At one point I saw someone say that Kefka didn't plan anything. While I agree with most everything else you said, I must disagree with this.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Kefka had planned to revive the statues all the way from when you go through the Magitek Factory. You just don't realize what he means by "And.. I'll revive the Statues!" (the first time you play through) until you're up on the floating contenent and he's killing the emperor.

I think the reason he seems more uncalculating is the American script change; he just says really ridiculous things while in the Japaneese script he's actually cursing and saying somewhat goofy yet evil things which do make sense (I'm sure by now this is a restatement). Either way, this -

is enough for me. The grin, the skin tone, the right angel wing and the left demon wing... It's like facing Lucifer himself; the enemy of all creation, a being that wants to destroy everything mercilessly, even allies, until there is nothing left. His is a mind composed of pure hatred. He is one of the truly most evil characters, if not the most evil, in any artform, not just video games. There's something extremely primal about how he looks in that picture, something that really chills me. It's almost as if he was really that way all along, but only chose the image of a jester to decieve people into trusting him.

He's like a man who became Satan. In FF6, his name was known everywhere as being synonymous with evil, destruction, and terror. In that world, he was what we would think of as Satan, and I don't think there could be any greater evil than that.

Yes very. And as was stated in a topic a while ago about a Kefka (Final form)art, he does have many resemblences to Lucifer prior to being kicked out of heaven.

I've not seen that picture before, but there you go. The artist(s) that drew Kefka's final form knew who (what) they were drawing.

Lucifer was the Morning Star. The Right Hand of God. He surpassed all other Cherubim and Seraphim in God's eyes. Then pride entered his heart, and he thought to take over the throne of creation himself. He was cast out, along with a third of the Host. He is now known as The Deciever, Satan, Beelzebub.... whatever you want to call him from the many names he has. But Lucifer is still his God-given name, and so still applies. Therefore, Lucifer and Satan are the same entity.

One can draw all kinds of parallels between Kefka and Lucifer. Both sat on the right hand side of the man in charge... both betrayed him. Kefka won in the case of his betrayal, though.

Sephiroth, while being powerful and cool looking, just can NOT match up to the evil that is Kefka.

Maybe this will spread a little light on the situation.http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=satan

Read the last entry, that is a differetn one that shows that satan is actually a common noun. It is a title to Lucifer because of his actions.

WTF?! Kefka, not evil? I don't know what version of FF6 you've been playing, but Kefka is insanely evil. And btw,Kefka also basically destroyed the world, who cares about towns?

I vote Kefka. (Typical) Because any normal human who watches the little children in Doma (Cayn's son included) slowly wither and die with a smile on his face is the scariest person on earth. After Doma, I was always a little freaked when I fought Kefka again. Yeah, before the posioning, I didn't take him real seriously, I just though he was some crazy side-show freak, and that you'd have to fight the Emperor. eh.gif Then after Doma, it was like watching what a true pycopath is capable of and realizing that this guy actually had power.
(yeah, I'm really easily creeped out by mad clowns, and mass murders by cheap attacks)

I thought back to this old topic because of the mama's boy video in another thread.

These are two of the greatest video game villains of all time. Sephiroth probably has a bigger fanbase but also gets a lot more criticism for being the stereotypical dark and brooding villain of video games and anime. Kefka is seen as a lot more unique, starting out as a lackey and then becomming the main villain, but he's unoriginal in his own way too (think the Joker).

Both are crazy, no doubt about that. Sephiroth because of Jenova, Kefka because of a magitek experiment. They both kill a lot--Sephiroth burns down Nibelheim, Kefka poisons Doma. They're also responsible for two of the biggest tragedies in the series, the end of the world and the death of Aeris. They also both start off as part of a world dominating organization before emerging as the greater evil and have the final form of a fallen angel. I guess Kefka gets point for being the trendsetter there. tongue.gif

So it was definitely a close call for me. In fact I think I'm gonna come back and vote later. I just wanted to reinvigorate the debate a little bit before making up my mind. smile.gif

Sephiroth was totally kick ass, but Kefka was just way more evil... Sure, Sephiroth summoned Meteor to destroy the entire planet, and he killed lots of people...

But, Kefka, he poisoned an entire town, destroyed the world once already, tried to rule the planet both times, and he shot a destructive energy ray at any town who refused his power! Now that's evil

It seemed to me that Kefka got much more accomplished as a villain. Seph was cool, but a little cliche. Besides, whose image is more likely to scare small children, a tall guy that has a bit of bishonen, or an evil clown smile.gif

I voted for Kefka, hands down. That guy is pure evil. I don't dislike Sephiroth as a character, but as the main villain, if it weren't for his looks, he'd be quite forgettable.

Kefka versus Sephiroth, hmmmm, that's a tough choice. Both characters are memorable and the games in which they are on both can be consider a "greatest game ever". Both of them have a mighty thirst for power, one more twisted than the other, and that one is Kefka. Kefka didn't care at all about the world he was putting in danger, and Sephiroth did care about the planet, if there was no planet, then Sephiroth's plan to absorb the healing energy was going to fail. Then again, Sephiroth was not the real menace, that one was Jenova, and still is. It's a tough choice, so I'm gonna choose by categories.

Looks - Sephiroth
Weapon - Sephiroth
Story - Sephiroth
Personality - Kefka
Powers - Kefka
Battle - Kefka
Nostalgia - Sephiroth

OVERALL - Kefka
Simply because he was doing evil because he just wanted to. To me, Sephiroth was under Jenova's control and he was not doing things because he really wanted to. Kefka gets my vote, never the less, Sephiroth is still one hell of a bad guy.

BUT, if it was for me, I have t say 'Id' from Xenogears is the greatest ever!!!, but he is not the topic.

LONG LIVE THE KEFKA MAN!!!

I'll be honest right here. Both bosses are tediously easy, and can be quickly put down in a matter of seconds. But if I had to choose the victor, I'd go for Sephiroth. Sephiroth uses more spells and inflicts more status effects than Kefka, aswell that he has much more HP than Kefka.

Sure, Sephiroth is ove , but I'd root for him when it comes into gameplay. Kefka's only strong attack is Wing (Or Chaos I think). Sephiroth could just use Super Nova and do a big load on Kefka.

EDIT 2: Damn, I suck... I thought the VS was supposed to be between two final bosses. I like Kefka overall because you actually get to him and he isn't a showoff the way Sephiorth is. But I can't change my vote. *sad*

I agree with MetroidMorphBall. They're both revolutionary and legendary villains, and it's going to be hard for me to pick one (disregarding 'overrated/underrated' garbage, Kefka is just as overrated as Sephiroth is in that case).

I voted Kefka. To me Kefka is a more interesting villian. Instead of being a typical dark and distant villian, he seemed to be more complex, just as FFVI was. Because of that, he perfectly fit the story and the game as well.He had a sense of humor, even if it was dark. That set him apart from every FF villian I can think of.

Also, he is the only FF villian that can boast that for half the game he had won. Many would argue that until he merged with the statues, he wasn't that powerful, and he definitely wasn't as strong as Sephiroth, but, to me, that adds to Kefka being a better villian, because he had to connive, plan, and be opportunistic to rise to power. No disrespect to Sephiroth, but Kefka is a landmark villian for a landmark game.

Based on people killed? Advantage: Kefka.
Best weapon? Advantage: Sephiroth.
Better character? Advantage: Kefka.
Better overall villain? Advantage: Kefka.

Of course both characters are super incredibely easy people, but think about the first time you fought against them, my first time against Kefka I sucked bad, he just abused me. And Sephiroth just kept on destroying me. Now the story is much different, we know what to do.

However

It was sooo close cuz seph was a rediculous dude as well... particularly in Advent Children

I like the characters that make me laugh. Was Sephiroth funny? No, he was absolutely boring. I forgot that I was chasing Sephiroth throughout the game. Was Kefka funny? Do I have to ask? I've taken a screenshot of almost everything he's said because it had me laughing my head off. "You son of a submariner!" "Run, run or you'll be well done!" Kefka's a way cooler villain than Sephiroth.

I voted Kefka tongue.gif

Vwaa-hoo-hoo-hoo!!!

I had to vote Kefka. The magical, megalomaniac! No other villain comes close, I mean he was manipulating events before the game even got started good. Kefka is the real deal as far as villains go, I mean, c'mon, he DESTROYED THE WORLD

Kefka wins for the sense of humor. It's warped, twisted, insane, sadistic, etc. but it is a sense of humor. Sephiroth can qualify for all of the above adjectives, but there's no humor. And if you can't laugh at life, what's the point?
