Just kidding.

Actually, I'm back. Fully. I now have the interweb at home! Rejoice my friends, the lovable ( ? ) arrogant condescending bastard that I am has returned! biggrin.gif

For those of you in Montreal, that's right all 3-4 of you, I figured I'd relate my experiences if you're looking for an ISP.

Two fairly good-sounding ISPs other than the uber-expensive Videotron (moreso if you don't have cable TV - $50-something!) and Sympatico Bell (a bit expensive but not too bad - that's what I have now) are Radioactive and CoopTel. I tried them both, hoping to get a reasonable service that isn't too expensive.

Forget Radioactive. Do not go with them. After phoning them up to give them my info, they told me I'd be able to activate my account within about a week. A week later I get an email from them saying I had to phone them because they were missing contact info (I answered all of the guy's questions.) Turns out they didn't have my appartment number. Fine. I give it. Now I have to wait another week. A week goes by, wham, another email saying they were, AGAIN, missing contact info. I phone them up and they ask who provides my phone line (Bell.) They ask me wether it was numerical or digital (or something like that - I had no clue wtf the difference was frankly.) I describe my phone setup to them and they tell me "Oh well we don't support that. Bye now! *click*" Turns out they DO support what I have, but after being messed around with like that, I figured screw them.

Forget CoopTel. Their tech support is even worse. Their opening hours are fairly hard to work with (9-5 during weekdays - seeing as I'm at work during that time, there's just no phoning them) so I emailled them. I was pretty specific - I specified I lived in Montreal (their nearest store is like... 2 cities away, but they cover Montreal) and that I could not reach them by phone because their hours didn't work out with my working hours. After 2 weeks I get a reply that basically went, "If you live in [the city they have their office in - NOT montreal] you can drop by and we'll work out the details. Otherwise you can phone us." I email them again telling them I had specified that I didn't live in their city and that I couldn't reach them by phone. The bright young tech replies (again, 2 weeks later) and starts nitpicking at my original email saying I wasn't clear enough ("I live in Montreal" is very misleading folks.) Forget them. I'm not getting my webornet from some people who can't read a simple email without taking half a month to reply, only to start nitpicking and arguing with their clients. Not at all reassuring.

So I'm with Sympatico Bell. Less expensive than Videotron, a bit slower, but not enough to bother me one bit. It took a while to get my modem though - turns out the little delivery paper got lost and I didn't find out the modem was waiting to be picked up at ye 'ol post office until today, after phoning them to know what was up. A fairly cute girl was working at the post office (dude, she was totally into me tongue.gif ) so it all worked out fine for everyone. thumbup.gif

The bad news is, obviously enough, that I'll be more active than in the past year or so I've been netless. Yeah, sorry everyone. That's just how things work.

The good news is that I can now resume work on Endless Saga fully and will be able to progress a LOT faster on that FFV hack with Caesar. I believe I owe some people some files and such - drop me a PM or a message in this thread if you're one such person, my memory is terrible - so I'll be able to settle that issue as well.

Now, I'm off to get reacquainted with net culture. Man... it's been so long. Is "All your bases" still cool? Do we all still laugh at that stupid and annoying bananphone song? Do people still sing that "Badger badger badger" song? Are the horrible newbie-trap sites like goatse and tubgirl still around?

It'll be a long journey...

You made no mention of computer programming, so I'm still skeptical if it's really you or not.

That ISP nightmare you went through reminds me of exactly the same issue I had when I moved two years back, though I ended up going the way of Videotron, since I was getting my cable from them too. More expensive, sure, but I absolutely hate dealing with Bell when it comes to anything. Plenty of bad experiences there. Hopefully you have a much better experience with them than I did. At any rate, glad you got everything up and running. Welcome back to the internet at a much more convenient rate.

Pah, and there was me thinking here is finally going to be an honest topic, where someone embraces their foolishness and admits it to the world. That would have been a unique thing to witness, but this is almost as good!

Welcome back dude. Although, to be honest, it seemed to me you were posting as much as most people. smile.gif

Heh, go figure. I fix up my internet, and my HD blows out. It was old anyways. I just bought a new one and installed it and everything seems fine so far. No big loss - I was having problems last night and made backups before heading off to bed in case it'd turn out being something serious.

Now I have to copy everything back, and reinstall a few things. Joy of joys. Ah well, at least I didn't lose anything (save for a few files I was going to delete anyways that I didn't bother to back up, and my day.)

All's well that ends well...? smile.gif

Well, glad to see you back and posting with regularity. I didn't notice much slowdown either, and hell, you've posted more than me and I got Internet access.

All in all, w/b looking forward to more Endless Saga info.

Well good job on getting the home internet service. Does that mean that there will be more updates on the FFV hack?

@Nytecrawla:
Well, it's hard to write posts at work. For one thing I DO have a job to do, so I often just type a few lines while waiting for something to compile (zomg delphi r teh slows!!!) and my train of thoughts is often broken. smile.gif

Rest assured, I've been looking forward to seeing more Endless Saga myself - it's hard to work when you have 0 reference material on your PC and no internet. I've officially resumed working on it yesterday.

@yomama:
The FFV hack is still quite alive and kicking. However, Caesar and I have decided to limit our postings about it to maintain everyone's interest in the project when it'll come out. The drop in the amount of replies in that thread showed us it's best to mainly keep information on the project to ourselves until we have something we can put out for people to play around with.

Though since you asked, the last thing we've worked on involved relocating entirely the animations to an empty bank in the ROM, which in plain english means we now have 64k of space instead of about 5-6k for animations. Wether we have a demo in the works or not, or wether some jobs are already fully playable, is something we'll keep to ourselves for the time being. smile.gif

All the merrier with you around!

Edit
stuff

Yes, the memes are still around, although they've started to age, admittedly. Nowadays, I'm on "lol, internet" and NEDM.

And company tech support generally sucks. Makes ya wanna go out and start your own ISP if you have enough computer knowledge...
