Yet Another Cameo in FF Tactics PSP

Final Fantasy Tactics
According to Famitsu, the main character from Final Fantasy Tactics A2 (the DS sequel to FF Tactics Advance) is going to make an appeareance in the PSP remake of Tactics, Final Fantasy Tactics: Shisho Sensou. This new character, Russo (or possibly Luso or something similar, depending on how it's localized in English), encounters and takes on Ramza while he's on the way to rescuing Alma; it isn't clear exactly where in the game this takes place.

This marks the second character from a recent FF game announced to have a supporting role in the FF Tactics remake, after Balthier from FF XII was announced as playable a few months ago. Is Square-Enix taking this cross-promotion a bit too far, or do we want even more? Depends on the person, I guess.

Shotgunnova Quite a strange brew they're cooking up. Cameo or (un)believable tie-in, we shall see...
KaneComment 2: 2007-04-09 17:57
Kane Can't wait to see it. I don't mind these additions. If it turns out poorly, I've always got the original.

This way, I at least get to see another Job Class.

Rarthyr Er, when does this game come out in europe? Also... are any of the cameos ff7 characters? I'd especially like to see vincent or cloud.

GamblingCat Interested to see what happens with this...makes me more anxious for the FF influx of games this year.

uhhh, Cloud was in the original.

Outside that, I like the additions, I've played the original hundreds of times, so anything new they add is welcome to me. It's just more new cool stuff I get to see when I get the game.

Russo is a character from the FF Tactics Advance sequel, as posted in the first post of the thread.
Dragon_FireComment 8: 2007-04-13 19:42
Dragon_Fire Enough is enough for the Cameos. I love the game to death and I love the idea of carrying it around with me wherever I go, but I mean, come on. I want to play the game, not a long list of product-placement in the form of random cameos.

I'll acknowledge that at least they're keeping it contained to characters related to Ivalice, it could've been worse considering they haven't completely replaced the characters with FF7's cast and called it Shinra Tactics or something along those lines.
SilverlanceComment 9: 2007-04-15 22:53
Silverlance Wait, back up a sec. FFTA2? Wut? Why wasn't I informed of this? ...Oh yeah, no interweb...

Fanservice is fanservice but there's a limit. One that Square usually crosses anyways. I'm taking bets on who'll be the next character to cross over to the FFT side; anyone got any money on Squall? What about Matoya? Personally I've got $25 riding on that ship you pilot from Einhander being a hidden boss. Probably one uncovered by some Al Bheds (they've been around all along, but FFT never had a chance to use them - honest!)

Boko, Cloud, Aeris, and Sephiroth? Admittedly they're in the original as well. wink.gif

A_True_Stigma Where was Sephiroth in the original?
SilverlanceComment 11: 2007-04-16 01:49
Silverlance Technically he wasn't there, but Cloud mentions something about looking for a man with a black cape and such after you get him. I think there may be another something about him after you find Cloud a second time, before he joins your party.
A_True_StigmaComment 12: 2007-04-16 03:13
A_True_Stigma Er... are you sure? I just looked through the game script (available on GameFAQs, can't direct link), and there's no mention of a man in a black cape or anything of the sort. Hell, the only references to Final Fantasy VII are:

Cloud: I don't care about names. What I need is a battlefield. Yeah...that's it...I'm a member of SOLDIER.

Cloud: What's this? My fingers are tingling... My eyes...they're burning... Stop...stop it.... phiros...

Cloud: Let's go, Ramza. I can't be here. Must go...to the Promised Land.

And the Aeris scene, of course...

One thing that seemed odd was "phiros," so I looked up some information on the scene and found that it was a mistranslation of the last half of Sephiroth's name.

Well, my memory is hazy, but I'm quite sure it was there.

Either way, it should be pretty obvious whom "phiros" refers to. wink.gif (Quick side-note, there's no "th" sound in the japanese alphabet - they usually represent it with a "su" hence the confusion over Aeris/Aerith and, in this case, Sephiroth/Sephiros.)
Zeromus_XComment 14: 2007-04-16 05:41
Zeromus_X Goodness gracious, it's just two characters. And they're both from other Ivalice Alliance games, so I don't really think this is a fanservice abuse or anything like that. I'm sure the game will still be even more awesome than it was before, now with two more playable characters.
