Final Fantasy Tactics Characters

For pure detail of characters both on the NPC and player-character sides, you can't go wrong with Final Fantasy Tactics. This game is known for overloading you with important characters, whether they fight on your side or against you - or both - and there are so many with such depth that it is almost impossible to not be confused your first time through the game. Of course, you could just blame that confusion on spotty translation, but at least they've been working on that over time.

Note: obviously, there are lots of spoilers involved when discussing FFT characters, including some entire character profiles. You'll want your spoilers on if you want full detail on any character.

Ramza Beoulve

Ramza Beoulve

Biography

As the main character of Final Fantasy Tactics, Ramza finds himself at the center of the political and moral whirlwind that eventually absorbs all of his Ivalice. At the beginning of the story - though not the beginning of the game - Ramza is a mere knight in training in his home nation of Gallionne, learning the arts of war alongside his best friend Delita, and trying to find a way to make his way in his family's high house and father's esteem behind his half-brothers Zalbaag and Dycedarg. Ramza's retelling of his career as a soldier and transition to sellsword comprise the first chapter of the game. Ramza is told throughout the game how he is reminiscent of his father, Barbaneth, having inherited not only the family's martial prowess alongside his brothers, but also his quiet nobility and sense of equality despite the feudal system from which the house of Beoulve has benefited for many years. Ramza, befitting his status as the game begins, shares most of his skills with the Squire. However, the special skills that he can add to that basic list give him a leg up and mean that even as he trains into other jobs, his primary skills can easily be used to buff himself and his teammates well beyond the power of most enemies, given the time and space to do so.
