Capcom: Back in Black

Capcom has announced that it has posted a profit of 919 million yen ($8.5 million US) for the first six months of its fiscal year.

As we reported last April, Capcom suffered a suffered a loss 19.5 billion yen ($163 million US) total last year. In spite of the profits, sales have continued to fall (in particular Megaman X7 has had sold under their expectations). Their arcade coin-op division made up for this, however.

Capcom expects sales to pick up in the second half of its fiscal year with the upcoming releases of Resident Evil Outbreak and Onimusha 3.

Maybe the lackluster sales of Megaman X7 will encourage Capcom to branch out a little further, especially if Resident Evil Outbreak falters as well. That or release a Capcom Vs. Fighter with some higher resolution 2D sprites instead of the same old recycled ones from the mid-1990s (Look at the Sammy's Guilty Gear series for some good 2D sprites). I'll be sort of hypocritical now by saying that I am looking forward to the Megaman compilation, however.

edge murasame That is a huge loss. I haven't bought Megaman X7, but it looked like a fairly good game to me. I must have been wrong. Their Resident Eveil game will hopefully be a great game. I don't want to see Capcom fail as Sega did.

Ejoty Whoa! Yes, it's truly huge, and it sucks extra hard in my opinion. I'm quite thankful for Capcom. Since the coin-op section helped them the most then I feel effective. I regularly played Capcom VS SNK 2 in the mall in Danbury Connecticut before I moved. I'll tell you something else too; the Brazilian guys who hang out there must be laying down quarters a-plenty because, boy, are they whooping some butt.

I sure hope they stay afloat. However, I've not even seen anything of Mega Man X7. I don't trust the newer post P.S.one companies. Capcom is one of the few remaining companies from the 8bit to 16bit era who consistently put out quality titles, and I still trust them despite my playing Breath of Fire 2. tongue.gif

AndrewTS Sadly, I wouldn't be looking forward to any new 2D fighters. Even in Japan, they don't sell well. Sure, there is a sizable amount of 2D loyalists, but they probably won't be putting a whole lot of effort or priority in making new 2D fighting series, or a traditional Street Fighter/Darkstalkers/etc sequel.

Truth be told, they've been lazy as hell lately when they do make 2D fighters.
