Square Enix Teams Up with Wizards of the Coast and TBS On Crossover, New IP

Square Enix
My social media has been bursting with this news: The long-running Magic: The Gathering card game from Wizards of the Coast will be releasing a Final Fantasy expansion on June 13th, 2025. Many cards have already been teased, and the artwork looks fantastic. It'll cost a pretty penny, though: a booster box is going for US$198 on the US Amazon Store currently, and the Collector's box is a whopping $775. Additionally, all of the Commander Deck options are currently sold out at Amazon.

In other news, Square Enix is teaming up with TBS, the Japanese broadcasting company, to create a game based on a new IP. No word on what kind of game it might be, but it is confirmed to be for worldwide audiences.

RoxasLunar The commander sets cost me a pretty penny. I only bought Cloud and Terra, although I also purchased the starter decks which are for the standard MtG system. The boosters felt like too much of a gamble.

Rangers51 Yeah, this is definitely one of those topics that never made it over here from Discord - I've been loving the new art and silly mechanics of some of the cards (at least as they've been described to me, as I'm not an MTG player). I was thinking hard about getting my hands on some of the cards as decoration, as the Final Fantasy-themed wall in my office is looking a little bare, but at the prices, there's no point at all to me.

Whatever they could be doing with a Japanese broadcasting network, that one is just well beyond my brain at this point. smile.gif

AltheaValara Figured I might as well update this with the TBS new IP: it's Killer Inn, a murder mystery action game.

I don't know ANYTHING about TBS, but when I heard about the collab, I certainly wasn't expecting this. So I'm rather surprised. Not at all intrigued by the game, though - I don't like games with a lot of blood so it's not something I'd choose to play.

St Khael This is the first time in over a decade that we've even considered playing MtG and I have to say, this set is great. Like, mechanically not just being "oh cool! ff cards!" I love the Terra commander deck and can't wait to actually start building a deck of my own. My husband is determined to have a Cecil deck and in his first booster pack pulled the Cecil card. I have to admit, though that I am mostly in it for the art. Hopefully a lot of these artists will be able to sell prints of their pieces.
