CoNcast Episode Sixbox One

Podcast
We recorded just after the announcement last week of the Xbox One. So, naturally, we joined in on tearing it up a bit. We also talked a little bit about what Square Enix might be willing to do for the console, but it's a little hard to tell since we barely know what they're doing for any consoles right now.

Additionally, I'm sick through the whole thing, Tiddles might be outing himself as an eBay scammer, and we had a couple minor hiccups in recording because we tried to get together over a new medium this time around. We do get into a lot of good detail about what's happening with the new Microsoft machine, though, so enjoy!

Chewbekah Entertaining. I didn't watch much of the Xbox One reveal, but I almost felt like I didn't need to. I had basically given up on my Xbox 360 and felt it had been a rather wasteful purchase. As much as I tried to tell myself I loved it for Kinect, I never played with the Kinect or any of the other games I had for it for that matter. But it really doesn't seem like I missed much not watching the Xbox One reveal.

I did have one comment to make though, you mentioned that Final Fantasy XIV was being released for PC before the PS3 version, but all the pre-order sites give the same release date, unless you mean that previous owners of the PC version will get their PC updated before that August 27th release date.

Rangers51 Ah, I didn't realize (obviously) that the dates for both were the same. Maybe I was thinking of the fact that the betas were staggered? Ah, well, anyone listening to us for consistency or accuracy... biggrin.gif

Glenn Magus Harvey I feel kinda bad for console manufacturers, and I know I haven't been in the console market for many years now, due mainly to lack of funds, but I'm definitely not very sympathetic to the direction that things are going anyway.

Here's the consoles I would likely have bought had I had the money (and time for gaming), starting with the 32-bit generation:
* Nintendo 64 (for Star Fox 64 and a few other games, most likely)
* Nintendo GameCube (the Metroid Prime series is on here, as well as Mega Man and Mega Man X collections, MM Network Transmission, Smash Melee, ToSymphonia, and later Zelda Twilight Princess)
* Nintendo Game Boy Advance (well, this has a ton of games I like, though i would probably still just emulate because I like using a larger but portable screen on my computer)
* Sony Playstation 1 (a belated purchase due to US-released JRPGs migrating here to some extent)
* Sony Playstation 2 (and US-released JRPGs were present here too, plus ICO)
* Nintendo DS (also has several games I like)
* Nintendo 3DS (this does, too)
* Nintendo Wii or WiiU (for a few games that I want, though I might sell my theoretical GameCube if I get a Wii)
* Sony Playstation Portable (for FFT Lion War and Dracula X Chronicles and maybe Trails in the Sky)

And that's about it. Never was interested much in the XBox or XB360.

PS3 had far too high of a price point and I can't really think of much that I'm interested in on it (Valkyria Chronicles is the only thing that comes to mind; checking my list of things to play shows also Resonance of Fate and White Knight Chronicles...still fewer than my PS2 entries). Additionally, I don't need a box for watching TV or blu-rays or stuff, because I don't watch much TV or movies anyway.

Wii is an interesting console but I would likely have waited for its successor to see if there was backward compatibility, because I would have gotten a GC and not needed backward compatibility for that. But I don't know how the Wii and the Wii U do their virtual console stuff.

PSV's lack of backward compatibility makes it less useful even as a replacement PSP. Only reason so far for me to get a PSV is to get one themed after the character Vita from Magical GIrl Lyrical Nanoha, and Vita's not even my favorite character anyway.

The XB1 seems to be going roughly the same way as the XB360, plus the PS3 because I'm not really interested in the "integrated entertainment center" stuff. Not interested in (most) FPSes, not interested in (most) spectator sports, don't watch (most) TV other than the news.

And why can't they just call it the XBox 720? And how is "Ouya" pronounced? "Oh yeah"?
