Site Poll

Caves of Narshe Site News
I normally don't use news to draw attention to site polls on the main site, but in this case I'd like to. Please visit any page of the content area of the site, and vote on the poll regarding Adopt a Chocobo. We're reconsidering its place and future with CoN, and we'd like your input. Thank you.

alphasmart If it could be used on more than just a website (i.e. for if you don't have a website), then it could be good. If you could incorporate it into the forum in some way (like being able to put it in your sig for example...) then we will all (or me at least) explode with happiness.

Zephir But... but it's got such a big place in CoN's history... sad.gif

*voted Keep*
SilverMaduinComment 3: 2005-04-26 08:27
SilverMaduin Hmmm... there is room for improvement, but my only idea is that the chocobo would mature over some years (yes, I said years)...

PhoenixComment 4: 2005-04-26 17:10
Phoenix I would host a chocobo on my site, if I had a site.
MimicComment 5: 2005-04-26 19:35
Mimic To be honest, I don't like the idea, thus did I vote so. I've never been one for that sort of thing, though. To me, atleast, it seems kinda pointless.

Seconded. Other than having a link to your site posted (and very little attention drawn to it, if any) and the oh-so prized privilege of posting a chocobo jpg on your site, it doesn't offer much. I suppose die-hard chocobo fans would enjoy it, but I hardly see a point when I could just put up my own chocobo pics on my own site...

You might have been around long enough to note that back when we started it, the web was a much different place. Of course, you would have been 13 at the time, so you probably didn't care. smile.gif

Really, such "adoptions" were quite active back then, and really, they are now for smaller scale and personal websites, with some modifications to the general process over time.

To some, the "oh-so prized privilege" actually is something they like, the condescension of others notwithstanding. CoN even had one of our own until about the middle of 2001, I think. smile.gif

But at the end of the day, that's the sort of input I'm looking for with this poll. It is probably abundantly clear that we're debating the future of the project on the site, and we'd definintely like to know why we should or should not keep it, or what would make it viable for another couple years. Then we can more properly analyze what further work needs to go into it and if we want to take those steps. By and large, we know that the forum members are not the ones who would participate anyway, because a good portion of you folks don't have websites, and those that do tend to be attempting some sort of higher purpose with them - I know I wouldn't put one on my portfolio site. So maybe the forumgoers aren't the best market with which to check, but I appreciate your votes on the site poll nonetheless.
Duo_DragoonComment 9: 2005-04-27 15:58
Duo_Dragoon I like Chocobo adoptions except for code to me is a pain. I just usually post the image of my adoption and then do some neat little text about the creature and link at at the end. I think that kind of thing is cool. No big hassle. Especially with this sites save the image to another place then link it to your page and a few other details I dont remember. It sounds like a genius thing. Sorry I think if you do put it up simplify the process for people like me that are boneheads.
Jlombardi13Comment 10: 2005-04-28 02:47
Jlombardi13 I don't think it's a bad thing. If each owner links back to the site it could be beneficial for you. It only takes one visit to make a new member for life, basically. It's not exactly as popular as it was (I had a couple of them 4 years ago) but I can't see it being negative... the occasional visit to your site would make up for it, I'd think.
Elena1999Comment 11: 2005-04-28 06:49
Elena1999 I say leave it the way it is. If it isn't widely used, it won't take up a lot of time, but even if a few people still like it, then keep it. I doubt it's hurting the site in any way. If I had a site I'd put one back up but I think I'm through with trying to have a website.
