So I was just wondering if anyone on this forum have played or own The World Ends With You. It came out about a week ago in the UK got it yesterday as I thought I could do with a few more DS games so I got this with LOZ: Phantom Hourglass as I heard some good things about it.

When I first starting playing the game I was...well lets say I found the game a little strange as it was unlike anything I have ever played before. But after about 10 minutes I was hooked, this has to be one of the best DS games Ive played in quite some time and I've been meaning to get a proper RPG for the DS since FFIII.

The game is set in Shibuya,Tokyo (not sure what time, though I heard its in the modern world) where a 15 year old boy named Neku Sakuraba awakes to find himself confused and not knowing what is going on, later on he seems to find out he is in a mysterious game constructed by a group known as the Reapers. In seven days, Neku must complete missions assigned to him along with other confused people playing the Reaper's Game.

I highly reccomend this game to anyone who loves RPG's and wants something new and refreshing. Anyone else played this?

Yeah, I'm playing it right now and I'm completely hooked. There is so much to do in this game. I've put a ton of hours into it and the battle system hasn't gotten old at all. So much is happening at once and I love every bit of it.

I got this game a few days after it was released and I've been playing it non-stop. I was mainly interested because it was done by the same development team that worked on the Kingdom Hearts games. Needless to say, I wasn't at all disappointed. The battle system is intense, innovative and extremely entertaining. The fact that most battles (apart from some boss fights) are in short bursts really add to the urgent feeling of having to defeat the "noise". The use of the touchscreen is absolutely incredible. At first, it seemed like a bit of a daunting task to have to watch both screens at once, use the touch screen and the D-pad to control both of your characters, but literally after two or three fights, I was chaining combos like a mad man.

The characters are awesome and there are some genuine emotional moments in the plot. The story itself is pretty unqiue and I enjoyed it a great deal.

I'm currently playing a New Game+ so that I can beat the game on hard and unlock a bunch of new pins. Even the way the New Game+ works is awesome, as it isn't just simply starting the game over with all your old items and equipment...that for you to see when you get there.

Over all, this is probably the best game I've played for my DS system, and probably one of the top video games I've played in a long time.

Yeah, I don't think I can ever get bored of this battle system, I'm glad theres another DS game that uses the stylus so well.

Also what does everyone think of the soundtrack of this game? First I thought it was a bit annoying...now I love it thumbup.gif.

The soundtrack is so zetta amazing. It's one of my favorite parts of the game. It's got the weirdest fusion of JPop, Electronica, and Urban Punk that works SO WELL for the art style. The entire presentation of this game is flawless.

I beat it last night and was floored by the ending and post-game material. There is still so much left for me to do.

Two questions,

1: Is the voice acting annoying?

2: If I see this at Gamestop today and buy it, am I going to regret it? lol

The voice acting is really good. There's only one clip that's a bit annoying, but it fits the character very well. I picked this up without putting too much thought or research into it beforehand, and I haven't regretted it one bit. This game is amazing.

Shouldn't this technically be in General Squenix?

And yeah, I'm very, very tempted to get this game, but I'm a little hurting for cash at the moment, my backlog of games to play is pretty damn ridiculous, and my DS is at home until exams are finished. Ugh...

Oh yeah good point blush.gif , forgot that this game was made by Square Enix.

I agree with Neal, there is nothing about this game that I hate. It is pretty much flawless thumbup.gif.

I completely forgot it was a Square project only because it really didn't feel like one. I suppose there were things that were definitely common for their games, but over all, it had such a new feeling to it, I just kinda associated it with Jupiter over Squeenix.

The soundtrack was absolutely amazing, I went so far as to download a few of the sounds for my iPod, something I rarely do with video game music. Like Neal said, it was just a weird but wonderful mix of urban punk, electronica and Jpop. I'll admit some of the songs had some...awkward lyrics, but that just made the experience even more enjoyable.

The voice acting was surprisingly well done. There aren't too many voice acted scenes, but the ones that are done, well, they do a great job. The voices all fit the characters completely.

I'm currently hunting for all the secret reports, I had mixed feelings about the bonus chapter at the end of the game, but the minigame alone is more than enough to compensate. Tin Pin Slammer is probably one of the best mini games ever, at least since Blitzball. It's simple and incredibly easy to pick up, but once you do, you'll be stuck playing it for a while.

SO ZETTA SLOW.

You can download them ohmy.gif, I might just do that, even though I'm not too sure about the names of the songs. It's an absolutley amazing sound tracks tongue.gif.

Edit: Well I've been on to Itunes looked at the sountrack (which is awsome btw) but I can't help thinking theres a song missing. Ive gone through all the previews and I know one song is missing. I'm listning to it on my DS now but I can't find it :S.

You know the one thats goes 'You and I will live forever more, I will follow you like destiny"' or something similer to that.

It's called Deja Vu, and is unfortunately not on the soundtrack. Three Minutes Clapping, Twister-Gang-Mix, Lullaby For You, and The One Star are all also missing.

Currently at end of day 2 of the Joshua chapter, but to the point.

The design is beautiful, the story is perplexing, the characters are great (despite some of them being obvious reincarnations of Nomura's old designs. Example Auron - Sanae Hanekawa).

The battle system is intense and I'm actually challening myself to play it the hard way right now - Hard setting, lvl 1, no auto play, chaining battles - needless to say, the game is kicking my behind on this setting.

I got it today and damn is this game great. I was a little worried about the combat using both screens, but for the most part, the auto play is quite competent and the voice acting is great (except pink-hair lady, hate her voice lol). Definately a great buy, thank you for everyone who said it was good

I got this game for my birthday today, and its probably the best DS game i've played to date. The only problem is i can only use one attack with Shiki. And also, how long to i have to wait until i can use attacks like the giant teddy bear?

I never got the giant teddy bear thing either sad.gif. I'll be doing another playthrough to see if I can find things that I missed

I usually leave the top screen in auto while I focused on the bottom. The auto-play has always been pretty competent for me

The Giant Teddy Bear is a fusion level 3, you need to have to have reached a certain point in the game and then one of the shops will allow you to buy new Fusions to use. Shiki has the initial flash step, the flying Kitty and the then giant version. The same applies for Joshua and Beat, you can find them in stores similar to the Attack and Defense up.

Interestingly enough, I recently got the item that allows me to chain up to 16 noise battles as well as the Ultimate difficulty setting. The battles have gotten much longer and I've learned that I can't rely on memorizing one or two attacks for the supporting player. I'm learning, and it's quite difficulty at first, to pay close attention to both screens and focus on where the light puck is. I set a combo all time best for attacks in a 13 noise battle of 1173 hits, which netted me an absurd amount of pin drops.

My only real compliant is that the multiplayer and wifi capabilities are limited to strictly local area. I'd love to able to truly go wifi and trade pins, hell even battle or play Tin Pin Slammer against people all over.

Tin Pin is easily a favorite addiction of mine. I really can't help it, such a fun mini game.

Pretty sweet Dragon_Fire. I'm not really good with getting insane combos, but I get enough pins as it is.

Currently I'm on the second week and what really annoyed me was how

I love that even though I've had this game beaten for over a month, I'm still playing it nearly every day. It really has reached a point where I've obsessively started collecting every item, all pieces of clothing, any pin and repeatedly going through the game. I've been attempting to play through the story again on Ultimate Difficulty, but the battles just become more and more absurd. Maybe it's because I always keep my level around 15 so that I pick up massive amounts of drops, but still.

My friend got the game and let me play it, and i loved it. Definately a squenix masterpiece! However, i cant seem to find it anywhere, at any Gamestop, Gamecrazy, or ebgames (at least in Seattle/West Seattle). Does anyone know why this might be? Are they all out, or do these specific places not carry any more?
