A Hearty Helping of Screens

Final Fantasy XIII
It's been a rather sluggish period for RPG news as of late, but fortunately enough plenty of the latest, juicy media regarding three highly anticipated Final Fantasy titles has been unveiled for the eye candy-craving populace:

First up is a generous portion of cinematic and gameplay shots featuring the blade-and-bullet-wielding heroine of Final Fantasy XIII, mainly engaged in a battle similar to - if not directly from - the trailer. Following close behind are several screens á la Tetsuya Nomura's RPG, bound for the PlayStation 3 like its counterpart, of which few details are currently known - Final Fantasy Versus XIII. The prominent figure in each screen is a black-clad, dark haired man of questionable significance.

Finally, a copious batch of Final Fantasy III DS media has revealed the ever approaching remake - gearing up for its North American launch this September - in its nigh full glory. Among these recent shots are additional battle screens, in-game scenes, and job artwork including that of the Viking, Ranger, Monk, and Geomancer classes.

Dragon KingComment 1: 2006-06-28 12:51
Dragon King I have been waiting for the new FF.But just screen shots from the second one makes me wanna buy a PS3.....even more. It's like a big rush hour for consoles, first the PS3 then the WII. I seen some FF3 ones googling for FF pictures.
I seriously cant wait till the FF3.

Silverlance ...Yuna with a gun/blade? Kadaj (or some other guy from AC) with a sword? Square needs to find some new character designers; the concept is getting kinda stale. ;P Either it's a chick with an innocent face and short slightly spiky brown hair, or a guy dressed in black with white hair. I'm surprised they didn't hang onto the Spiky Blond Hair with a Huge Sword character design for more than one game though... or did they?

III DS looks very promising though!

NeoEx-Death I dig the FF3j shots, but not FF13. sad.gif

Nomura really needs to stop designing these metrosexual looking men. The more I take a look at his new character designs, the more I feel depressed.

Yeah I know that if I don't like his art, then don't look at it, but I'm curious and who knows maybe he'll design better looking characters someday.

Fun Fact:
Tetsuya's work for FF5, FF6, and CT > Tetsuya's work nowadays.

Malag N Both XIII and IIIDS are looking pretty sweet there, but.... When the hell are we going to get VA and VIA screenshots?! thumbdown.gif It's very irritating. But. Maybe this is a good sign that we'll be getting info/screens on those two soon enough. T_T

Anyway, yes. Looking good, these shots.
Dark PaladinComment 5: 2006-06-29 02:17
Dark Paladin I find myself agreeing with NED. FF seems to have been moving more and more towards a typical Japanese anime styled game.

I am liking the looks of the FFIII, so far.

It worked with FF7. Square is probably trying to recreate its success by appealing to the anime-obsessed fanboys of today's youth...

Zeromus_X Huh?

Anyway, looking good. *taps foot for FFIII DS*

Agreed since yesterday using less polite terminology towards Nomura. I'll summarise by saying he's a Pete Doherty. But hey, a gun's a gun so long as there's more guns and there's maybe a little logic in place. But why can't a gun and a sword be used at the same time?

But this is not a launching board to criticise Nomura, no, there's everywhere else for that.

FFIII looks good enough I guess. Shame I don't have a DS nor am I willing to buy one for the single worthwhile game on it.
You Spoony Bard!Comment 9: 2006-06-29 16:01
You Spoony Bard! Considering FF3 is the only thing I can afford, I'm much more excited in that. The screens look really, really great, and I'm not afraid to say that that monk is the cutest thing i've ever seen.
KaneComment 10: 2006-06-29 17:06
Kane I'm not really all that excited to see FFXII. However, that said, I am looking forward to FFIII DS which is looking fantastic
No-NameComment 11: 2006-06-29 20:18
No-Name FFIII looks good as far as remakes go, I'll have to look into the story and character develipment on XIII before i say anything about the quality of game.
GalsicComment 12: 2006-06-29 20:22
Galsic FFIII does look pretty good, but really, its look is about the only draw for me. I'm usually not one for such old-school fare as FFIII (VI is my limit, really) and there's probably no amount of good gaming that'll ever get me to buy a hand-held system. For these reasons, I'd sooner get FFXIII (and for all we know, it might actually turn out pretty good tongue.gif ).

The_Pink_Nu1Comment 13: 2006-06-29 21:55
The_Pink_Nu1 If I could afford everything, I'd lap it all up. I beat the original Final Fantasy III (courtesy of Corlett's translation) and loved it. The remake looks like a perfect transition to 3D. As for XIII, well, it seems like Square has always been a step (or maybe two or three steps) in front of everyone when it comes to graphics, and their legacy continues after the merger. The game is gorgeous, and that chick's battle scene from the E3 trailer looked like something straight out of Advent Children. For Versus, I have to agree with what's been previously stated: the dude could use an upgrade on the manliness scale (he's still no Vaan though).

It's a pity that I use my kidney, otherwise I might sell it to buy a PS3. As it stands, I'm still going to buy the Wii. I just can't ignore a new Zelda, Mario, Smash Bros., AND Metroid. That's not counting future titles that will undoubtedly arise, like a new Mario Tennis (that'd be fun with the wii-mote) and new Mario Kart.
