I'm writing this for the people that are interested in purchasing one of these or for the curious. I've already covered The Complete in another topic, but here' it goes again for the sake of having all of them together.
I got them used from Amazon Japan, the price varies between 1Yen and 3,000Yen for the collectors ones. I've also seen them in places like E-bay and Yahoo auctions. There are no English versions that I know of. THE COMPLETE―ファイナルファンタジー6 ![]() Has characters bios, the basic stuff, weight, height, likes and dislikes. It also includes a list of abilities when it applies, like rages or lores. Besides the main characters there is also info for Banon, Leo, Kefka, Gestahl, Cid and our dear pal the Train Ghost. From here comes the info that Kekfa likes to play with dolls. Setzer And a complete visual walkthrough. Vector (I apologize for the blur in this one). Then there's this trio of books: ![]() ![]() ファイナルファンタジー6基礎知識編 Basic info (Setzer on the cover, Cyan on the back) Character bios. Unlike the previous book, this one is more battle oriented. Has initial stats and abilities. Strago (Blur in this one too). Weapons, armor and relics. Rods and Brushes ファイナルファンタジー6完全攻略編 Strategy (Edgar on the cover, Sabin on the back) Complete visual walktrough, includes a checklist and a bestiary. Ancient Castle Tips, like the Imp set up. Imp ファイナルファンタジー6設定資料編 Appendix (Terra on the cover, Locke on the back) Characters bios+ extra info in some cases. Very similar to The Complete, but without the abilities data. Cyan (Damn my shaky hands). World info. Time-lines and towns. Here it was!, what I've been looking for. That history of Figaro didn't come from The Complete but from here. The places it covers include Narshe, Figaro, South Figaro, Mt. Kolts and Doma, each one with an aerial view and their respective time-line. It also has data on the Blackjack and Chocobos. Figaro Something I found funny from this last book is that it treats Celes like “other character†the same as Gau and Relm. But Cyan, Shadow and Setzer are considered “mainsâ€. At first I through it was because of the default recruitment order, but then why does Setzer gets special treatment? Hell, even Mog has more info than Celes. EDIT! UPDATE! Here's something at the request of MagitekElite: From The Complete: Terra Edgar Umm, the photos ARE blurry, I'm going to try to find a way to scan them. This is awesome except for the fact that I can't read Japanese.
So that makes them useless to me. ![]() -------------------- //www.rpgmaker.net/ We make games. Period. |

But more than that, I'm always hearing rumors about backstories and extra data that didn't make it to the game. Some of that info resulted to be fake, so I wanted to be sure and also know the source of these claims, kinda like a research. The books aren't expensive per se, and it's nice having them. -------------------- "Love, and do what you will" Saint Augustine |

Man I'd love to have that book. Why doesn't Square understand that if they translated that even today we'd all buy it?

Sometimes I feel that SE thinks the majority of their fans don't care about anything before FFVII and I don't blame them. Even if they decide to translate it, discrepancies are bound to happen. Look at Terra´s data, English guides say she's 5'7" (1.70 m) and 105 lb (48 kg) while the Japanese guides put her at the same weight but with 10cm less. Which makes Terra underweight according to the BMI and Tina is borderline healthy. Aside from the previous useless random facts, I think that a fan translation would be awesome. -------------------- "Love, and do what you will" Saint Augustine |

Quote (Jasoncw @ 26th July 2009 22:00) lol, how many of Amano's characters do you think have healthy BMIs? Only because you asked. (I'm too lazy to check if there's more differences between the versions, but the few I bothered with seem to be the same except for Terra). Terra 16.6/ Tina 18.7 Locke 21.9 Edgar 23 Sabin 29.4 Shadow 20.8 Cyan 22.7 Gau 18.8 Celes 19.6 Setzer 20.2 Strago 18.9 Relm 17.1 Mog 28.9 Gogo 21.8 Umaro 45.3 Underweight: Less than 18.5 Normal: 18.5 - 24.9 Overweight: 25.0 - 29.9 Obese: Greater than 30.0 The BMI doesn't work well with children, so don't worry about Relm. I suppose it doesn't count for moogles and yetis either. And we all know Sabin's extra mass goes to his “lifting houses musclesâ€... or was it the ghost food? Lookie, Kefka is underweight (17.2), maybe all he wanted was a sandwich ![]() -------------------- "Love, and do what you will" Saint Augustine |

That's pretty interesting, the characters are basically normal.
I remember Amano's characters being really skinny, but I'm looking back at the art now and they're fuller than I remember. Btw, those are beautiful looking books. |

I remember Amano's characters being really skinny, but I'm looking back at the art now and they're fuller than I remember. Well, I guess Amano isn't the one that decides that kinda stuff. The writers imagine how a character is supposed to look like, then the designer works his magic with the description provided. Of course, sometimes Amano takes his liberties, like blonds Tifa and Garnet. From what I know, Nomura did Shadow's and Setzer's first concept sketches and Soraya Saga did Edgar's and Sabin's. Amano based his art in those. In Saga's case she also wrote the Figaros' backsories and all their dialog, dunno how much Nomura got involved with the other two. But I agree with you in a way. Amano's stylish art makes some characters look frail. I'm going more for the pale skin than the actual body build. Quote (Messier17 ) Poor kefka, although destroying the world is a bit of an over-reaction eh? Well, Gestahl left Kefka in a prison cell while he was having a banquet with the Returners. I would be angry too. >_> -------------------- "Love, and do what you will" Saint Augustine |

They were in Narshe at the time. Hehe, don't feel bad.
The page next to Terra is Locke's info. Characters that have more variation in their skill-set like Tools or Blitz get more pages to list each one, Gau has four pages for example. Guess what? Got some scans (although I couldn't get all of it without hurting the book, but I think the most important info is in there). These books seem to be the FFVI goldmine. I really hope that some point in the future someone fluent in Japanese will translate them... but I'm getting my hopes up. The artwork that really interests me is the weapons and armor artwork, it's so detailed for something that will only be comprised of a few pixels and seen for probably less than a second.
