Completing the US Final Fantasy Series?

General Final Fantasy
According to RPGamer, Nintendo has reportedly asked Square Enix to produce a new version of Final Fantasy III for the Game Boy Advance. As the story suggests, Final Fantasy III hasn't seen the light of day since the original Famicom release - the Wonderswan Color version was badly hampered by the premature demise of the system.

Final Fantasy III has never been released in the United States. However, if there's a GBA version done in Japan, there's very little stopping it from coming here. The GBA, unlike the WSC, has brand identity and a stranglehold on the portable gaming market. Given the massive brand appeal of the Final Fantasy franchise and the novelty of the particular title, it seems reasonable that we could finally have a full official translation of this poor forgotten game sooner than we thought.

Glenn Magus Harvey I second this idea. I have played (part of) all three Final Fantasy games for the NES, and I was surprised that Square didn't re-release FFIIIj along with FFIV when they produced FF Chronicles (was it that one?), instead pairing FFIV with Chrono Trigger, or when they produced FF Origins and didn't include the third NES FF. FFIIIj is the one of those three that I actually have had the patience to play through, and it's not bad at all. The gameplay feels very different from that of future FFs, but that's not saying it's bad at all--it's very well done. This game also contains the FF series's second installment of the class system, between FFI and FFVj, so it's also significant in that sense.

High praise goes to Nintendo for suggesting the idea to Squenix, and high praise will also go to Squenix if they accept the idea.

Dark Paladin Good. FFIII is a very good game. It's tied with I as my favorite NES FF, and they are both up there on my FF list.
I just hope they don't toy with the translation like they did when the SNES FFs were brought to PSX, and I also hope they don't completely remake it like they did with FFO

Sephiroth I say it's about time they released it in the US...I've been hoping they would do this for along time.

You can pretty much bet that it will be remade. It has already been remade for 16-bit for the WSC, and I would seriously doubt that they'd go back to the 8-bit version now.

Oh. I thought FFIII had no remakes.

IIRC, it was remade for thre WSC, but the handheld went under before the game was ready to be released.

DisasterChild8 I've only briefly played FF3 (and by briefly I mean, 5 min) so I'd be very excited if it came out in the US. Plus, the GBA is one of my all time favorite systems so it would be the perfect system to realease it on.

The_Pink_Nu1 I played FF3 for about a quarter of the way through the game, then I somehow became too busy wink.gif It was really fun though, and probably would top the first FF game IMO where NES FFs are concerned. Of course, FF2j sucked. At any rate, I'd love to see FF3 come here, and I don't mind if it's remade (as far as graphics go) really. One way or the other's fine with me, just so long as it is the same game.

FraudulentTommah I love FF3 and fully support this action.
tenshi/akumaComment 12: 2004-04-24 14:09
tenshi/akuma I would love to have an authentic FF on GBA. I've always liked FFIII (especially the music; FFIII's music is way under-rated). Here's hoping Squenix agrees.
EjotyComment 13: 2004-04-24 22:22
Ejoty I'm glad we might get FF3, but... then I'll have to buy a GBA. They should make a PSX/PS2 one for my convenience.

Personally, I would prefer a remake a la Origins, but either way I'd be happy to play it; I could then complete all numbered FF's excluding FF11.

Figaro I've been saying how awesome it would be to have FFVI released on GBA, and that they should do it. Guess I'm getting my wish. smile.gif

Awesome.
