one of the things i LOVE about square enix is that they dont release to much about a game then release it. sometimes it can turn out bad but in most cases their games are awesome.

Also, would anyone else like to see Crono and Magus as hidden characters? ![]() -------------------- |

I remember a few years ago talking about my ideas for an FF Fighting Game, only it was similar to Soul Calibur and had a larger list of characters that were mostly from VI-X (it was pre-FFXII)

Quote (BanjoTheClown @ 24th July 2008 21:48) Quote Not likely, it seems to be the main characters So it's likely Cecil and Terra You never know, it could be Celes instead of Terra. Most likely Terra They chose Jecht for Tidus due to the fact Jecht has a much larger link to Tidus than Seymore (He was more linked to Yuna) Now Kefka's link to Celes is that they occasionally worked together and Kefka had a crush on Celes Kefka's link to Terra is: He trained her, he put the slave crown on her erasing her memories, he forced her to slaughter his own soldiers, he used her to attack Narshe, he attacked Figaro to get her back, he attacked the Returners to get her back, he used her to open the Sealed Gate, he used to find and killed the escaped Espers, he killed a;most every surviving member of Terra's Esper race Edit: Also credit to being main character: The world map plays her theme tune, her being forced to attack Narshe starts the storyline, much of the storyline is about her being taken back by the empire, the only parts without Terra availible is when she goes insane Esper, it's her being insane Esper that introduces you to the uses of Espers, it's her opening the sealed gate that allows Kefka to become a god Post Cataclysm yes, Celes has a big role in starting the re-uniting, but after that there isn't much character development beyond who you're re-aquiring and the ending Edit again: Also, transformation appears to be a big part of Dissidia what with Kuja and Zidane's Trance, Light Warrior's Knight form, Jecht's Final Aeon form, Ultimecia's Griever transformation, Palamecia's Hell Emperor Form and so on Terra happens to have her Morph form, another reason I suspect her over Celes This post has been edited by Dark Paladin Danny on 25th July 2008 15:26 |

Well, my bad for mishearing/reading incorrectly or whatever I did wrong (but I seriously could've sworn they said 2 people per game). Thanks for the correction, but I've honestly set unrealistic expectations for the game, so I'm probably going to be irritated no matter what the circumstances. I mean, what are the chances of including Celes and Locke in it? -------------------- |

Earlier today at the Square-Enix private party thing they announced three more Dissidia characters: Golbez. ExDeath, and Kefka. No word on the protagonist characters from those games, yet. They also announced that the game is coming out this December in Japan.

I've known about Kefka for awhile now (but unfortunately forgot about it) because of a promotional poster of all of the villains that's near the bottom of the FFWiki page. Kefka's apparently in it. And I quote, from the same page: Quote Kefka: A failed Magitek experiment turned into the psychotic and sadistic Court Mage of the Gestahlian Empire. His appearance is confirmed in the playable demo during the first day of the Square Enix's DKΣ3713 Private Party 2008. In it, Kefka mentions about playing carefully with a very important female friend, most likely referring to Terra. As long as it says female, I'm still hoping for Celes. -------------------- |

I can't recall there being a single main character of FF6, pretty much everyone got their own segments and time in the spot light.

There is no main character, but I think there are some characters in the game that are obviously just supporting characters.
I really think that, in this case, they'll just choose a central character that they think is best suited for the fighting system in Dissida. -------------------- |

The discussion of "Who is the main character of FF6" is often contested and is also appropriate for another thread. Feel free to dig an old one up or make a new one if you can't find it, though.

I'm engaged in a running YouTube debate on the pros and cons of the Dissidia casting choices so far. I'd like to consolidate my thoughts here and get you guys' feedback since 90% of YT feedback is 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down'. There may or not be storyline spoilers here that span the FF universe, so be warned.
Warrior of Light/Garland - Good choices, even if they were really the only two logical picks. I'm curious to see how Garland and Chaos will interact since in FF1, they became the same entity. I'm secretly hoping that WoL is the "best" character (sort of like Ryu in Street Fighter). Firion/Palamecia - Again, there isn't much picking here. Guy is kind of secondary and Leon is introduced too late into the story for him to be a logical choice. Onion Knight/Cloud of Darkness - Here is where I draw my first real disagreement. FF began giving names to its protagonists with FF2, and "Onion Knight" isn't a character name; it's a job class. Perhaps Onion Knight will reveal himself later as Luneth, Ingus or perhaps Arc? I like CoD's makeover as more human, but Xande might have been just as good a choice. Golbez/(Cecil?) - I think Zemus would have been a bit more obvious choice, especially with the incorporation of CoD over Xande. Golbez ends up repenting at the end of FF4 and fighting against the final boss. I've read on the Wiki that we're supposed to assume shades of gray here, and that not all the characters are necessarily "good" or "evil". Cecil is the easy "hero" pick here, so I guess I'll have to suspend disbelief if I ever play the game. X-Death/(Bartz?) - Easy picks, although I wouldn't grudge them a Faris or Krile pick since we have no female protagonists yet. Kefka/(Terra or Celes?) - My favorite FF villain, so no argument there. Chances are, I won't mind the FF6 "hero" pick, whoever it is, since several of the protagonists had solid reasons to hate Kefka. I could see Cyan, Celes, Terra or even Edgar. Sephiroth/(Cloud?) - Groan. Sephiroth of course, since the only other FF7 villain with a case here is Jenova, and I think choosing her over Sephiroth would be an obvious marketing blunder. The question becomes who to square Sephiroth off against? Of course Cloud is the easy choice, but this matchup has already been done ad nauseum. I would much prefer Tifa as the FF7 pick since she has as much reason to hate Sephiroth as Cloud does, and again, we have no female protagonists yet. I worry that Cloud will become the closest thing to "main character" this game has. Squall/Ultimecia - Again, not a lot of argument to be had for anybody else except Edea, which seems to fit the "good guy gone bad guy gone good" format. I'm glad there's at least one 100% female villain since CoD is more of a 'being' than a person. Zidane/Kuja - I suppose its the best choice although Kuja semi-repented at the end. Necron was too random in his own game, never mind in Dissidia. Vivi would have been a decent choice for the "good" guy, but I suppose Zidane and Kuja's struggle is more personal. Tidus/Jecht - At this point, you really have to wonder about which sections of the storylines we're supposed to overlook. Jecht was never really a villain, even under Yu Yevon's control. Throughout FFX, Tidus may have hated Jecht, but it was more teenage angst than undying enmity, never mind that Jecht didn't hate Tidus. Without incorporating Yu Yevon or just having unaffiliated characters, this 'matchup' makes no sense. I would have liked to see Ramza, but who to square him off against? One of the Lucavi? A possible concern is that the goals of many of the villains are entirely incompatible with one another, so how can they band together? Garland wants to live forever, while Ultimecia wants to be the only thing alive. I'm guessing that's why we have factions in this game instead of two distinct teams. Or perhaps all of their respective aims have changed? If they're going to include Ramza, I say going with the most pervasive villains would be the best choice. There are only three characters who appear from the beginning of the game to the end besides Ramza who I think might be selected to square off against him: Dycedarg, Zalbag, and Delita. Of course, there's a good argument for Wiegraff being included in that list, though if memory serves, he went down before the beginning of Chapter 4. I'm inclined to immediately discount Zalbag due to the fact that he was never a willing villain.
So, Ramza versus Dycedarg? Makes sense; you've got the whole "You killed my father!" angle, plus the fact that Dycedarg becomes one of the Lucavi. His attire just seems inappropriate for a fighting game, though. As for Ramza versus Delita, in my mind, it just fits. Sure, Delita is never actually an enemy, yet he is the most pervasive and the longest standing force in the game. Everyone else either dies or vanishes and is presumed dead before Delita makes his way to the grave. He's manipulative and opportunistic; qualities that manifest in villains more often than they do heroes or, as was Delita's case, neutral parties. Plus, he's no stranger to battle, and is arguably a more visible character than the other two (even if one only looks at the first chapter of the game). Therefore, my pick would be pairing Ramza and Delita. |

Perhaps Ramza will be hidden? I've heard whispers of several hidden characters from 'various' *cough* sources.
Not to get too off-topic, but I think Ramza is a true FF hero - why not include him? There are few FF protagonists who willingly sacrificed as much as Ramza did simply because it was "right" to do so. Not lost, sacrificed. Ramza forsakes friends, family, religion, notoriety and (almost) life for honor. If I were Cosmos, I'd want someone that determined fighting on my side. -------------------- You don't scare me, you talking blobs of oozing slop! I am impervious to pain! |

I'd like to re-enforce my Onion Knight is adorable opinion
The menus popping up during EX Bursts are a nice touch during his EX Burst he gets into his FF3 battle pose (The same one for his class in his original game) and then steps forwards when it's his turn And the fact he falls over when he casts fire is adorable We also have a confrimation of Final Boss remixes and not how after the firs loop the music changes a little so it's not even gonna loop as normal at the same point as in the original EDIT: Figured out that flying trick at the start! It was the grinding we were told about This post has been edited by Dark Paladin Danny on 28th August 2008 08:26 |
