Nintendo Revolution Virtual Console Updates

Wii
At the recent Nintendo conference Satoru Iwata revealed many things featuring upcoming Nintendo products, including of course, the Nintendo Revolution. Up until now all we've known is that it would support NES to N64 on the virtual console. Of course, there were hushed whispers and rumors about Sega really liking the idea and wanting to put their games onto it.

Well, it's no longer a rumor. The Revolution's virtual console will now offer downloads from not only Sega, but the TurboGrafx-16. It won't be every game, of course. But they're going to get all the best ones.

It's things like this that make me want a Revolution more than I already do. And I mean, I really want one.

SaffireWeapon Before I was thinking about getting a Revoltion, now I'm definately getting one... like Mr. Burns would say... "Excellent!"

Phunbaba Makes me excited to get all the Genesis games I missed out on. I personally want the Phantasy star games.

karasuman But do you mean "all the best ones" as in all the ones that made the most money? If so, you won't see a rerelease of Earthbound on the Revolution, at least not in the U.S.

Rangers51 I think by "all the best ones" he was referring specifically to the Sega and TG16 games, but I could be wrong.

Saffire: You're the biggest drooling Revo fanboy I've seen, don't try to make it sound like you only just now decided to get one. tongue.gif

On topic, I must say I'm shocked that they're going to do TG16 games. I thought the PC Engine had completely gone into the mists of time.

laszlow If Castlevania: Rondo of Blood gets cleared to go on the Revolution, then I will have to get one... eventually. I have my doubts, as it's a Konami game, but esti esperanto, right?
GearsComment 7: 2006-03-24 01:57
Gears They just make this system better and better the more I hear about it. They could raise the price by $100 and I'd still want it.
SaffireWeaponComment 8: 2006-03-24 02:13
SaffireWeapon It's like having an Omni Console, man, I havn't been this exited for a console since back in 1995 when the PSone came out
ultimageComment 9: 2006-03-24 08:28

He revealed that in addition to Nintendo library titles it will include Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx-16 games. He said that "Not all of them will be available but the best of them will."

To quote the article I linked.

Barrylocke PleasePleasePLEASE get Earthbound on their. If not, I'll cry sad.gif

I'm definetly considering getting a Revolutioin. The Virtual Console and cheaper pricetag than PS3 alone makes it a must buy.

I was thinking the exact same thing. However, I've heard something about concern over whether the CD-using thingy-or-whatnot feature of the Turbografx (a.k.a. PC Engine) will be available (and for what I know, Konami will have to redo the music to make it a smaller game).

I mean, I can emulate a lot of things, but Dracula X Rondo of Blood even gives me trouble. Of course if I do get the Revolution, I'll probably want to get whatever adapter that lets me play GBA/DS games on it...wait, never mind. I want the GBA/DS anyway so I can play FFTA on long trips without having to fish out my laptop. But if I do get the Revolution I'd likely get a bunch more old games just so I'd have the chance to play them *actually* on console.

I wonder how well they'll be received, since many NES games are kinda...a bit pixelly for today's tastes.

laszlow I almost newsposted this, but decided against it, as it's definitely part of this body of information.

Some unfortunate news: Rareware says that Nintendo can't have Rev ports of any game that Rare owns the exclusive rights to. This means that Jet Force Gemini, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, and Conker's Bad Fur Day aren't allowed. However, Nintendo owns exclusive rights to Donkey Kong, so all of the DK Country games, Diddy Kong Racing, and DK 64 are all eligible for Revolution emulation.

I am disappointed by this, as my favorite Rare game is JFG, but it's comforting that Rare can never completely abandon Nintendo thanks to Nintendo's stranglehold on anything with DK's name on it.

FallingHeart Another issue about this has been weather or not Microsoft can put Rare's games up on their XBLA service, and I've heard a few things. I was just wondering if anyone knew weather or not they could do this to games that rare developed but nintendo published.

DrkMagimaster282 I really have been awaiting the revolution like a fat boy does cake...The news of some rare games having no import baffled me as to why they wouldnt do things like perfect dark, but then i remembered x-box 360, and the realizations hit me like a baseball does charlie brown.

Im glad i got the actual cartridge for the n64 hit!...happy like that fat boy with cake from earlier...he both got his cake, and ate it!
