PS3 Price Cut, Sort Of
Five hundred bucks is still pretty expensive, but hey, five hundred is less than six hundred, right?

Something I have never really thought of, maybe someone out there knows: what are the specs for the hard drives? Is this something that you can tack in your own drive, how you could with some PS2s? If so, Sony would be better served to start selling a roll-your-own box with warranty limitations.

i dont have much high-teck stuff at my house, so if i would get a PS3, it would be the smaller of the three. is there a price drop on that one, or is that still $500? or wait, was it $400?

You could always see what the price looks like when those games do come out! I'll still consider one when there's anything compelling to make me do so. I have never really bought the "It's a bargain for what you get!" argument. It's like going to buy a packet of paper, and finding it costs £1000: "Why does this paper cost £1000?" "It's really good value! Each sheet also functions as a small thermonuclear device!" "But I just want paper."

I was planning on getting a PS3 at the end if August anyway, so this price cut comes at a nice time. The exact price cut in the UK has not yet been decided. Apparently we have to wait until Thursday for that. Here's hoping it's at least cut by £50!

Well its about time, Im still waiting for the 360's Price to go down, depending on if FFXIII is multiplatform (I heard from someone it was going to go on the 360 as well) I might get a 360 or a PS3 at some point in the future.

Quote Im still waiting for the 360's Price to go down, depending on if FFXIII is multiplatform (I heard from someone it was going to go on the 360 as well) some of the FFXIII games will be on other platforms. i wouldn't expect the 360 to go down though. I was talking with one of the doctors in the department I work in at the hospital about games the other day, and he mentioned that PS3 did their Hard Drives right. He said that when it came out, he bought the cheaper one, and just happened to have a 250 Gig drive sitting around (he and his wife are both radiologists, so money is no big thing) He said he popped it in, and the PS3 rom data immediately identified that the drive was from an outside source and asked if he would like to format it to use with the PS3. I have to give props that sony would anticipate and adapt for that, cuz believe me, if I get a PS3, it'll be the cheap one, and I'll try to reverse engineer one of those 1 Tera usb external drives (if it's the same size as a generic drive. ![]()

SATA would make more sense, but I don't know the answer. If it's IDE, I don't even know of an IDE-based 1TB hard drive in existence, so hook me up with a link, eh?
laszlow | Comment 14: 2007-07-10 18:15 |
I know that the pre-installed harddrive is SATA, but only the 60 gig model has a space for flash memory. The 80 gig probably does as well.

I'm not really excited. I don't really plan on getting one. I'm still waiting on a price drop for the PS2. Meaning I'll probably wait until well into the PS4 run before getting a PS3. PS: Any word on a PS2 drop?
