My Last News Post For a Long Time...

Caves of Narshe Site News
Because of final exams I have not been around much as of late, and now that they are over and I'm back home on dialup I am going to be around even less most likely.  I am also going to be out of the country and away from an internet connection for the second half of summer studying at Cambridge University.  Due to my recent absence, and my future absence, I have decided to resign from the CoN Staff.  I feel that I do not deserve to call myself part of active staff when I'm not around much to do anything, mostly because the rest of the staff works so hard and does such a magnificent job with everything.  I don't think it is right for me to share the same title.

I have discussed my resignation with Josh, and he was kind enough to offer me a position back anytime.  I will most likely take him up on that sometime in the future, but probably not anytime soon, as my classes will only become more and more demanding in the years to come.

This does not mean I won't be around, I will be around as much as I can chatting it up and posting here, I still enjoy being here and I love discussing this and that with all of you.    I wish Josh and everyone else on staff the best, thanks for putting up with me when I wasn't doing much, and thanks for understanding why I must do this.

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Screens!

General Final Fantasy
Nintendo.com

Well kiddies, the first Final Fantasy game to be released for a main nintendo platform since Final Fantasy III(VI) back in '94 is set to hit Japan in January 2003, according to Nintendo.  Not many details are available about FF: CC for Gamecube, but if you click on the link there are two spiffy screenshots for your viewing pleasure.  One big detail that is mentioned is that up to 4 people can play together buy putting a GBA into their gamecube...  I'm not really sure on how this works because I don't own either system, but it sounds as if Nintendo is trying to revive the great idea of cooperative RPG/Adventuring that was used in Secret of Mana so very long ago...  If someone knows more about the GC and GBA and would like to explain this, then many cookies for you.   :)

FF I and II set to be released in the US!

Final Fantasy I
According to FFInsider.net, Square has just announced that Final Fantasies I and II (II never before released in the US) will be released in the US sometime next year.  The article also states that the games will be together on one disc, and sold at a "budgeted price."  The article doesn't say it, but the games will be released for the PSX, not PS2.  The games will be redone quite a bit, with new art and music to take advantage of the leap in technology.  I can't wait for this gem to come out.

Sony Enjoys 82% of the Japanese Console Market

Playstation 2
Gamesarefun.com Article

According to Bloomberg Japan (care of gamesarefun.com), Sony holds 82% of the Console market in Japan, selling 1.6 million PS2s and 110,000 PSOnes in the first half of this fiscal year, which is April 2002 - September 2002.  Nintendo's Game Cube only garnered 14% with 304,000 consoles, despite the fact that the GameBoy Advance owned the handheld market with 1.8 GBAs sold, 89% of that market.  Microsoft, however, is failing miserably in Japan, holding only a meager 4% of the market and selling 88,000 consoles.  They have struggled to unseat the Japanese gamemakers, and their games don't appeal to Japanese audiences.  However, I wouldn't count Microsoft out of the mix yet - after all, the great foriegn power Nintendo did unseat the Atari back in the 80s, and Sega gave Nintendo quite a run for their money as well in the early 90s, so who knows.  A corporation like Microsoft is capable of anything.

Michael Crichton Partners With Sega!

http://www.gamesarefun.com/newspro....,73286,

Michael Crichton, author of many famous sci-fi books like Jurassic Park, Lost World, Sphere, Airframe, and also the executive producer of ER, has partnered with Sega to develop a game.  No details are mentioned about the premise of the game, but most likely it will be Sci-fi like many of his creations.  In fact, the only details that are available are that the game will be available for release sometime around 2004.  When one of the greatest storytellers and one of the greatest video game manufacturers join hands, who knows what great things they can accomplish together?
