IF YOU CANNOT CONNECT, RUN THE PATCHER! ![]() ----------------------------------- It's the height of summer vacation, possible boredom, and therefore the ideal environment to again introduce: CoN Ragnarok Fever! "What's that?" you ask, interest piqued. Why, CoN Ragnarok Fever is when CoN members all crowd to Ragnarok Online, establish a guild, and play en masse for PARTY PARTY FUN! Ragnarok Online is an expansive 3D MMORPG. Players create characters, assign them classes (Swordsman, Archer, Mage, etc.), equip them with swords/bows/magic spells, and then run around frantically whacking monsters to death. Players interact with each other by trading items, forming parties and guilds, and even getting e-married. So, ARE YOU EXCITED YET?? Whether you're a Ragnarok veteran or complete beginner to Massively Multiplayer Online RPGs, you are welcome to join our ranks, learn the game from us, and have loads of fun. In this thread I will provide explanations of how to get started playing Ragnarok Online with us, as well as pertinent information for both beginners and experienced players. -----------------------------------
HEY GUYS I WANNA ASK WHY I CAN'T CONNECT TO THE GAME?? ![]() ![]() ----------------------------------- Beginners Where do I go now? After making it off Beginner Island, you'll have a fair grasp on game mechanics, but you'll soon realize what an expansive gameworld Ragnarok offers. It is daunting, to be sure. Try to explore major towns, such as Prontera and Morroc, and familiarize yourself with the NPCs in those areas. This will pay off when later on you want to buy red potions, and you won't have to stumble blindly through town to find out where they can be purchased. You will also want to note the location of NPCs called Kafra. Almost every town has at least one, and if you talk to a Kafra, you can ask her to record the location at which you respawn in case of death (Save), or open your storage window (Use Storage), where you can safely store heavy items or transfer items between your own characters. How do I change class? Once you have reached Novice job level 10, you can begin a class quest. If other CoN players are online, they will be happy to help you identify where you need to go. And, information about job changes is also easily available online, through Google searches or sites like Gamefaqs. Once the enemies outside of towns become too weak for you (usually after your first job change), you might try out some of the game's easier dungeons. Culvert is the easiest dungeon, and once you can handle Culvert fairly well, most players proceed to Payon. How do class upgrades work? Basically, the RO class system works as follows: Players receive two kinds of EXP from defeating monsters: Base EXP and Job EXP. Base EXP causes a character's "Base Level" to grow. A higher Base Level means more stat points. Job EXP, on the other hand, causes "Job Level" to grow. Each Job Level grants a character one new skill point, which may be spent in his or her class skill tree. All players begin in the Novice class. Upon reaching Novice job level 10, players may choose any of the first classes. Then, they restart at First Class job level 1. When a first class reaches Job Level 40, players may proceed to their Second Class. Then, they restart at Second Class job level 1. What Classes are Available? First Classes Acolyte - The healing and assistive magic class. Can become a Priest or Monk. Archer - The ranged physical attack class. Can become a Hunter or Dancer/Bard. Mage - The offensive magic class. Can become a Wizard or Sage. Swordsman - The tank class. Can become a Knight or Crusader. Thief - The high agility class. Can become an Assassin or Rogue. Merchant - The money-focused class. Can become a Blacksmith or Chemist. Taekwon Kid - Class that equips no weapons and uses a Monk-like combo system of attacks. Can become Taekwon Master or Star Gladiator. Ninja - Thief-like class which also utilizes shuriken throwing and magic-like attacks. Has no advanced class. Gunslinger - Archer-like class with long-range rapid fire attacks. Has no advanced class. Second Classes Priest - Powerful healing skills and buffs, including the ability to resurrect team members from death. Monk - High physical damage class with attack skills that may be "comboed" off each other. Hunter - High accuracy and damage class with ability to lay "traps" that explode when enemies cross over them. Dancer/Bard - Archer-like class that also has the ability to perform area-based "buffs" or "curses." Wizard - Most powerful offensive magic class, but extremely fragile vs. physical attacks. Sage - Sort of a "neutral" magic class able to temporarily enchant weapons with elemental properties or increase the damage of other party member's elemental attacks. Knight - The valuable tank class with great physical damage output and the ability to ride a giant Chocobo-like thing. Crusader - A "Paladin" class which uses holy-elemental attacks and healing skills. Assassin - Covert class which weilds two daggers (or katars) with high attack speed and cloaking abilities. Rogue - Thief-like class which equips knives or bows and focuses on stealing and backstabbing skills. Blacksmith - Hammer- or Axe-wielding class with high damage output and the ability to forge new weapons. Chemist - Blacksmith-like class which can create and throw useful potions at allies or enemies. Taekwon Master - A more powerful Taekwon Kid-like class. "Hovers" instead of walking. Star Gladiator - A magic oriented class, which performs a special "Soul Link" ability to greatly improve the abilities of party members. Links One of the most useful Ragnarok resources available online is RO Cards It is a German website which includes extensive monster and item databases, helping you figure out what places are effective to train at, and what monster drops that rare item you want to obtain. Just an add on to Phoenix's post, for in-game commands to simplify game-play.
@autoloot and @showexp are handy, but the commands I find myself using the most are the /nc and /ns commands. Typing these both into your chatbox allows you to lock onto and constantly attack any monster/player you decide to target, without having to click on said monster or player each time you want to attack. It also removes the need to use shift in order to target party members and other players, so you're free to cast magic on anyone. If at any point you get lost and need assistance, you can type in /where which will give you the name of the map you are on and the coordinates you're standing at. Sending that to another CoN guild member can result in us easily finding you and coming to the rescue, should you need it. The Ragnarok Online world is quite big, afterall. Wow, this game is looking to be very promising. I have a fast computer, but even as fast as it is, it will still take like four hours for the download. After that, i'll post my guy's name. Can't wait.

i created a separate folder for everything regarding this game, so it's all in there. secondly, i have no idea what a RAR file is, much less how they work. and it still says disconnected from server.
any other ideas? This post has been edited by Death Penalty on 21st July 2007 03:24 -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! Have a listen! |

Since I got the Disconnected from Server message, that's still my best guess as to what we can do.

Edit ok i just figured it out!!! just in case, i decided to re-open that patches thingy, and apparently, my computer (idk why) closed out of the "patches" thing before it was completely finished. so now i just tried logging in and it worked! unfortunately, i dont have time to try it out now, but you can bet i will tomorrow! ![]() This post has been edited by Death Penalty on 21st July 2007 03:42 -------------------- Currently Playing : Final Fantasy V Most Recently Beat : Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Favorite Game : Final Fantasy X The newest CoNcast is up! Alright, I did step 1 and 2. Now I have a question:
Quote Click on RebirthRO Patcher.exe Where's that at? I'm kinda new at this, but I have the RebirthRO_FULL_CLIENT.exe and Small Client.exe, but where is the RebirthRO Patcher.exe? The RebirthRO Patcher.exe file should exist within your Ragnarok directory. You'll have 3 EXE files in there: RebirthRO.exe (starts the game), Setup.exe (Runs graphics setup), and RebirthRO Patcher.exe

Hmmmm, try to find the location you installed the game to: Probably C:\Program Files\GravityRO\
Check to see if the Patcher File is in there. If it is not, and you have already installed the other two EXEs successfully, try simply running the game from your Start Menu. If it works, then you don't need to worry about the patcher at all. |

No worrys, I got it working. I am such an idiot (or I feel like one), I skipped over a pretty big part. Here it was, my problem that is:
Quote When you finally have Rebirth_Full_Client.exe, run it and select a location for your Ragnarok installation. I totally skipped that and just went to downloading the Small Client.exe. After, i'll tell my name shortly. I guess I don't have to feel like too much of a moron, the fact that this is my 300th post makes me feel a tad good. ![]() Edit Also Phoenix, I have another question. FF Master: Death Penalty also seems to have had trouble with it. Wait it out, and when it seems to be done, run the patcher once more just to make sure. I know some good leveling up places for Sword Mans and Acolytes. After a few levels with these classes, you can go to Payon cave, and attack the skeletons for a few levels, then kill a few bats who are agressive. Then after a while kill the poporings and zombies for better exp. This should work for a little bit. Just to note, Acolytes can kill the Skeletons and Zombies with heal, but will heal the Poporings and bats. don't forget to type /ns so you can target the undead with the heal spell.
To make the cure spell do more damage, increase your int. ![]() Now on your first job and second job you can go up to level 50 on each, but you can go to 40 to job change. I recommend level 50 because you can get 10 more skill points and allocate those on skills you might need for your next class. ![]() More to come soon. -------------------- |
