Greetings fellow Final Fantasy geeks, I, seraph, have recently developed a theory on the connection between Shadow and Relm.  They can both wear the Memento Ring, and they can both get along with Interceptor.  The Memento Ring is a relic from Relm's mother, and Relm's parents are no longer "alive".  Shadow, or "Clyde", could be Relm's real father!  I don't know if anyone has already thought of this, or if I am maybe the only person who didn't know that, but its all right here, in my writing.

That speculation has been around for quite some time.  There's plenty of evidence to support the theory, but as it turns out, Square decided to keep Shadow's origins a secret (kind of), and to only tease the player a bit, which I think is pretty brilliant.  It all added to our favorite black-shrouded ninja's mystique.  If people are still guessing and theorizing about Shadow to this day, I'd say they accomplished their goal.

Yeah, it's a pretty valid theory that people have been discussing for a while. I think it's obvious that Shadow is Relm's father, and Square hinted at it a lot. This thread should get a spoiler warning though, hehe.

In the Dream Sequence, doesn't Clyde hand over the baby to Strago, his late wife's father, and tell him to take care of her when he leaves?

Not that I can remember. o.O As far as I know, he just made a little speech...I don't recall anything that showed him handing a girl over to Strago. O.o

Hey interceptors a great dog! wouldnt you want a dog who could take damage for you, and attack?

I'm sure someone knows the exact quote, but I think it goes something like this: "I want you (interceptor) and the girl to (be safe/live in a world...), etc. when he's in Thamasa (dream sequence), which pretty much confirms the 'Shadow is Relm's father' theory. Please insert the proper quote.

I have never seen this dream myself, but I have read about it. This would fit in perfectly with Shadow's dream of leaving Thamasa and "the girl" behind, and definitely support the theory.

yea... i also thought shaddow was relm's father, b/c i let him die on the continent... (i'm pretty lame, but i had been here 5 times prior, and the game would erase) (and is there a way to save him, because i didn't look into that yet).

but when relm asked 'where'd he go?', 'is he ever coming back'
(asked or said), i made that theory as well, because interceptor too is a good link. just a guess... but i like it.

what dream does he say that in? i dont remmber i know there are two that take place in thasama. but i dont remmber that one. also i have never heard of that dream with relm i have never let shadow die cause hes useally my thrid in command and is ubber powerful in my game (locke,mog,shadow)i never really go anywhere with out him cause his throw techinque is one of the best skills in the game not to mention the fact that its a great way to get rid of useless weapons.

From what I recall of the dream sequences, the conclusion that Shadow is Relm's father is not only logical, but heavily implied. I agree with the person who said that Square's refusal to provide anything concrete was a good decision--it added mystery to the characters involved.

if you read everything carefully you will see him say so and another link that makes shadow relm's father is the way he walks away in 1)his dream and 2) when he goes out alone to search the espers.
