Some crazed villain is trying to destroy the world. It's up to you to save it, but you can only travel in a group of four people. What three Final Fantasy characters do you take with you on your quest and why? For variety's sake, try not to pick all three from the same game.

Well, if I ignore stats and bring by coolness it would be Cyan (Physical attacks), Tellah (Magic) and Galuf (Everything!).

Beatrix (9), as an all-purpose healer/stock breaker. Irvine (8), as a sharpshooter, and Palom(4), for black magic.

It would be nice to see these three characters interact, too. It would be something like this.

Irvine: Hey babe, want to have some fun?
Beatrix: *facepalm, then stabs him*
Palom: Geez. Why are adults so pigheaded?

Great topic. I'm going to assume it would be RPG like and you and your gang would get more powerful over time, as you do in any RPG.

For me, it would be the following

Rosa from FFIV: Powerful White Mage, ability to use bows decently, eye candy.

Hawk from Seiken Densetsu 3: Nightblade Path (Dark/Dark). Starts out strong, with theiving skills. Gets even stronger and is one of the most powerful by the end (IMO), with ninja powers, and powerful attack abilities.

Will/Freedan/Shadow from Illusion of Gaia: The kid doesn't start out very strong, but has Telekinesis. Aquires his new forms over the story and gets more powerful by the end.

Edit: Grrr, I guess I should read more carefully. He specified Final Fantasy characters. The problem would be I'd choose Rydia and Yang, both from FFIV. I will need some more time to think about this then.....

Squall from ff viii - junctioning would be an immense help, his limits kill pretty much anything that moves, and he would know a lot of useful information on surviving, being a star student and all

Ramza from ff tactics- the variety he'd be capable of with jobs out weighs anyone else, save for cid but he'd make the journey not fun. Bartz has the same thing, but Ramza is cooler

Celes from ff vi - i would need a person who could be a healer more than a fighter, but still fight if it came down to it. i never really liked any other healer/fighters as much as her

Yeah, that's alright. I only specified it for the sake of keeping the parties mostly recognizable to the people of this board. It's good that you're able to make your decision from such a wide range of characters. Of course, I'd still like to see what party you come up with within the FF parameters.

Anyway, I guess now that a few people have posted, I should probably post my party.

I'd recruit Tifa because she's my favorite martial artist from any FF.
Celes would be my mage because she isn't made of glass like many other mages, and has a handy built-in MP regeneration ability.
Rikku would be my third recruit because she'd take care of all my mechanical needs (like transportation) and double as my thief.
The entire party would be very easy on the eyes as well.

I like the variety of parties people are coming up with.

Yea, that was my bad.

My refined list will have to be as follows.

Rosa from FFIV: My white mage, decent attack power with the bow.

Quistis from FFVIII: Blue magic, plus the ability to draw any other magic she may need.

Auron from FFX: Despite how slow he is, he was my favorite character in the game. Hits like a truck, and is just all around bad ass.

In my party, I have the great and noble warriors of Final Fantasy:

Kain from FFIV

Cyan Garamonde from FFVI

Cloud Strife from FFVII

and myself, the Blitz Sage (powers based on Sabin's Blitz powers, but of course, sage level).

Yuna from Final Fantasy X - her summons, and the nature of how FF X summons work, make her the most powerful character in FF history. A maxed or near-maxed sphere grid is also pretty ridiculous. And also, I like a gender balance in my party.

Celes from Final Fantasy VI - she a woman that's strong, opinionated, and doesn't take **** from anyone. Definitely a different personality than Yuna. She also is a powerful magic user, a power anti-magic user (Runic), and a fighter capable of wielding most of the best and heaviest equipment available to her.

Barret from Final Fantasy VII - Barret is a badass mother****er with a gun on his hand that is no weakling in hand to hand either. That makes him powerful ranged physical damage, which this party lacks thus far. He's also incredibly protective of his friends and teammates, and definitely wouldn't let anything happen to our magic-using ladies.

laszlow from Caves of Narshe - laszlow has no magic abilities, but is wealth of information about pretty much everything, especially media, the environment, and wildlife. He probably isn't much of a fighter, but he'll do all the research, take care of the chocobos, and cast Libra all the time.

I would either have:

Edgar:For is all round usefullness in fear and such
Squall:For his high powered techs
Setzer:As my ship manager and all around cool character
And i would either have:The lunarian fusoya for his all around heal and attack,or maybe it would be golbez.

I like golbez alot more as a character.

Zidane (FFIX)
Zidane is essential in saving the world. Not only is he a powerful character in battle, but his influence and support over other members of the team is stronger than any other. His planning and leadership capabilities are second to none in the FF universe.

Yuna (FFX)
'Behind every great man is an even better woman.' She could probably save the world on her day off, but needs Zidane's leadership to spur her on, and can't make a plan to save herself either. Possible love story in the making.

Amarant (FFIX)
The other two are fine as a pair, so Amarant might seem a little bit redundant. However, I'm picking him for three important reasons. Firstly, his personality is great when next to Zidane, the banter will be good and he'll no doubt learn a lot about teamwork and all that stuff. Secondly, he's a mean fighter, and will work well alongside Zidane in protecting Yuna. Finally, and most importantly, he'll be one SICK PUPPY as a Final Aeon if it comes to that when saving the world - and it will.

Me (IRL)
Press release. The group's link to the world, communicating with them by Patronus. If anything important happens he'll pass it on to the public.

Note, spoilers!

Possible spoilers: highlight to view

Zidane (FFIX): He has immense physical power, speed and his Trance skills are very effective
And since he was designed to be stronger than Kuja, should he
ever fully tap into his genome strength then he would also have very immense magical capabilties

Terra (FFVI): Until Zidane taps into his potential Terra is buy far the most powerful (storyline wise) playable character in any Final Fantasy game
She's both immensely magically powered and immensely strong when in Esper form

Bartz (FFV): Bartz is fun, would keep us all entertained and has a good dynamic with Zidane
Him having all his jobs would mean he could fill in any gaps in our strengths that Zidane's melee and Terra's magical prowess leaves
Need more melee? Knight, Monk, Dragoon, Ninja, Samurai or Gladiator anyone?
Need magic? How about some Black Mage, White Mage, Blue Mage or Summoner?

Dark Paladin Danny (FFCoN): Would spend most of his time flirting with Bartz and desperately flailing a sword around

Ooh, I like this topic. The title seems to show that I am supposed to come along in the group, but I don't feel like I would be an immense help either physically or magically. Therefore...

Neal: Agility. If we're starting this journey at level 1, I'll be taking some speed training. It will serve me well as I escape from battles.

Sabin: Powerhouse. Every team needs one, and he's got tremendous strength and is a genuinely good guy as well. I don't think his personality would grate on a long journey. Amarant would be a good choice if not for this... There needs to be team chemistry!

Aeris: Defense and Magic. As long as she isn't gutted at some point in our journey, she'll be ridiculously useful. Her limit breaks are some of the most useful out there, and she's a great magic user, both offensively and defensively. Supremely useful, especially if you allow for her target-all limit breaks to affect four members instead of three.

Celes: A little lacking on the diversity, but I would also want to bring FF6's Celes to the team. She is strong both physically and magically and her runic skill is extremely useful. Plus, every good team needs a strategist - the Suikoden games always made me aware of this. As a general for the highly successful Empire, there's little doubt that she has a knack for tactics.

Shotgunnova: Handsome, debonair, sometimes witty, and always looking for a fight! While he can blow a juravis' head off at 300 yards, don't bother him with black maths, and certainly don't let him hold the wallet -- he'll spend 50,000 on something ridiculous. Maybe.

Gafgarion: Rude, obnoxious, but has survivability second to none, ol' Gaffy is sure to bring a lot of drama and interest when his hot head gets everyone in a heapin' helping of trouble. Luckily he can Night Sword his way out of any situation. He promises he won't double-cross you. Maybe.

Meliadoul: Strangely sexy swordswoman with a heart full of truth and a mind full of justice! Although little is known about her, she's probably got a lot of horrible repressed memories and will fall in love with SGN later on. Maybe.

Red XIII: Token awesome furry comrade. Although his battle prowess is quite formidable, he can also light campfires with his tail and catch forest foodstuffs (such as rabbits or minotaurs) like he's playin' fetch. And when everyone gets tired, he'll let everyone ride on his back. Heck, you can even call him Red Eight! Maybe.

That's probably smart, just stay behind cheering them on as they fight. Be the brains of the operation.

I'd have to work a lot on speed, lol, probably just buy a good suit of armor instead!

For Battle

Aeris FFVII:
(Healer)

She is a great healer, and has strong magic attacks. Her limit is very beneficial to the team.

Celes FFVI:
(Support)

Celes is very well rounded she could be and attacker a healer or could support the team with support magic (haste, protect, etc.). She has strong magic and attacks, is able to wear strong armor and her rune blade can buy time for the rest of the team for whatever reason.

Zidane FFIX:
(secondary attacker)

Has a strong attack with good defense and is fast. His haste spells is very useful for the rest of the team.

Auron FFX:
(main attacker)

He hits hard and takes awhile to take down... enough said.

For story

Vivi FFIX:

He would keep the team together with his innocense and his kind heart. Could potentially stand up and motivate everyone when the rest of the team is ready to give up.

Rikku FFX:

She is very kind hearted and would constantly be expressing that to the rest of the team. I guess whe would be the one saying the team cant do that because it's wrong which i think would be interesting next to Cid, and Shadow.

Shadow FFVI:
He is very calm and has a lot of knowledge. But he has a carefree attitude so I could see him giving advise but pushing the issue if the team doubts him which could put the team in a bad spot, and at that point he would probably try to leave the party. His calm attitude could be mistaken for being cold and I could see Rikku giving him **** for it and Cid putting his two cents in and ending up in a big fight.

Cid FFVII:

Similar to Rikku is a free spirit. Even though he has a kind heart he comes off as a ***hole which would be interesting situations with rikku who is the opposite>

You would be correct.

I like the trend BlitzSage started there of describing themselves in their parties so I'll go ahead and throw mine in.

El Panachino: Ninja who likes to use all kinds of melee weapons and throwing weapons. Leader of a sexy trio of adventurers. Who will the love interest be? I guess that's to be determined by their adventure.

Quoting The Cranberries: If everyone else's doing it, why can't I?

TK: Flamboyant duellist, wielding a rapier. With his fearsome one-liners and catchphrases (like "Let's dance with death", "Eat cold steel!" or even his personal favorite, "It's just been revoked"), he sows fear in his foes without even having to fight. In fact, he can't even use his sword - he kills his foes with his catchphrases. Or he lets his three friends do it for him.

He teaches Irvine how to pick up girls, outwits Palom and gives tactical advice to Beatrix.

He can also go Trance, One Winged Angel, and True TK, or at least he claims he can do it. Nobody ever seen him do that. On his own words, "I can do it anytime I want, I just don't feel like doing it right now. Maybe later."

He's been saying that since 1996.

My party would be:

Kain Highwind: Great physical fighter. Also, he's a BAMF.

Celes Chere: Strong both physically and magically. Runic comes in handy quite a bit, too.

Aeris Gainsborough: Healing magic is very helpful.

If NPC's can be included, I would choose General Leo Christophe. I love his sense of honour and civility.

As for myself: THE_MAN is a ninja, appearing and disappearing like smoke, quickly attacking from the shadows with his twin katanas. He can also use a fair amount of black magic, though not quite as well as a true magic user.

Trance Kuja: Kills stuff dead
Pre-insane Sephiroth: Kills stuff dead

You chose a pretty good team

Good thing you didn't choose shadow

He is way to unpredictable in when he will abandon you.

As for the nobility thing and honorable, yeah leo is a very honorable good person.

Cyan would be another one of those,as would edgar and cecil.

Messier17 (CoN): I'm pretty strong and fast from playing football (soccer) so that would be my strong point. I suppose I would have some okay magic given my intelligence. I guess my weak point would be vitality, I just can't take a hit. I mean sure I can take being hit in the face but we're talking about fighting monsters with swords for hands and probably lasers too so yeah.

Interceptor (FFVI): Every team needs a mascot right?

Celes (FFVI): Like everyone else has been saying she's a well rounded character. She can equip most every armor and weapon and she already has certain spells learned.

Barret (FFVII): Long range support without the whining *cough*final fantasy 8*cough*

Cecil (FFIV): When he's a paladin he has tremendous attack and white magic. He'd be great support as well as strong attack.

King (FFI): I'm assuming he has armies? Given it's the NES I have my doubts though, but I'll go ahead and take him. Natural selection will kill him off if he doesn't have any armies.

Aeris: Great Gospel is all I need from her, but she's also a more-than-capable spellcaster in general.

Yuna: Her summons are easily the most powerful Final Fantasy has ever seen, providing the party with much needed rest during long bouts.

Meliadoul: I'm taking the PSP stance where Meliadoul's swordskills cause damage regardless of whether or not her target is wearing armor; consequently, I'm handing her a Chantage and calling this a win. Great stats (especially in the ever-popular Melia-priest setup), the seldom-seen ability to destroy an enemy's equipment with 100% accuracy, and access to Chantage (and the added support of White Magic) make Meliadoul quite the boon.

Kane: Kane is a dabbler, having studied several forms of martial arts, familiarized himself with various classic and contemporary pieces of literature, blessed with a savant-esque grasp of arithmetic (for all you calculators out there), and perhaps most usefully, he can ramble on for considerable spaces of time, effectively eliminating any enemy from the action until said enemy can unravel the random junk emanating from him.

That's a pretty crazy party. What would you call yourselves?

Hey, put the cellphone down for a while
In the night there is something wild
Can you hear it breathing?
And hey, put the laptop down for a while
In the night there is something wild
I feel it, it's leaving me

We should call ourselves the UNstoppables. Nothing can stop us. Do you hear me? NOTHING CAN STOP US!

Yuna (FFX): White Magic and Aeons are a great combination.

Celes (FFVI): Great all-around magic, fighting capability, and party-wide magical defense with Runic.

Kain (FFIV): Hopefully the super-villian isn't fond of hypnosis. If so, hopefully it can be Runiced. Seriously, aside from plot complications what's not to love? You can't hit what you can't see, but what you can't see can kill you.

MeHael: He wields a staff in a defensive fighting style based on deflecting opponent's attacks and riposting instead of taking the fight to them. In the presence of such powerful warriors he's grateful they have the magic to keep them alive and tries to pick up some tips from them between battles.

I'm feelin' a bit of...

AURON! from FFX
For his badass, kickass, awesomeness factor.
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
The guy's already dead, and plus he knows pretty much everything.
He's a powerhouse, plus he's got strong defense and good health.

VINCENT! from FFVII
Another cool character, he's got the mysterious thing going. Plus I love his backstory: Vincent's got a little somethin' somethin' to be angry about! His distance attacks will come in handy and work well with Auron's offensive.

CYAN from FFVI
Cyan has that great sense of honor with a sad past that gives him strong motivation. Sort of serving as a secondary powerhouse, Cyan would also be stuck with the crap jobs, such as administering potions and casting haste.

... Who needs sorcerers (or girls, apparently... dry.gif ) when you have three awesome fighters?

DEATH PENALTY from Caves of Narshe
I'll go with the hand to hand combat (something I've actually done), counting on all the running and quickness programs I've been in to give me the agility I need to not die. I think pessimism and poor jokes are a strong completement to the rest of the party...

You should spell it like the Chicago Bulls did: the Unstoppabulls!

My team's named the Titans (for now)

#1 Titans fan, of course (we're gonna stomp on the Terrible Towl again Thursday night)

#2 The Titans challenged the gods in Greek Mythology

#3 We are bad@$$. Come on: Kain, Sir Cyan, Cloud, and the Sage of ancient power!

Haha, this is starting to remind me of the "my team" function in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. Come to think of it, I actually named my first MUA team Avalanche in honor of FF7 (and it's a pretty cool name).

Also, I like how a lot of people have Celes on their team. Gotta love Celes.

Wha? Thanks to me?
