If you know Japanese at all, I need your help. I found someone who owns one of the three FFVI creation material guides (it's like something published by Square that has a lot of stuff related to the FFVI universe that's not in the game, and I can prove its authorization by Square if you want me to). He asked me to put something up on the CoN forum for him asking for translators.
If you'd like, we already have a translation of Kefka's bio and Celes' bio, which I can post here if you'd like, as well as a scan from the guide. This guide is 13 years old and this might just be the first translation of the guide, so we may learn some of the answers to the questions we've always had! -CSM -------------------- The NEW Final Fantasy Wiki! I trust that your friend plans to share the information with CoN given that he found us a good resource to look for translators, yes?

He actually wanted to ask you if you could put it up on CoN proper (and I agree with him that it should). I was afraid your answer would be "no." -CSM

The answer is tentatively yes, but I would be the person overseeing the presentation. To discuss it further, PM me, or even better, get your friend to sign up here and we can talk about it directly. I don't want to derail your thread.

I am the one with the Final Fantasy 6 book. I've had the book for 5 years, and didn't realize what it was until a few weeks ago. There are two others, one is a strategy guide, and the other is like the book I have but with more complete info.
With your help I'd like to put together a translation of all materials in said books. If any of you know Japanese, I implore you to help on this project. This info has gone under the radar too long for English speaking FF fans, and it should all be brought to light. |

Yep, this is the guy who's been talking to me online.
I actually found someone who does know how to translate, but he hasn't responded to me yet. -CSM -------------------- The NEW Final Fantasy Wiki! Join us! |

that's the guide...if any of you can speak Japanese and want to order it, it's currently going for very cheap. We'd all appreciate it. This post has been edited by FF6LockeCole on 31st July 2007 04:01 |

Sorry about the old thread, but I can't continue to lay down on the job.
This is my translation of pages 48-52 of the materials book, the little 'artbook' with the Amano Tina closeup on the cover. BTW, this is the only book I've come across that isn't a run-of the-mill strategy guide. Quote History of the World 1st Turning Point - Meeting of the "World Peace Council" No records remain of the history of the world prior to -1000, when the Magic War ended. A single bit folklore that holds that the eastern nation of Doma was already functioning as a state is all that exists. For 150 years afterwards history remained stagnant, looking over the actions of the people in silence. And then history began to move. In -735, the world set itself a single goal - world peace. This is certainly the consequence of a desire not to cause a repetition of the Magic War which had occurred 265 years prior. The "World Peace Council," in which the Self-governing Military Organization (now the Empire) played a central role, opened, and a worldwide peace treaty was established. Here, great footprints that guided the world towards peace were etched into history. This was the first step towards the peace that everyone longed for. However, only 50 years after the enactment of the treaty a nation casts a shadow over the tranquility. The Empire, proud of its overwhelming military power, declared it's independence as a military state and set out to police the world. 2nd Turning Point - The "Industrial Revolution" Occurs Around -700, the many states expanding across the world were branching apart, starting with trading state of Alburg and the states Maranda and Tzen on the south continent. On the northern continent were the nation of Jidoor with it's strict class system, the nation of Figaro where the desert peoples dwelled, the free cities Narshe and Nikeam, the eastern country Doma, and the frontier zone (the beast plain). Meanwhile, the Empire gradually became an even stronger policing organization... Time flows on until -208. In the roughly 500 years since the Council there had been no major wars, no historically noteworthy disasters, and the people carried on with peaceful, uneventful lives. There, a revolution occurred that could be called a turning point in world history - the "Industrial Revolution". With this, the power of machinery suddenly pervaded the world. With all its goods, as well as its ills... 3rd Turning Point - The Rebirth of "Magic" After -200 when the world showed sudden advancement due to machinery, each nation began to develop in varying ways. With the discovery of large coal deposits, Narshe started to shape itself into an industrial state. Nations such as Figaro that had built massive castles obviously accepted the benefits of machinery after the industrial revolution. And culture kept advancing even further. From -100 and thereafter, the state of the world, like the course of a dammed river that had just burst, flowed on towards darkness. The Empire began its aggression. Having increased its military power continuously, the Empire set out to rule the world. Simultaneously they founded the Magic Research Institute, and began studying the fearfully powerful force of "magic" in earnest. Through the "Magic Armor" field tests, the Empire succeeded in a full-blown continental conquest. An age of madness was falling. And so time progressed until the present. Mankind is committing its error once again... Timeline -1200 The eastern country Doma successfully functions as a state? (Legend) -1000 End of the Magic War? The Genju are not seen from this point onward. -980 The Doman historical record "A Faithful Account of the Magic War" is lost. -735 Opening of the World Peace Council. The council leader proclaims the "Genju Eradication". -685 The Empire is founded as a military state with the goal of policing the world. -600 "Retainers" are first officially appointed as warriors in Doma. -208 An Industrial Revolution and cultural renaissance successively flourish. -202 In the country Figaro on the north continent, Figaro Castle is completed. -199 Discovery of large deposits of coal. People dreaming of making fortunes gather, industrial states form. -150 Narshe starts an independent political organization with the intent of commercial solidarity. Transforms into a united state. -84 After the industrial revolution, the mechanization of Figaro Castle proceeds. -74 Gastra of the Empire is born as the heir of line of military officers. Failure of Figaro Castle's first submerge attempt. A temporary royal palace is built in South Figaro. -68 Figaro Castle successfully submerges on it's third attempt. It later comes to be feared as the phantom mechanical castle. -59 A coup d'etat occurs in the Empire. Gastra's father is heavily involved. -38 Armament stockpiling proceeds in the Empire to increase influence. In the same year, Vector is completed. -20 Gastra is elevated to Emperor at the age of 52, demonstrating almost superhuman charisma. In response to the Empire's aggression, Narshe's weapons trade comes to rival it's coal trade. The two states enter a mutual peace accord. -18 First Imperial expeditionary campaign. The Empire claims the southeast continent, and also opens the Magic Research Institute. -12 Reorganization of the Imperial military by Leo, Kefka and others completes. The first results from the Magic Research Institute are announced in the Empire. -8 Second Imperial expeditionary campaign. Immediately after the magic armor feild tests, conquest of the western continent begins. Figaro forges an alliance with the Empire. In South Figaro, a minor riot occurs in response to the alliance with the Empire. -7 The previous king of Figaro (Edgar and Mathew's father) dies. -3 Doma commences small skirmishes with the Empire. -2 The Empire begins it's third campaign, with eastern Doma as it's starting point. 0 Discovery of the frozen Genju in the deepest section of Narshe's coal mines. -------------------- "Cavefish is delicious, but only if cooked." |

That's pretty neat. Sounds like the type of book that would make several hundred fanfic authors look silly. Also- 74? Damn. Gestahl is older than I thought.

I'm deeply interested in how the Empire managed to ever capture Espers. This never seems to be touched on but every single piece of expanded information Squaresoft has ever published makes it obvious that Magitek and the Mechanical Armor itself is only developed after the assault on the Esper Realm. The idea that their foot soldiers managed to storm the Espers with such force that they actually overwhelmed beings of magic makes me laugh.
And I mean, Terra, half-Esper and without any knowledge of what she was doing, managed to score an alleged 50:1 kill ratio. Anyways, the translation is much appreciated, Shiva. Do you need help in procuring the booklet listed above? It seems like you already have it, but if you don't, I'd be more than willing to procure for the good for all. Thank you for the offer, but I already have it and I don't expect that it contains any unique information. This one and this
one could be interesting, but again are probably just run-of-the-mill strategy guides. I have the 1st and 3rd of the trilogy of little books from NTT. The 3rd is mostly lists of spells, moves, equips, and monsters, but I did find something interesting... A screenshot of a completely topless Lakshmi/Starlet. Originally the North America version was censored so her whole torso was draped in cloth. (Is GBA less censored on this one?) The Japanese versions had cleavage and midriff, but apparently that too was a concession to prudence. -------------------- "Cavefish is delicious, but only if cooked." |

One of the books has PLENTY of unique information.
http://sucker.boo.jp/sucker/larc/transient...iness/cefca.htm This information, taken from the Venture guide book, has EVERYTHING about Kefka. Including information on his childhood, detailed information on his ascent to power, information about a decline in power post insanity, information on his relationships with several of the characters within the empire etc. Not to be it rude, but I think before you write something off as not having "unique" information, you should at least read it. It's not fair to people who want the information and can't read Japanese. There's a wealth of information contained in these three books, and it should be thoroughly translated. If you don't want to do it, that's your perogative. But don't say there's nothing there. This post has been edited by FF6LockeCole on 11th August 2007 01:03 |

I’m sorry, but there's no connection between the Bouken Guidebook strategy guide and the link you provided. (That is the one you're referring to, right? The one in the Y!JA link?) That site does have excerpts from Creation Materials and The Complete, but says nothing about Bouken. Your link is also part of a doujinshi creator's page for an alternative coupling (Kefka x Celes) and the majority of the content is openly stated to be fan interpretation. Still, it looks like it's pretty interesting.
I'd be happy to translate samples of Bouken Guidebook so you know what kind of material it contains. Let me know if you're interested. -------------------- "Cavefish is delicious, but only if cooked." |
