Guitar Hero DS Preliminary Song List Announced

A preliminary song list for Guitar Hero: On Tour, the DS adaptation for the franchise due out in the United States on June 22, has been released. In addition, over the last several weeks, more details have been released about how the guitar mechanism will function. An adapter plugs into the GBA slot of the DS and it is held vertically like a book, with the GBA slot to the right side. Strumming the guitar will be performed via the touchscreen. Additionally, there will be microphone functionality, including activating your star power and blowing flames out on the guitar during battle mode.

The functionality of the game sounds extremely fun, with the buttons on the side of the system and strumming with the touchscreen. The songlist, however, leaves me with a little to be desired. Of the 15 songs announced, I am prematurely excited for just three of them. Fortunately, there will be at least ten more songs yet to come, and as another bonus, nearly all of the tracks will be master tracks so we don't have to deal with terrible covers, as we did in GH2. There has been local wireless play announced, but I would be much more interested in seeing some DS Wifi play as well. All-in-all, they're discovering new ways to bring out more function in the already-amazing DS.

Also it's going to retail at $50. Yoaaurgh.

Harlequin The song list looks worse than dog crap that's been sitting out for a few hours. Looking at it does not make me excited at all. "Helicopter" by Bloc Party is a decent song, but I believe it was on GH3 and so was "Rock and Roll All Nite" (except it wasn't a cover). As a semi-Nirvana fan, I'm glad they're putting on "Breed" instead of "Smells Like...", even if I don't like it too much. However, I do like that one No Doubt song. And thank whatever higher power there is out there that it's the master tracks on it. Daughtry, in my opinion, is a bad decision (I find them really repulsive).

The fact that "All Star" by Smash Mouth is on it made it a bit cooler, but I'm not going near this game. If I want to play guitar hero, I'll go and rock out on my own PS2, where I can blast the music and not worry about losing that pick. Even if those extra features and differences do look interesting.

leilong I totally missed this topic when it popped up initially! I've been foaming at the mouth for this game for the last month!

And as tomorrow is the release date... YAY!

According to Scorehero... which has been adding on info as they get it, and has been confirming all of their sources as they come out, here's the setlists for the main game:

Quote
Confirmed bands / songs (Now broken down into Tiers!):
(perhaps not in the correct order inside of that Tier, but they should be Tiered off correctly)
5-30: The Joystiq article states that there are only 4 Tiers (4 songs each +1 encore). So this list should be complete for that (I guess the rest are just Bonus songs?). - WRONG
6-20: Proof pictures around the internet, are saying there is FIVE Tiers

Tier 1 - Subway:
Ok Go - Do What You Want
No Doubt - Spiderwebs
Jet - Are You Gonna Be my Girl
Blink 182 - All the Small Things
Twisted Sister - We’re Not Gonna Take it

Tier 2 - Rooftop:
Nirvana - Breed
Smash Mouth - All Star
Rick Springfield - Jessie’s Girl
Pat Benatar - Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Maroon 5 - This Love

Tier 3 - Parade:
Los Lonely Boys - Heaven
Bloc Party - Helicopter
The Doobie Brothers - China Grove
KISS (cover by Line 6) - Rock and Roll All Nite
Daughtry - What I Want

Tier 4 - Greek Arena:
Jet Airliner (cover by Wavegroup) - Steve Miller Band
Black Magic Woman (cover by Line 6) - Santana
Stray Cat Strut - Stray Cats
La Grange (cover by Line 6) - ZZ Top
Youth Gone Wild (cover by Wavegroup) - Skid Row

Tier 5 - Battleship:
Ozzy Osbourne - I Don't Want to Stop
Incubus - Anna Molly
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Knock me Down
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Pride And Joy
Lynyrd Skynyrd (cover by Wavegroup) - I Know A Little

Other Confirmed bands / songs (Not yet Tiered off / Bonus Songs?):
MAdemoiselle K - Ca Me Vexe
Europe - Rock The Night

I love that Helicopter is making a return, as I LOVE Bloc Party since I discovered them... through GH.

KISS sucks, and it sucks that they wasted a slot for a song on that garbage. dry.gif

Everyone is all upset about All the Small Things, saying that there were way better blink-182 songs that could have been used, but here's the thing: the DS is smaller than the other systems for guitar hero, giving all the small things that fun ironic twist. Woot for cleverness!

I got the No Doubt DLC pack on GH3 for my 360, and am happy that Spiderwebs finally made it somewhere.

All Star will not be challenging, but it will be fun!

I think that this is the most well-rounded GH game to come out, especially since it seems to be almost intentionally lacking all of the metal that makes itself overly present in the other games. Yea, it's hard. We get it. But people play games to have fun.
