was thinking, along the lines of pokemon series, there are a number of tools online that can be found to edit and arrange things in the rom version of pokemon.
if anyone knows of any of such tools for final fantasy VII, and knows where a downloadable version of ffVII is, could you please leave a post here or add me/email me on msn, [email protected].

i have an idea that would be good, and would make the playing even funner..

add a new game + feature like ffx-2
add more bosses.
add more materia,
add more chocobo colours, have different for different colours for higher speed and higher stamina in races. have a red chocobo used for crossing the desert at gold saucer to get back into under gold saucer. (useless i know, but stuff can be added)
add options to have zach in the party after cloud has his memory fixed.
add/remove stats/slots on weapons and armors.
change some sprites, for vechiles as an example.
and a few more little things.

it'd be cool to be able to do this, so if anyone can help, it'd be apreciated.
thankyou

As far as rom editors... I suggest CoN's section on FFVII editors.
http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff7/downloads/editors.php

I know of sites where you can Download the rom itself, but not sure of CoN's rules on such links in forums... so I PMed you on that.

Actually, you shouldn't be using any part of CoN to distribute links to illegal downloads, and there are no legal free downloads of FF7.

That said, I suppose you can't put the genie in the bottle again, but remember it for next time.

Quote (ForumRules)
e. Illegal Activities: Any discussion of how to perform illegal file-sharing in general and obtaining ROMs in particular is forbidden. Do not ask for, provide links for, or offer to share ROMs using site resources. If you want to talk about all the software you steal, hey, whatever, that's not our problem. But the second you use our site to describe how you did it, that's another story entirely, and we won't accept it. This is met swiftly and often severely.

PMs are a "Site Resource." http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/forums/rules.php#content

Additionally, there are no known editors to add more things to the game, and since most of the art in the game is modeled, not sprited, you're going to have to have the ability to alter the model wireframes and textures in order to even change anything beyond raw data. Don't get your hopes up too much.

I could suggest codeofhackingthehackers 52.4.

Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? Or perhaps buying a really good looking shirt?

Heyy, first off, FF7PC can be modded quite easily in just about every aspect.

Okay, from the list of things, what is and what isn't possible;

add a new game + feature like ffx-2 - no. not yet anyway. We cannot make the new game feature recognize the data in a a save file, we can however edit the new game stats, equipment and items, but that would be for every time you started a new game.

add more bosses. - possible. But you cannot add new bosses that have their own model, for instance, you COULD add a boss battle that has all three different SOLDIER members, give them different stats, even some dialogue.

add more materia, - no. cannot add to the materia list.

add more chocobo colours, have different for different colours for higher speed
and higher stamina in races. have a red chocobo used for crossing the desert at gold saucer to get back into under gold saucer. (useless i know, but stuff can be added) - no. not possible, yet anyway.

add options to have zach in the party after cloud has his memory fixed. - Possible, but too time consuming.

reason: It is possible to add or take away ANY member of the team as a active member, however, for people such as zack who is never fully in the team, you'll have to use the spare 'player' battle data slot (final battle cloud) and tell the game to accept that as a new player, but what is he without any fild appearances?
you'll have to use a programme called 'meteor' to open up the flevel.lgp, then for every single part of the game past the point you want him in, add the proper code for him, i suggest copying the code for someone like Yuffie then changing his dialogue to make him sound like Zack, then Viola! the game doen't crash when you have Zack in the team.
Although making Zack available as a member in the team will be trouble, for instance he;ll be borrowing cloud's limits (which can be good. smile.gif) but making him appear and everything will take so much time it simply isn't worth it if you don't know what you're doing, and even if you do, it will take forever.

add/remove stats/slots on weapons and armors. - possible. You have to open the kernal.bin and make your adjustments there

change some sprites, for vechiles as an example. - possible. VERY easily done. I myself did that before as a test, even possible to change the magic and limit break models.

and a few more little things. - depends on what it is you want, lol.

Okay, some images for proof of some things i was saying...

And now i am going to be quiet as my hands are sore.

Okay, all the tools needed to do stuff can be found at forums.qhimm.com
Although i myself compiled most of the tools you need to do just about any mod was compiled by myself a little while back and can be obtained here.
http://qhimm.zoomshare.com/files/FF7PC_modding_kit.rar

only tools aren't in it is meteor and a hex editor, everything else is in there, if you need any assistance with how to do some stuff, feel free to ask, but you will need a genuine copy of FF7PC in order to do things like this.

(I myself do not know how to add new bosses, ask the person who has the youtube account, he's pretty open about it and is willing to tell people what he did)

I hope this will be taken well and no one tells me not to post so much in a single post in future! ^^;

Touche, then - I didn't see from the descriptions at qhimm's downloads section anything that would do many of these things, but I also don't read the forums to see what the user community has produced.

I still advocate hackingthehackers please.

I apologize for the illegal activities, didn't mean any harm, however in my tiny defense, roms and emus are only illegal if you don't own a physical copy I believe (feel free to correct me in any case, and I know that your rules still apply so I won't do it again). I do own both station and game, so I didn't think about it.... in fact, I own 3 copies of FF7, all of which ONLY have disc one broke pinch.gif and I have like 4 PSX's in various states of repair... but I cannot speak for everyone, again my apologies for both my actions and for spinning off topic on a far too long post.

PS: if you could tell me how to have quoted you, I would, unfortunately, im a noob.

PPS: cool pics and hax0rz Murak Modder, but I like my Final Fantasy in its original package (save for some challenge mods for FF1-6) (yes, I own all of those too, I just like my computer better)

Edit
Okay, I really apologize and please ignore all defenses *coughexcusescough* previously mentioned.... (actually bothered to ya know... read all the rules and stuff, sorry again)

Hm, i never thought I'd hear Rangers51 say that.
I myself learnt that you can never simply go to a site and look under 'downloads' to see what it has to offer, besides, after getting the chocobo patch i myself went into the forum to thank the people for providing it, then when i was in it, i noticed there was some tools that were being made (Kimera was so young back then, it was only 0.7 and din;t have much ability to edit stuff.) and i began to try stuff like this and got to be decent with things like this.

As do i.

Edit:

MOD!!!! it isn't hax0rs or a hack!!!
I understand how you feel, i personally like the lego people and the original game, but after beating the game so many times, it just becomes boring and you have to do something to spice it up, i myself made Reno first battle harder and physically into myself, changed that weird pyramid to a cage and gave it 100 HP and some defence, it ended up being pretty cool.
(video of said changes here! - http://youtube.com/watch?v=bjFFUOgsi0g )
But i do like it a lot better in the original format.

(only game i can say otherwise for is FFIVDS (actually own, knowing Japanese is great if you're a gamer!) the reason for that being it had a mini map, on the GBA and PS1 version of it, i could never find my way around and got lost, no cheats, when i got to the moon first time around i was level 71 because of how long i was wandering around the world trying to find out where i was meant to be going.)
