Seiken Densetsu DS and Seiken Densetsu 4 Announced
Two new installments to the beloved Seiken Densetsu series are on the way, and it's about time! Seiken Densetsu DS: Children of Mana and the long awaited Seiken Densetsu 4 were recently announced by Square Enix as part of the company's World of Mana project. As the title of the first game implies, Children of Mana will be released on the Nintendo DS heldheld, continuing the series tradition of 2D graphics. Seiken Densetsu 4 will feature highly-detailed 3D graphics, but it is currently unknown on what platform it will appear.
While no US release dates are in sight for either game, Seiken Densetsu DS: Children of Mana will be on sale in Japan in 2006. No release date has been confirmed for Seiken Densetsu 4.

This makes two games that make me wish I had a DS. I guess we'll see. If SD DS is anything like Sword of Mana for the GBA, my envy evaporates. I'm betting on a release for the Revolution or Gamecube for SD4. Nintendo has traditionally carried the series (with Legend of Mana being the only exception, right?), and the action-RPG style seems more in line with the games that Nintendo brings around. It would be nice to see it on multiple systems.

I absolutely loved SoM/SD2 and SD3, and enjoyed the other two games in the series (wasn't Legend of Mana SD4? Or was it never given the title?) for the most part. If Square-Enix is going to revive a long-dormant series like this, they probably have big plans for it; I'm excited.

Sweeet. I'll probably look into it. SD2 and 3 were killer. Never played 1. I'd be willing to bet 4 is gonna be something godly. Congrats on the News Editor position ![]()

http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q4-2005/100305a.html The development team seems pretty all-star, at least for the DS version. Kouchi Ishii, Seiken Densetsu's principal creator, is back in a producing role. Masato Kato, storyboard and scenario writer for Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, and Xenosaga is back with Square-Enix (he rejoined the company sometime last year) and is going to be writing the storyline. They also brought over the same character designer from FF Tactics Advance and Legend of Mana and a committee of music composers that have worked on the original Seiken Densetsu, the SaGa series, the original Final Fantasy Tactics, and the Ogre Battle series. Overall, I'm even more anxious to get a DS now. Do you think that this means that Square-Enix is going to stick to Nintendo's handheld in the future, or that the PSP will get some Squenix goodness too? It's really too early to tell, but everyone loves a speculator.

I was reading over the development team list earlier and I gotta agree - that's a very impressive crew. Although I always possess a little doubt in my mind to fall back on (even if I say otherwise), I'm fairly certain this'll be one fantastic game. Square-Enix no doubt enjoys the inventive features of the DS, allowing them to boldly go where no game has gone before (err... sans the dramatics). Plus the fact that Nintendo has been the handheld king for years and is still going strong leads me to the obvious conclusion that they're currently taking advantage of what they predict will rack them up the biggest profits. Personally, I believe the company'll still cater to the PSP. Considering they've been caught up lately in making ports, remakes, and continuations of games and series mostly/predominantly featured on Nintendo consoles, it's only a matter of time before Sony's handheld gets its turn. But who knows. Like you said, no one can really say for sure at this point. Quote (MogMaster) Congrats on the News Editor position ![]() Aw. Thank you. ![]()
