. Sabin's Aurabolt and Celes' Ice were powerful and Celes could heal.

The 1st party took out Kefka, while each party was well-balanced (the best balanced parties I've made in 7 years). They all easily won their battles. The only problem was that there was no outstanding party. Party 1 was definitely the strongest, but only because it had 3 members. But usually, I specifically make 1 party stronger to kill Kefka. That was not the case today, but whatever. When I made 1 strong party I had trouble with the normal battles anyways.

PS, my characters were around lv. 11-13. I'm trying not to level them up too early so I can give them esper bonuses down the line.

1st Party: Locke, Edgar, Celes, and Cyan. Locke attacks and steals, Edgar uses crossbow, Celes attacks and uses Runic once I get to Kefka, and Cyan just uses Swordtech.

2nd Party: Terra, Sabin

3rd Party: Gau (poor boy all alone  :shakeshead: )

The 2nd and 3rd Parties basically just stay back and protect Banon but none of the soldiers get that far anyway.

I usually just have Terra, Edgar, Sabin (sand sometimes Celes) burn though all the enemy units (yeah, all of 'em :) ), whille the rest twiddle their thumbs until Kefka turns tail and runs.   :E

Edgar + Bio Blaster= One Man Wrecking Crew. :) Enough said.  I send him on his own, then stick Sabin, Cyan, Terra, and Gau in a party to go decimate everything after Edgar's taken care of all the four-soldier groups.  Celes and Locke aren't bad as backup, either.

I put
1.  Edgar and terra in one group.  And run them down as quick as possible to congest half of the troop movements, and use that group to kill boss at end.  Gotta love bio.
2.  Cyan and Gau.
3.  Celes, Locke, and Sabin.  2 and 3 are just used to clean up the leftovers.

Hum well...I used to team up Sabin and Cyan, Edgar and Celes, and Locke, Terra and Gau, but later prefered to team up Locke along with Celes and Edgar  :E and left Terra and Gau protect Banon, Sabin and Cyan were in charge of the Test Rider and Locke, Celes and Edgar were in charge of Kefka

My groups usually ended up being Terra and Celes in the group (pretty much always), escorted by Sabin/Edgar/Cyan.  Gau, Locke, Cyan and Edgar were the leftovers usually and went into two groups of one and two.  These two tiny groups stood around Banon and normally didn't see action.

I preferred to send the one full party out to kill every single one of the enemy parties, then take on Kefka and Test Rider.  It usually isn't much of a fight once I get to Kefka.  ^_^

I prefer the divide an conquer method. I run three groups and cut off all the openings so no one can pass.

1. Celes and Sabin
2. Terra, Locke, and Gau
3. Edgar and Cyan

1-Terra

2-Celes, Locke

3-Edgar, Sabin, Cyan, Gau

I think those were the only characters you could use then. If not they either go in party 1 or 2.

Party 1 died instantly, dont ask me why I did it like that, I just did. Celes and Locke took down some soldiers. But they died after a few battles. Party 3 just stormed everything down, including the last Rider dude and Kefka himself.

I got to Kefka with the first one before anyone else got in any battles.

The first time I did that section, I guess I must have misread, or skipped-over the part about changing parties.  I just thought the first party you made would be the one you fought with, so I had the best party (in my opinion) placed in the first slot.  The other two would remain where they were, just in case, to protect Banon.

Edgar (Tools), Terra (Magic), Sabin (Blitz), Celes (Magic)

I kicked some serious soldier tail, but it wasn't until later that I realized you could actually switch parties.

2 Sabin (powerhouse); Gau (Various powers)

3 Cyan (Truly powerful); Celes (magic!); Locke (er...he's with Celes)

i found the best teams were the ones that square gave--  locke and celes as one team, mostly as backup; terra's scenario club cleaning house wherever it wanted; sabin, cyan, gau acting essentially as the ultimate hitmen.  You can't go wrong with sabin in all his gengi glove/black belt/blitzes glory, gau casting fire2 at will, and cyan.  that's probably the most fun part of the entire game.

Left Side - Cyan and Edgar.  This team is good for beating up things pointlessly.  Cyan's Retort is the quickest way to take out those Heavy Armors.

Right Side - Terra and Gau.  I call this Team Burn Things because that's what they do.  Templar Rage is fun!

Center - Locke, Sabin and Celes.  Once again, mindless destruction of enemy forces with AuraBolt.  This team is the one I use against Kefka, because Celes can Runic the heck out of his magic.

Usually, it doesn't matter which team takes on the Rider, because he's going to die any way.

I usually leave Locke and/or Cyan to fend Bannon Then just use the others in a random party to kill Kefka

I put Edgar and Gau together, because Edgar's bio blaster can take out a whole group of soldiers (from the back row), and Gau's magitek armor rage has a powerful attack and will put him in safe status.  Then I had Cyan and Terra together, and then Celes, Sabin and Locke in another group.

The first time I did this part, I had (1) Terra, Edgar  (2)Celes, Sabin, Cyan  (3) Gau, Locke.  For some reason, I thought Terra had enough magic to kill Kefka, but Team 1 died pretty quickly against him.  So I restructured the team:  (1) Cyan, Edgar, Sabin  (2) Terra, Locke  (3) Gau, Celes.  Team 1 tore Kefka apart like a piece of paper because Sabin had Fire Dance/Aurabolt, Cyan had QuadraSlam, and Edgar had crossbow/bioblaster, but Kefka was kiiled using only aurabolt and quadraslam.

For me, it never really mattered how I put my characters, that battle isn't too hard at all. But I believe I mostly use Edgar, Sabin & Cyan in one group; Locke & Terra in one group; and Celes & Gau in the final group. Guess which group that acts as the main force?

I mix it up each time I play, but my parties the most recent time were something like this:

Edgar and Celes, because Edgar attacks everyone (autocrossbow or bio blast) and Celes heals;

Sabin and Terra, because Sabin attack everyone (fire dance) and Terra heals;

The rest of the schmucks, because I don't like any of them.

I intended to have the largest group of people go whoop it up on Kefka, but it worked out that Edgar and Celes killed all of the random guys running around and were still in tip-top shape, so I just let them do it.  That turned out to be a mistake, because he kept killing Celes and I kept wasting time reviving her.  I think that fight is generally easier with three people instead of two, regardless of who they are, simply because you have more actions per each action of Kefka's.

Latest runthrough, I had a Terra/Celes taking on Kefka...a lot tougher than it looks!  This was for "storyline" reasons, because it was my SEL rename effort.  Celes was the healer/absorber, Terra was the whoopin' stick.  Took me a few tries to get his attack pattern (with a usual L/S/C he dies before I can see the whole thing), but once I did, it was rebooting time.

Sigh... My three-party army of death consists of:

Sabin and Cyan: These guys both hit hard and last long. Plus sometimes it's fun to play without magic... (Okay okay... Fire Dance is sorta' similar to magic)

Edgar and Terra: Terra's just there for the support. Basically, it's all about Edgar and his Bio Blaster. They waste Troops easily. Equip Edgar with a Mithril Pike and Shield (yes, you CAN have it that early in the game), and he's a formidable opponent.

Celes, Locke, and Gau: Celes is the artillery support and the magic absorber when fighting Kefka. Locke is the handyman who can fight adequately well, but I mostly use him for giving people Potions because of his high speed. (I usually have Running Shoes on him, too) Gau is the main cannon, using his Stray Cat rage with the Catscratch attack (4x damage!).

I like to make the game interesting, so I have everyone take out relatively the same amount of troops, and then have a final showdown against Kefka.
