Sparkly Square Enix Merchandise
This might sound like I'm mocking, and to a small extent I suppose I am, but the jewelry and baubles worn by Final Fantasy characters has always been something that interested me, particularly in the cases where it illustrated something about the character's personality. Somewhere I even have a cheap knockoff of Griever that I got back in college, and if I had the disposable income for such a thing I might be tempted to partake in these new official designs as well.
Anyway, the interesting stuff is the merch and the prices, right? A lot of the silver pieces have yet to be released, but there are some cool ones. For $190, you can pick up a pendant that echoes the cog design of Cloud's gauntlets. For only $120, you can get a silver Cactuar or a silhouette of a Monster Octopus-style Chocobo. If you're more into the newer games, you can also get a L'Cie emblem or Serah's engagement pendant. And, since Square Enix have merchandising deals with other IPs, you can even spend a cool three hundred bucks to get yourself a Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman pendant, or even more for Raiden's emblem from Metal Gear Rising.
There's quite a bit more that I didn't mention, including a Shinra tie clip that I would totally wear if someone bought it for me (and if I ever had to wear neckties). If you're interested or just curious like I was, check out the link below.

I'm kinda blown away that there isn't a Squall Griever necklace on that list.

I hate you for exposing me to this. I absolutely want the tie clip and business card holder, and neither of them appear to be on the EU site.

Sweet Christmas it's a talking turtle! No seriously though, this has to be one of the coolest thing's I've ever seen. Too bad my wallet is hurting a little bit right now from the PSN store or i would definitely get one. I need that Silver Cactuar. ![]()

Quote (Rangers51 @ 12th November 2014 11:21) Do you have more money than you know what to do with? T_T My number one pieces of desired FF merch are Squall's jacket and Locke's bandanna, which I would most definitely wear together and thusly break reality in every conceivable way. Unsurprisingly, those two are not being offered by SE at this point in time.

This...this must be done! Anyway. I had a Griever, Cerberus, Cloudy Wolf and a Yuna pendant wandering around for a few years and lost them along the way. I wouldn't mind having a Griever again but I'm shocked both it and Cerberus aren't on this page. It's rather odd... At any rate, the chocobo pendant is adorable and the Shinra pieces are awesome! I'm a little surprised that they cast Serah's pendant, though. I know it's a popular piece and that several cosplayers have figured out how to replicate it, but I wasn't expecting silver. It would sell like crazy even if they just cast it in stainless steel like game jewelry usually is. That's kind of awesome. : 3

Its shape is fanciful, but in a way that kind of makes it look like it was really designed by a jewelry designer. It makes me wonder which one is most wearable in mixed company, who won't immediately know what it is. I could see Snow's pendant being popular because it's got a cat. ![]()

That "wearable in mixed company" thing is definitely a useful thing -- I've generally found myself favoring fandom stuff that I could "hide" in convenient ways. Never really had the money to spend on stuff like this -- especially not expensive stuff like what's on Squenix's Jewelry page -- but I've always found it interesting to ask what i could display to a non-fandom audience and get away with it on the basis of good aesthetics alone. And I think that zigzaggy Lightning pendant looks pretty decent on its own too. Anyhow, these items are pretty interesting. I don't have the money for them, nor do I usually wear necklaces or otherwise have use for these items. Not to mention that they're mainly from games I'm less familiar with...now if they had a Chrono Trigger Gate Key pendant, maybe... And why would I want to associate myself with the Shinra Co. name? Granted I haven't played a good bit of FFVII but I don't remember hearing that it gets much redeemed. Maybe in Advent Children or something? That said, the idea of having a tie clip or business card holder with that logo does seem like a very nifty idea -- not to mention that the choice is between an evil megacorp and a terrorist group, and it makes complete sense that the megacorp has the swag.
