PSP "Lite" Coming Soon?
According to UK Sony rep Ray Maguire, any future "iterations" of the portable gaming device will be improved with an aim toward making it "smaller, lighter" while preserving the current screen size.
No mention of what effect, if any, this will have on the current model's price has been made.

If they make the current version $50 and package FFT with it, I'm there.

Eh, sounds interesting, but I still think that the PSP in any guise will suck. Then again, I'm still mad that Nintendo only seems to get remakes of old FFs, so I'm a bit biased.

The movie selection currently sucks. The screen on the "lite" version may or may not get even smaller than the current PSP's. No, I don't think this move is going to bail the PSP out of the colelctive hole it's in, though it might get them closer to breaking even again.

Me, too, just ahead of you in the line. ![]() As much gravity as FFT'd have to make me buy the handheld, its system peers really don't interest me much outside of MGS:PO and VP:L. But, maybe there'll be some good things in even smaller packages this time 'round.

I have always thought about getting one but never did this "Lite" might make me, this is a bit off topic but does the PSP have the ability to run programs like emulators?

Quote I have always thought about getting one but never did this "Lite" might make me, this is a bit off topic but does the PSP have the ability to run programs like emulators? Yes, I think so. But yeah, I'm not so drawn in to this... I mean, the size change isn't going to motivate me to purchase it. Then again, I have friends who'll purchase this (if it comes to happen) just because it's the 'new' thing for the PSP. It's not that I don't have the money to throw-away for a PSP, it's just there's nothing out there (in releases) that motivates me enough to purchase one. They should've stuck to pushing one main console, IMO.

The newer firmware broke that ability, I think. I could be wrong. They did add an emulation function for PSone games though, which is pretty nifty. With a couple of simple programs anyone can just pop in a PSone disc into their comp, rip it, and then convert it to PSP format. I don't have a large enough memory card to take adavantage of it yet, but as soon as I do I think I might just sell my PSone and keep the PSP as my primary for the classics. ![]()
