Final Fantasy Dissidia Details

Dissida: Final Fantasy
Some scans have been released for Final Fantasy Dissidia, the Final Fantasy game headed for the PSP. In a bit of a shocking twist, the game appears to be a 3D brawler, now there's not much to go on other than the scan from Jump Magazine, but it does definitely have the looks of a brawler.

The game shot seems to have two pictures of two seperate fights, one involving what appears to be Cecil and Golbez, and the next featuring Zidane and Kuja. On second glance the first two might actually be Garland vs The Emperor from FF1 and FF2 respectively. I can't be certain.

Any chance we could get one of our resident CoNners that can understand Japanese to translate this?

NeoEx-Death That looks pretty interesting. It really better be a good move from Square, because I always wanted to see a FF fighting game with all the characters from their games since I've played my first one. If it turns out good, I'm so friggin gettin a PSP.

Elessar Jump's not off the rocker, Square's already announced it at their big expo covered (in English) here.

Amongst the more interesting things are an Expanded Version of Advent Children (perhaps now there's... story!) and Crisis Core preview (with Aeris in all her prequel glory). Dissidia appears to be similar to Super Smash Brothers, so hopefully they emphasize fun rather than sword measurement contests between the various fandoms.

But the one thing that really gets my blood pumping?

Joint-Project. Tri-Ace. Square.

Yep, it's Star Ocean 4. wub.gif *squeeeee*

Actually, the dude with horns is a "Warrior of Light" (Light Warrior!) from FF1, and he is indeed fighting Garland. And now I can feel happy that two years of Japanese have provided some kind of knowledge, perhaps, to someone, somewhere. Maybe.

FallingHeart I heard somewhere it was a persistent fighter, so your characters will have levels and stuff. I'll see if I can find where I heard that.

....Expanded Version of Advent Children (perhaps now there's... story!) ....

This is the BBC News at 10. Tonight's headlines:

Pigs fly.
Hell freezes over.
Sane Human found who actually enjoyed The Spirits Within.

So, a fighting game, eh? Hmm. THis could polarise the masses. Some might want another RPG with little plot and a cast of characters in a setting where women are women, men look like women, and the bad guy generally winds up in charge of an "empire" of some sort. Others may be refreshed by the change.

But there's ironically only one way to settle this.... FIGHT!!!!

In all honesty, this might actually be intresting. It hopefully means we get to kick seven shades of excrement out of our most hated characters...
KingDelitaComment 6: 2007-05-13 05:13
KingDelita really this could be done very well. First, and the most important thing is the roster - a huge roster would be great. (square only I hope - no disney characters please though unique KH characters should be in there) After that, it would be nice for the characters to all be unique. If the characters advance - awesome, if not - that's okay too. If they do though, I'd like the customization to be deep, even though it's a fighter.
anyhow, I'm excited about it.

Lothar Goldfist IGN reported a little bit back that Sephiroth was to make an appearance as well. They haven't said if it's in a fighting capacity or just as a cameo.

Initially I was stoked about the idea, but I don't know though. We all remember how Ehrgeiz fared and we can only hope that Squeenix has had time enough to refine the methods concerning the fighting genre since then.

So long as either Celes or Terra make an appearance, I'll be happy.

Hold on... was Spirits Within that bad? I oddly remember it being better than Advent Children in plot quality, though I haven't seen it since it came out.

It'd be funny to see all of Squaresoft's cast next to each other, and people suddenly realize how similar everyone looks when they're forced to identify characters by the sword.
Zero_HawkComment 10: 2007-05-16 21:09
Zero_Hawk As long as Kain, Sabin, and maybe a chocobo are playable, i'll be happy.
Dark Paladin DannyComment 11: 2007-05-18 13:32
Dark Paladin Danny Kain, Cecil (Paladin), Sabin and Kefka please
GanolinkComment 12: 2007-05-22 18:14
Ganolink Wow, this sounds pretty interesting... Reminds me of super smash brothers, just with final fantasy characters, i agree that it needs a HUGE roster of balanced characters, the more the better (aslong as they are balanced ofcourse!)
Death PenaltyComment 13: 2007-06-09 16:09
Death Penalty i think that a brawler with final fantasy characters has potential to be a great game. so many great characters. if sqaure does this right, it could be as good as smash bros, maybe even better.

i hope they put it on a different system though. i dont have a PSP...

Not to rip off another game, but I have DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2 for my Wii, and the stat customization paired with the transformations that are done in that game would make a great reference for leveling up. A fighting game where the more you use one character, they have advantage over everyone else? That's not fun, especially if you play alot with one character, and then have people over to play. I'll take Cloud, and I win! Lame.

Make it so that the leveling happens either by command or through battle during the fight. Yes, the better player will be higher level in the end... unless there was a limit break style transformation. I like the idea of getting the crap kicked out of you, and then unleashing all hell. It would even the game out a bit.
Death PenaltyComment 15: 2007-06-09 19:01
Death Penalty it would be cool if it was an option: level up, or just regular, good old brawl
